I've got problem with them having post sequels and even sequels in the first place. Star Wars in its original form was a fairytale. As we know fairytales end with "and they lived happily ever after." They vanquished the evil wizard in the original trilogy. Which should have been brought peace to the kingdom, but they undid everything to make the sequels. It is what they'll do again to make the post sequels. Nothing will end. Every final victory against the dark side in a trilogy is basically meaningless because it will all be undone for the next trilogy.

I don`t care anymore, SW is long gone for me, when Disney purchased the franchise.  I will always have a place in my heart for the OT.

Same. Let this zombie franchise die. The last six trilogy movies sucked. And movies in general suck now. It's all CGI slop with no heart.

Wow, the first SDCC set I can skip since PotP! Not that I think it's bad, but I'm fine with my Siege Jetfire and uninterested in Void Rivals.

I want the Void Rivals, even though I know nothing about them. I just like retro o-ring figures.

There's no way I'm going to SDCC though. Not sure how normal people acquire these kind of things besides eBay.

So this is starting to get frustrating.  I'm starting to miss the older hinge pieces that didn't involve these clips, because it seems like every time I disassemble something using these clips, I find more of these pieces just cracked from stress over time.

That sucks. That white piece has been redesigned a few times, supposedly for better durability, but now I'm not so sure that worked out. The ones you have there look like the newest design. The old ones had thicker clips.

I don’t think any of may space pirates or castle sets from my childhood had any stickers included.

They didn't, with very few, specific exceptions, like torso stickers on some of the 1978 sets.

I hate stickers and think Lego should print everything. Cobi, Mega, Funwhole, etc print basically everything these days so there's no excuse. I mean, I've heard the excuses that Lego PR shills repeat but they fall apart under scrutiny.

Is your price a little too reasonable?  Someone's angling for a moonshot with their listing:

Asking prices on eBay should be ignored.

Those listings stay around forever because they never sell. Listings for reasonable prices sell quickly, so you never see them. As a result, people only see the high prices and assume they must be what those items are worth, when the opposite is true.

    Choose one. 😁

Actually maybe Galitzine is just Prince Adam but not He-Man.

I like Elba as Man At Arms though. If there's no homoerotic undertones between him and He-Man, the fans will be pissed.

  6. The all new Classified figs are looking way better. Monkeywrench is thankfully free of mall ninja plates, random seam lines, and textures that make no sense. Unlike Bludd and the Troopers which are older sculpts and have the typical visual noise. I don't even want to say what the Trooper's face masks look like...yikes.

  7. So during all this Renegade talk, I actually built mine, finally, this past weekend. And my opinion hasn't changed.

I do have new appreciation for how they fit the hexagonal flag with the Blacktron symbol onto the nose. The curved wedge slopes on each fit perfectly against the flag, with zero gap. I still think the area under the flag needed to be built out more.

But really, there were no surprises or "you can do that?" moments in the build, like there were with the Galaxy Explorer. The main thing I remember is SO MUCH YELLOW. Also, the landing gear are not easy to get out.

You have the obnoxious gap in front of it when mounted.

I forgot to thank you for mentioning this. I hate the gap too. It really shows, IMO, that the designer just didn't care.

The sensor array on the update looks more like a train buffer stop.

That's what it looks like! I knew it looked like something, but couldn't put my finger on it.

As for the alternate model, which is supposed to be an updated  Blacktron Alienator, it utterly fails to capture the original model. This interpretation of the Alienator does so even more egregiously, IMHO, than the Renegade such that I have absolutely no desire to waste my time building it. I still only own one copy of the new Renegade, but I harbor a tinge of interest in cobbling together my own update which skews closer to the original design. If they ever discount the set, I'll likely pick up a second copy. I just don't find it nearly as appealing as 10497, of which I own about five copies, two of which I built into the eponymous Galaxy Explorer and its smaller sister ship, the 487 (924) Space Cruiser, both on display next to the original 497 (928) Galaxy Explorer.

Are you me? Yeah, the Alienator alt is ugly. I too have 5 Galaxy Explorers, yet I have no desire to get another Renegade. Although I wouldn't mind more of the prints & windscreens.

If indeed Futuron is the next theme to be updated (Futuron is mentioned in the Renegade's instruction book in relation to the grey and trans-red energy cells), the most likely ship to be made will be the gorgeous Stardefender 200, one of my all-time favorite LEGO ship designs

The Stardefender 200 is also my favorite! And one of the few bigger sets I actually had when it came out. I just wonder how they'd do the windscreens. Would the main canopy be just two big X-Wing windscreens back to back in trans blue? Who knows what they'd try to do for the two smaller octagonal windscreens. Maybe they'd just use trans blue dishes.

I give it an "F" for fail.

I fully agree. I honestly thought it was a joke or a fake when I saw the first images leak. I thought an official Lego set couldn't possibly be so poorly designed. I would even go so far to say that the Renegade is the worst 18+ set ever made. And I wanted to like it; I bought five copies of the Galaxy Explorer and was ready to buy 5 Renegades!

I think that Lego knew it was a terrible set, which is why images didn't leak until hours before the official reveal, and why so many influencers were pushing the same ridiculous talking points ("It's supposed to an ugly ship -- the original was asymmetrical for god's sake" and "the yellow under the trans-yellow cockpit creates a glowing effect" -- I actually caught two people saying that and there's no way they thought that independently because it's not a real thing). I have to wonder if someone like Psiaki saw it after it was too late to change it and was like "uhh, guys?" and they made a damage control plan.

why it seems to attract the majority of the ire directed towards "Westernised" anime as opposed to things like "Battle of the Planets" or "Speed Racer"

    Does it though?

Or is it the justified contempt towards Harmony Gold for being a uniquely terrible company that prevents fans of its own franchise from getting good things, mixed with the mild bemusement of Macross aficionados towards those that still cling to the corpse of Robotech instead of enjoying the Macross cornucopia of content, that gets mistaken for some sort of unreasonable hatred of Robotech itself?

There's some real weird straw manning out there. Check out this recent article "In Defense of Carl Macek". It's a bunch of crying about people being big meanies to little ol' Carl, but I don't know who they're even talking about. Who in 2025 thinks about Carl Macek? The article comes off as super antagonistic towards anime fans ("You're telling me nerds are angry about something?") and basically invents this idea of unreasonably irate Robotech haters in order to make fun of them. Not saying those people don't exist, but not in numbers enough to matter.

    EDIT: Forgot link.

Let Robotech die. It served its purpose in the 80s introducing audiences outside of Japan to Macross, Mospeada, and Southern Cross, albeit in a hamhanded way, and in doing so, opened the gate to a slowly growing number of anime being introduced to the West. Its relevancy has long since expired, and with the bulk of the Macross series now available on Hulu through Disney plus, fans can watch legitimate Macross shows and movies as they're properly intended by the original creators, primarily Shoji Kawamori.

    Perfectly said!

I have absolutely no need for Robotech anymore. I can enjoy the original Macross, Mospeada, and (I guess) Southern Cross if I want to.

I did grow up with Robotech. It single-handedly got me into anime. I'm still fond of the Robotech theme song and BGM (the Minmay songs not so much). I'd even be down to buy the whole series on Blu Ray, had they not Yuned the release by replacing all the original sound effects, which is so jarring to hear that it removes any of the joy of watching what I grew up with.

...but retro-style 5POA action figures are not. 😒

This "deliberately poor" figure production and marketing trend is really getting out of hand.  Is there really a larger market for crap than for decently-sculpted figures with modern articulation? 🤨

As an 80's kid who graduated from Star Wars to GI Joe, I can't go back to 5POA. Maybe these are for people who never made that jump?

Then again I really only like 3.75 inch and don't like the "modern" 4 inch figures; they look like gangly messes to me. I'm fine with '85 Joe style retro articulation don't need "modern" additions, though swivel wrists (standard for most retro o-ring kickstarters) are probably okay.

I think for 5POA people and people like me, it's wanting what we had at the peak of our childhoods. 5POA people just peaked earlier. 😁

Yes, unfortunately. People only have a certain amount of money. They can either do a simple nostalgia style toy for cheap and have a chance at a profit, or produce a really cool toy that costs more to make and sell that sends them into bankruptcy. There’s only a handful of consumers that even remember V at this point and even fewer of those that would ever care that there’s a toy, so they produced something cheap and easy.

I wonder how much more it would be to actually produce something with more modern articulation though. A dollar extra per fig at most? These 5POA generally retail for an obscene $20 or so from what I've seen. Couldn't they just pass that extra buck along? I wouldn't pay any price for 5POA, but I'd pay an extra dollar for GI Joe level articulation.

In all seriousness, Mon Mothma's not written as a strong leader in any of the shows.  She's written to be a narrative speedbump.  In both Andor and Rebels, she's written to be the authority figure who's bitterly opposed to whatever action the protagonists need to take to win the day.  She's a plot device to jack up the tension by having the protagonists either go anyway against orders with the threat of having to face the music later or lose time trying to convince her so they make a last-second dramatic entry to save the day.  Ahsoka makes her explicitly a very weak political leader, who both spearheaded the disarmament that let the First Order rise to power in the first place and failed to address the issues in the Republic's system of governance that caused the Old Republic to fall apart years earlier.

Wow, as someone who hasn't seen any of the shows, that surprises me. She wanted to blow the crap out of the death star in ROTJ, and I remember her being treated well in the old books. Did Disney do her dirty?

  14. Ugh. That '91 Snake Eyes might be the one that tempts me to buy a Classified figure. It's not my favorite Snake Eyes design but it has a certain goofy charm. And it lacks the random visual noise (pointless seams and textures) that I dislike on other Classified figures -- if the render can be trusted.
