  1. Hey all, I have two books and one...thing that I can't identify.

First off we have this book that looks like it has storyboarding or scripts inside, but that's just my guess.

    [attachmentid=38190]

Then, this book, which has character sketches and color images in it's pages.

    [attachmentid=38191]

And then this monster, which is 13 inches by 13 inches. It folds out into three pages. The first page has a cutout, and the Valkyrie you see is actually from the second page. Has text and images on the inside, as well as two inserts. One insert is a color promo for DYRL (I think). The other is just black and white text.

    [attachmentid=38192][attachmentid=38193]

Any help would be much appreciated!

  2. How do we now those rocks were really rocks and not some sort of alien material which would respond solely to protoculture´s brain activity. I don´t see why would the PC use buttons to use their technology when nowadays humans can work with computers just using their voice.

If you're going to go that far, why not do the same for Macross 7? How do we know that consciousness or "spiritia" cannot affect physical reality in some way? Consciousness really does affect reality if you look at quantum physics. A conscious observer can collapse a probability wave, so who knows what else consciousness can do.

I know a lot of you people who complain about Macross 7 must like fantasy -- stories involving magic. I take it you just don't like it when someone gets fantasy in your Macross?

  3. Everyone's bought different parts of the dead companies, and multiple companies THINK they got the DYRL rights.

If I recall, the big issue is that 3 different companies think they bought CHE's license.

Ah. That does complicate things. Well, I guess I can always get the r2 if I'm desperate.

    Thanks for all the info!

  4. So, hypothetically, if that Macross VHS tape was still in production until, say, 2001, the same company could have relased it on DVD the next year, and HG couldn't have done much about it?

I wonder what the situation is with those other companies. I assume you mean Celebrity Home Entertainment and Best Film & Video Co. You'd think it'd be pretty cut and dry. Either they still hold the license, or it's expired. I don't see why there would be any confusion.

EDIT: Another question. Did Macross 7 Trash ever get released domestically?

  5. Continuing the converstation from the locked thread on a US DYRL release.

Plus and 2 got out on DVD before HG "realized" they had exclusive rights to the franchise.

DYRL's been off the market for a long time, and that gives HG a bit of leverage on a new window.

That doesn't make sense to me. Clash of the Bionoids was released way back in 91, true, but another version called Macross was released in 95. So it's just as recent as the original Macross Plus release. If Macross Plus can be released on DVD after a 95 VHS release, why not DRYL?

Macross TV's US release is actually licensed FROM HG, and the source video used was HG's copy(given the current situation, Big West probably wouldn't have been very accommodating).

Ah. This is another subject, but I'm curious: does that mean Animeigo remastered Harmony Gold's source video?

And as I said, not counting HG, there's several companies that think they own a piece of DYRL. So whoever releases is guaranteed legal hassle, even if HG ignores things. Plus and 2 have much "cleaner" licenses.

Again, if Clash was released in 91 and Macross in 95, wouldn't those same issues have applied to them? Are you talking about Japanese companies or US?

  6. Things change.

The original releasers of DYRL folded.

There's something like 4 companies that think they own the rights to a US release, and everyone's waiting for someone else to show their hand.

And HG probably WILL sue. If the defense lawyers are competent, it'll get thrown out fast, but they'll probably sue anyways.

If I recall, I think they tried to trademark DYRL's title recently too. That makes things uglier.

Macross 7 has HG and Japanese-side issues. The audio is licensed separately, and it's very expensive.

It seems to me that if things can get done with Macross TV and the other Macross shows, then DYRL should'nt be a problem. What makes DYRL so different?

  7. I'm dying to buy DYRL on DVD, but I don't want a bootleg. It just doesn't make sense that it hasn't been released as an R1 DVD.

DYRL came out as Clash of the Bionoids not too long after Robotech, but Harmony gold didn't sue anybody over it. Then, Macross 2 came out, and Harmony Gold didn't sue. Same with Macross Plus. And now we have the original Macross released on DVD, and Harmony Gold sells it on their site.

So why in the hell has nobody released DYRL on DVD? It does't seem like there' a legal issue here. I've heard people say they suspect an upcoming release of DYRL. Is there any reason to believe this?

And speaking of this, I want Macross 7 too.

  8. Since people are mentioning Macross Plus, I'd like to say how boring I thought it was. The characters were flatter than Basara. I hated Isamu and Guld, and I can barely remember the names of the dumb girls. I thought the flashbacks were retarded melodrama for melodrama's sake, too. Ooh, a mysterious past. Did Guld rape Myung? Who cares! When everything you know about a character is revealed through flashbacks and exposition, something's wrong.

And speaking of Macross 7, I've been listening to the music today, and holy god is it wonderful. To dismiss it as bubblegum pop music is to reveal ones woeful lack of taste. I've heard more good songs from Macross 7 alone than I've heard from American bands since Macross 7 was made. (I've never been a huge fan of American music)

  9. I loved Macross Seven, though I agree with a lot of the complaints. It could have been distilled down to 36 episodes for sure, maybe even 26. Some of the "filler" episodes were still fun, though. I absolutely loathe that "Power to the People" song -- but all the other songs rock. Also, Basara should have had some flaws and character development, but I loved Mylene and Gamlin.

As for the premise, I love it. If you like Macross but can't get over guitar-controlled Valkyries or mecha-tits, you're just a prude, in my book. Get over it and have some fun.

  10. I've been looking for a definitive Mospeada artbook forever. I don't think they exist. However, there are two books that have some Mospeada color art & line art. One is B-Club special # 9: Artmic Design Works, and the other is Entertainment Bible #16, Artmic 1.

Also, the REF Field Guide from the Robotech RPG has a bunch of original lineart.

Try this page for lots of Mospeada literature. Many of them are just articles in magazines though.

  11. I gots questions too.

I know I'm going to get into Patlabor, and these movies are on my list. I would just get the regular edition, but I hear there is line art in the LE books. I'm a sucker for line art. Are we talking a bunch of line art? Does the LE for Patlabor 2 have lineart as well? Please tell me about the line art included in each set, if you don't mind.

    Thanks!

  12. I love the pivoting rear landing gear but am I doing something wrong or is it supposed to be a biatch to get it deployed? It seems to be scraping hard against the gear doors when I prise it out.

And are the rudders supposed to be so floppy?

Yeah, the landing gear are a pain on mine too. And the rudders are a bit floppy. What's really loose on mine, though, is the right shoulder; it can't even hold the gun without falling. Still, it's perfect looking. I wish the VF-1s were so perfect.

  13. I want new 1/60 VF-1's because

    1) The original 1/60 was not perfect-transformation

    2) The 1/48 had hideously low-hanging shoulders and arms in fighter mode

    3) The 1/48 had a weird bulbous canopy

    4) The "swoop" of the 1/48 nose was exaggerated.

    5) A 1/60 VF-1 would be in scale with the new valks

  14. this is sort of off topic but does anyone else feel like the 1/48 is obsolete now?

Yes. Now they need to make a 1/60 perfect transformation VF-1 with all of the bad-assedness of the VF-0's (and no low-hanging-shoulders in fighter mode or bulbous canopy).

  15. I'd buy them only if they used CAD CAM, and redesigned the bulbous canopy and low hanging shoulders of the 1/48.

I'll never get bored of the VF-1, but I can't afford to be a completist or waste money on mediocre toy lines.

Dude, you are now my best friend forever.

I haven't bought a single 1/48. When they do what Ghostryder said, I'm all over it.

  16. The hatch that opens for the battroid head to move through snapped off mine.  I wasn't stressing the plastic, just opening the hatch normally during transformation and it snapped right off.

Shortly afterwards, the VF-1S' head also snapped off.  I definitely got a dud.  Even if my toy didn't break, these things are made of crap.  They make the Banpresto's plastic look golden.  To anyone who hasn't gotten one yet, save your money, these are not worth $20.  <_<

    425874[/snapback]

Wow, I'm looking at my 1/100's just trying to imagine how that could happen. I'm guessing the plastic broke, because it doesn't look like there's any glued pieces around the neck or back hatch. Can you tell us exactly which part broke? That would help me to not break mine.

  17. If you consider the engineering patents Victoria's Secret has pending on it's cutting edge bra technology, simply to support C and D cups, think of the suspension technology needed for the Meltrandi!  Who live an active, rigorous lifestyle.

    Now that's overtechnology!  ;)

    425827[/snapback]

    No, that's overtheshoulderboulderholdertechnology. :D

  18. I think the 1/100 ties the 1/48 in gerwalk. In the other modes, the 1/100 is a close second to the 1/48. I think the 1/48 nose-cone swoop is really overdone, personally -- I prefer the 1/100 nose. On the other hand, the 1/100 has the high backpack in fighter. But, then again, the 1/100 doesn't suffer from those ugly, low-hanging shoulders that the 1/48 has in fighter.

Jenius -- great pics, but I still have to complain that you aren't fully closing the gap between the 1/100's hip and central plate. There shouldn't be a gap like that. This pic that I stole from F360 shows what I mean:post-1886-1155539462_thumb.jpg

EDIT: Oh yeah, I think the 1/60 is hideous with it's cracked-up legs.

    And also:

HEY! WHEre DA CHUNKY MunKEEZ?!? LOL!!1
