Relations to Previous Series Characters....
mikeszekely replied to MisaForever's topic in Movies and TV Series
I guess I'm just thinking about it in a different way. You're, in your own words, taking it as nothing notable in the Macross universe occurring without a cast relation. I figure that stuff probably happens all the time in the Macross universe, and the stories being told focus on cast relations for the sake of continuity. Just about every character in Macross was either military or connected with someone who was, it'd make sense that they'd have relatives in the thick of things too. I've already granted you that Roy didn't need to be in Zero and Aegis didn't have to be a Focker, but you can't expect that EVERY relative of EVERY character lived simple mundane lives either. -

I'll grant you that Roy didn't need to be in Zero. I'll grant you that Max and Milia should have looked older in 7. But was it really unbelievable that Max climbed the ranks to captain of a New Macross-class ship? I don't think it makes the universe any smaller just because they decided to focus on a captain we knew instead of one of the many we didn't. As for Sheryl, is it impossible that Sara or Mao had descendants? Not to say that Sheryl is or isn't, but if they are, what's wrong with a plot relating to that bloodline? Would such a bloodline make the universe seem smaller, or would it be a reason to focus on Shery's character? To my way of thinking, yeah, characters like Aegis running around with tenuous connections at best are unnecessary and perhaps do cheapen the franchise. But stories dealing with descendants of other characters for a reason are just continuity. In any case, don't forget that in Macross, the gene pool was significantly reduced. If the numbering system for Zentradi in DYRL is even remotely canon, and the "Protoculture cloning techniques" used to rebuild the population after Space War 1 are anything like the Zentradi's, it's not hard to imaging a gene pool of fewer people with more blood relations. -
That's what I guessed you meant, and no, I wouldn't want H.A.W.X to turn out like BA, either. But I think that BA was deliberately more arcadey to make the act of shooting down other airplanes with naught but machine guns more accessible to a broader audience. With the Tom Clancy name on it, I figure H.A.W.X will be a little more hardcore.

That too, I but I think FFN might have been thinking VF-0D. Correct me if I'm wrong, though.

It's funny that you and I are skeptical for the opposite reasons. Recall that, while Taito developed it, Ubisoft published Over G, which managed to capture all the boring parts of realism. I suppose the good thing about the current generation of game consoles is that we can always wait for a demo in the XBL Marketplace/PlayStation Store.

That's a fine looking Silverbolt. Can't wait to see his bot mode, but so far, I'm way more interested in Silverbolt than Powerglide.

Relations to Previous Series Characters....

Ah, but the mark of good character writing is that, as events unfold, the character grows in response to them. Hikaru joined the military to impress Minmay, but ultimately came to believe there was value in his service. Shin started off as a "I don't need anyone" loner hotshot, but came to value his relationships. Gamlin hated Basara's "interference" during battles with the Varauta, but became one of Sound Force's biggest supporters. I'd like to think that even Isamu gained a little maturity during the events of Macross Plus. While I'm not necessarily disagreeing with assessment that Sheryl's behavior in the first episode leaves the viewer with an initially negative opinion of her, as one of the main characters I hardly expect her attitude to remain static over the course of the show. -
No Robocop = fail.

Ready at Dawn said they won't bring it to PS2, but EGM reported a rumor that it will eventually. Hey, Ratchet and Clank made the jump...

Maybe the VF-25A will be the standard model for the N.U.N forces. Since SMS is a private military group, the VF-25F could be specially-tuned for them. -

Recall also that, even before they transfused Mao with the Birdman's blood, there were already Protoculture anomalies in the islanders' blood. So I'm inclined to agree, while Aegis and Edgar may or may not be anything more than coincidence, Sheryl's relation to Sara or Mao (and by extension, the Mayans) is likely very deliberate. -

Parts arrived today, and just in the nick of time. No sooner had I installed the parts and finished resurrecting this Lenovo computer than the power supply died on the VAIO. -

While I've mostly been self-studying A+, I've been thinking about looking for a class that would prep me for Linux+. I've dabbled in Linux here and there, ever since I used my first Darwin Mac and entered the Terminal for the first time. Terminal is such a powerful tool, but for someone raised in DOS, I'm having trouble learning all the syntax. Actually, I recently discovered a Linux distro I really like, as opposed to tolerate. I'm dual-booting Xandros 4 now. Yeah, I know Xandros is a little commercial for a lot of the open source crowd, but that's exactly why I like it. It has a level of professional polish that openSUSE or Kubuntu lack. (Yeah, I don't really care for the GNOME desktop. KDE or Enlightment for me). -
Super Gobots Cy-Kill was pretty cool too. I especially liked the black and green repaint. But I think my all time favorite Gobot toy was Zod.

Hey, I'm sure it's as stupid as a lot of the stuff that I watched as a kid. But it's still a big part of my childhood, maybe more so than Transformers. I mean, I've always liked Transformers better, but my family was poor when I was a kid. I never had a lot of the first and second season Transformers because my parents couldn't afford them, but I had TONS of Gobots, including pretty much all the regular cast.

Now some politicians are going to use that as another argument for gun control. Man, why does some retard always have to go and ruin stuff for the rest of us? -
It kind of sucks that since Hasbro got the Gobots trademarks from Tonka, all they've done with it is slap the name on crappy toys for preschoolers. I want Gobots on DVD, dammit!

My initials are "MS," like "Macross Series."

I had a Kirin the other day that was bottled buy a guy who's brother's wife was best friends in high school with a girl who's brother went to cram school with Mikimoto. Or not, as I understand a joint venture with Anheuser-Busch means A-B brews Kirin in America. ...mmm, Ichiban...

Considering that the writing and animating is already done, anime on DVD has always been overpriced. It was one thing to charge $30 for a DVD with two or three episodes when everyone was charging $30 for a DVD, but when I can buy an entire season of an American TV show for that price, the value's just not there.

I liked the Hidden One Year War (never saw Apocalypse 0079). But it sounds like IGLOO 2 is going to be a shill for some non-mobile suit model kits. With nothing else to go on, I'll be cautiously optimistic, but this could go either way.

Well, if you do play it... whenever you play it, share your thoughts. I'm still curious. Despite the generally negative comments I'm hearing about the gameplay, the review scores are still fairly positive. It seems that successes in storytelling outweigh flaws in gameplay.

That's from the review in Game Informer. I'm guessing your idea of "a lot more action" and their's are a bit different.

I've heard Alt Prime isn't one of the better molds, but aside from Classics, Masterpiece, and the Voyager and Deluxe movie toys for the characters actually in the movie, all I've collected is Primes.

Well, I went with the Radeon. The deal breaker was that Newegg doesn't usually price match, but I wanted to order a Pioneer DVR-115DBK and a Kingston 2GB RAM kit from them anyway, so customer service told me to order what I wanted and then they credited my Discover card the price difference on the card. The GeForce might have been worth $20-$30 more, but not $40-$50, especially not when I could get everything from Newegg, get their awesome service and turnaround time, and only pay for shipping on one order.
