1. Agh! What the hell is that thing?! It's beautiful! Where did it come from? Where can I buy it?

ohhhhh you missed on that one? poor you...theyre all sold out now :D:):p

Meanie. Okay, thanks for confirming that it's a custom valk and not available for purchase.

2. I don't get all the Macross Purist hate. I welcome more affordable toys in a smaller scale.

I'll admit, in the pics on the Toynami website, the toys look worse. But that's probably because they're still using the old pictures they had waiting from before Toy Fair. I'm betting that the prototypes at Toy Fair were closer to the production model than whatever they took pictures of for the Toynami site.

The opaque canopies are really the weak point here.

3. The smallest Gakken Alpha and the Tread toy were both 1/72.  If you own one of them, you know just how bad they were.  Now imagine trying to do that toy even smaller.  OUCH!

370694

Damn, those were 1/72? You're crushing my dreams here....Anyway, I know they didn't put much heart into that Henshin Alpha -- it could have been done much better!

Actually they grabbed the molds from the old Imai molds whcih were 1/48 so what you have there is a 1/48 Legioss. The only part that's 1/55 is the pilot and the cyclone.

No kidding? Damn. I was just going off what the box says.

A 1/100 alpha is not possible.

No!!! I refuse to believe!

In any event, they can fudge the scale a bit if they need to make it bigger. As long as it's smaller than the VF-1 I'll be happy.

4. Edit II - you're probably talking from the tip of the nose to the tail of the fighter.  I'm sorry, I always meant to be talking about how tall the thing is.

370423

Yeah, I could have at least mentioned the words "fighter mode" since that is what I was talking about. Sorry 'bout that. I knew you were right about the height. I just wanted to point out that the Alpha/Legioss' biggest dimension is its length in fighter mode.

How big is that mini Henshin Robo Legioss that links up with the Lansay Tread? I'd guess it's around 1/100.

If that price is shown at NY TF, then it is the distributors price @ 3-5K pieces. Suggested Retail Price should be ~ $39.99 USD. A major retailer would probably try to push the price down to $29.99 - $34.99 or if they did a huge volume, $24.99 USD and that is only on promo.

Well, Figures.com says:

The first assortment, slated to hit retail this July for a SRP of 20-$25 each...

What does SRP mean? Is that retail?

5. AGH!!!!!!

FINALLY someone makes a quality, smaller sized valkyrie!!!!!!! I'm so freaking happy! Screw all the Toynami haters! This is my dream come true!

I wouldn't be too quick to proclaim this a 'quality' toy before any of us have had any actual hands-on experience with the final production version.

While It looks nice in the photos and I wish Toynami all the best, their track record is less than stellar.

I'm only assuming a level of quality equal to the MPC Alpha, which is at least as high as the 1/60 Yammies. I think it's safe to bet that these will be tighter and sturdier than the Banprestos.

EDIT: Oh, Jenius, my MPC Alpha is 9 inches long. That's 1/55 scale. So a 1/100 scale Alpha would be 4.95 inches long. Height would be slightly under 3.5 inches though! (not including antenna)

6. If they make enemy mechas and Mospeada mechas in this scale I'm gonna freaking wet myself.

D'oh! Another one. You can't make MOSPEADA stuff in 1/100 scale... it'd be Teenie (your Alpha would be between 3 and 4" tall), the Invid Scout would be like 2". The MPC Alpha is about 6.5" tall and it's 1/55 scale.

I don't have a problem with 2" Invid scouts. I bet they could do a 4" Alpha as well. Look at all the Transformer planes that are about that size -- it's doable. The Alpha transformation isn't all that complicated.

As for a 1" transforming Cyclone...that would be a little tough.

7. I would love to see a finished product top shot, and compare it to the Hase model. I think Yamato got really close in the proportions, but maybe the nosecone is a bit too short/stubby?

Doesn't look too stubby in this shot:

8. AGH!!!!!!

I could squeal like a little girl!

FINALLY someone makes a quality, smaller sized valkyrie!!!!!!! I'm so freaking happy! Screw all the Toynami haters! This is my dream come true!

I know, I can't stand HG either. But Toynami is getting better and better. Their MPC Alpha is great, and it's way better than their VF-1. Now, this VF-1 looks even better than the MPC! I've always wanted a cheap, smaller, yet detailed VF, and this is exactly that! My only complaint is the solid canopy, but maybe they'll fix that before release.

I'm buying ALL of these! Six great-looking valks for $120-150?! Hell yeah!

So there's a swing-bar. Big deal! It's actually the lowest-profile swing-bar I've ever seen on a VF. And at least it's shoulders don't hang down like a giant NUTSACK in fighter mode like the 1/48!

Six inches is the perfect size for a VF in my opinion. Fits right in your hand. (Here come the dirty jokes...) Yet it's still detailed. Did you see the fighter mode pics? That thing is freaking beautiful!

If they make enemy mechas and Mospeada mechas in this scale I'm gonna freaking wet myself.

9. I loved Mospeada, but I know what people mean when they say the soundtrack isn't the best. It's not the catchiest music.

The Macross BGM was okay but not exactly memorable, while the Minmay songs were very good. In Robotech, the situation was reversed -- the BGM was spectacular (it's not all synth as some would have you believe) and the Minmay songs were just bad.

10. Hey guys, my bro-in-law is in Japan for a while. He's staying in Senju which is about 15 minutes from Tokyo by subway. He spends too much time in his hotel, so I'm trying to get him to go out and see some cool places, but of course I don't know any. Do you guys have any recommendations? Basically, there are two categories of places I'm asking about.

1) Places any person in Japan should visit.

2) Places/stores an anime lover should visit.

I'm not totally selfless -- I'm hoping he can find me some good artbooks or toys or something. I'm going to send him a direct link to this thread. Any advice is much appreciated!

Later!

MODS: I posted this before and it mysteriously disappeared with no explaination. If this post is not allowed here, can you please let me know and hopefully move it to the correct forum?

11. Well, my Xbox Live suddenly started working fine. There were some ports I had to open for the Xbox's IP, and after that it still didn't seem to work, but after a bit it stopped kicking me off. Now everything's good.

Really though, it wasn't obvious or easy to find out that I had to open those ports. I had to call support and scour DLink's website for the info.

Thanks for the help, all (except isamu  )

12. I just got Xbox Live today. It sucked bad enough that I had to buy it for a whole year not even knowing if it would be worth it. It sucked bad enough that, even though I paid a whole year in advance, I was forced to give them my credit card information and address before I could play, and I didn't know I'd have to do this until after I bought the subscription.

But the after all that bullshit, the Xbox live service is ridiculously shitty. I spent the last 5 hours trying to play, and I got in a total of about 8 games, because the vast majority of my time was spent trying over and over to connect, or when I finally did connect getting disconnected before I could play. When I finally did get to play, I'd get disconnected before another game could start.

Now, I know my internet service works fine because I've never had a problem getting online. I know the cables are fine because I use the same one for my computer. I know the Xbox is fine because I use it to play system link games with no problem. But XBox live doesn't freaking work.

Am I the only one for whom Xbox live doesn't work?

13. none of it is awesome.

Gankutso and Last Exile were awesome.

340010

Last Exile looks like "Precious Moment" figurines turned into anime characters. With designs like that I'd be hard pressed to like it even if the story and characters were wonderful (which is not something I've seen in modern anime).

Gankutso is positively obscure. Did you spell it right? I can't find any sites about it.

14. I'm sick of all of you bashing on new anime just because it's new.

No, we hate new anime because it sucks.

Besides, for fart's sake, most old anime both suck and is drawn crappily.

339742

Here's my issue: There's lots of old anime that are awesome, but no new anime that are awesome. That's the difference. Sure, some old anime sucked. But some old anime was awesome too. Now, anime is either crap or barely passable -- none of it is awesome.
The impression I've gotten here is that lots of people won't give new stuff a chance either. Check the other "I hate new anime" thread.
I gave new anime a chance. I watched a ton of it, and was confused that I hated it all. Only after I watched an old anime and loved it did I realize the pattern. Didn't you read the first post in that thread?
15. I used to like dubs better because I didn't want to "read" anime, but now I like subs better because I don't want to hear annoying voice acting. Sure, the Japanese voice acting might be bad too, but I'll never know since I don't know any Japanese.
