  1. Yeah, but with that in mind, why not just use a DivX encode and release them as AVI files? I mean, I know a lot of fansubbers like the MKV container so they can softsub? The DivX codec supports HD resolutions, and requires less work (drag files to disc, burn disc) than MKV (extract subs as SRT files, convert MKV to AVI, drag AVIs with corresponding SRTs to disc, burn disc).
  2. They had it in Zero because, as far as I know, we already have something like that on real-world fighters.
  3. I'm sticking with fansubs for what didn't make it to the USA and the R1 DVDs for what did. The Animeigo DVDs look about as good as SDF Macross ever will, and while it'd be nice to have better Mac + discs, Japanese Blu-rays are so outrageously priced that they almost make $30 for the new release Blu-rays at Target seem reasonable.
  4. Fair enough, but as someone who's watched both, if you had to pick one, which would it be? For now, I think I'm sticking with AiA, if only for consistency.
  5. Okay, 23 pages of posts since I last checked MW (busy weekend). All I really want to know is Gattai any good, or should I wait and see if another group's turn out any better?
  6. Hey, I like AVIs. Mostly because they play on the DVD player in the bedroom, while all these other containers floating around forced me to build a PC just to stick in my home theater. I think Az left you a link for the specific codec you need, and I know you're once-bitten-twice-shy on codec packs, but I still recommend CCCP, and VLC Media Player over WMP.
  7. Well, we're already on Season 2 of Animated, just a week after Season 1 ended. They're already adding new characters, and Hasbro is still too buys hawking movie repaints and Cybertron scounts repainted under the movie label (and yes, I did think I could use some of those scouts to make a Classics Hound and a Classics Seaspray, but that's besides the point). Seriously, I already want the toy for Animated Jazz, and outside of eBay I can't even get Prime yet.
  8. A friend of mine saw that Newegg was having a sale on some Antec cases. He bought me a P182!
  9. Nuts! Well failing that, how about Universal releases a Blu-ray Serenity with a better transfer and the extras from the newer DVD edition?
  10. But is it confirmed that Luca will be a VF-25 pilot? I haven't watched the broadcast version yet, so forgive me if I'm missing something, but if I'm not, is that just as much speculation as guessing it's an A type? For the record, though, I'm glad to see a green Valkyrie that isn't the puke-green Sound Force VF-17.
  11. Am I missing something? Why "Luca"?
  12. Firefly is good news. Be really nice if they include Serenity with it.
  13. Nothing better to do on the net?
  14. It's hard to say without specific dimensions, but maybe Battle 25 is still a New Macross-class vessel, if refit (like the difference between the TOS show Enterprise and movie Enterprise), but if Island 1 is much larger than previous City ships, it might be considered a new class.
  15. So I guess we go with AIA for broadcast episode one, then wait and see again with two.
  16. You guys are way behind. I went to sign it, and it told me I already did. I was, apparently, 600.
  17. That's actually one of the prime reasons I built a Home Theater PC. Too many fansubbers out their using the mkv file container. I don't think it's an HD thing; DivX supports HD video. Rather, I think fansubbers like that an mkv container can hold a subtitle file. AFAIK, DivX supports subtitle streams, but as a separate file. Regardless of the container format, is there a consensus on who does the best subbing for Macross Frontier? I noticed that AIA seems to be the only group with the broadcast version of episode 1 out, and I noticed that Seiyan fairly sucks. I guess a lot of people here are just anxious to see MF, and are grabbing the first available, but in the long run do most people here like AIA or Shinsen? Are there any other groups out there that are tackling Frontier?
  18. I wouldn't hold my breath. Since Apple uses pretty specific Intel processors, Mac OS expects pretty specific instruction sets. It's a little easier with 10.4 Tiger, but from what I've heard people have trouble getting laptops to run with Intel CPUs on boxes built specifically to be Hackintoshes, let alone an AMD box. Also, even when I was running a Hackintosh, I never got it to dual-boot properly. And from the looks of your current setup, although it looks a tad old, it also looks like you gamed a bit with it? As much as I love Mac OS, I'm not going to lie, gaming and Macs don't mix. What games even do come out for Mac often come out at full price long after their PC counterpart hit the bargain bin, and require Mac Pros, MacBook Pros, or high-end iMacs to run. You'd be better off, as Az suggested, checking out a Mac Mini. You can get a Certified Apple Refurbished Mac Mini for $430. At that size, it would likely fit on your desk with your existing set up, and a good KVM switch would allow you to use the same mouse, keyboard, and monitor (assuming you have a USB mouse and keyboard). I have an IOGear KVM switch that I really like. It supports audio too, and since my mouse and keyboard are a wireless desktop set with a single receiver, I connected my printer to the extra port. You switch by double-tapping the Scroll Lock key, and switching is instantaneous between my Vista box and my Xandros box.
  19. Screw the fanboys. I'm all for a hulking death-engine of a Johnny 5 that doesn't need a wheelchair ramp. (Not that bipedal reverse joints handle stairs any better... ED-209, anyone?). Maybe I'm some sorta anti-fanboy on this one, since I think the original Johnny 5 voice is too much of a pansy voice for such an intimidating military robot.
  20. Well, "Megatron Rising, Part II" aired today and finished off the first season. Oddly enough, season 2 begins next week.
  21. Well, everyone's entitled to their own opinions and feelings. I guess I just don't feel as strongly about it as you do. That said, if Sheryl is related to Sara and Mao, it's very likely that their unique bloodline could turn out to be a plot point, and if that's the case, it'd be good reason to include a relation. Hopefully that'll bother you less than random name dropping. Of course, there's still the possibility that it IS just random name dropping. That'd bug me.
  22. I guess I'm just thinking about it in a different way. You're, in your own words, taking it as nothing notable in the Macross universe occurring without a cast relation. I figure that stuff probably happens all the time in the Macross universe, and the stories being told focus on cast relations for the sake of continuity. Just about every character in Macross was either military or connected with someone who was, it'd make sense that they'd have relatives in the thick of things too. I've already granted you that Roy didn't need to be in Zero and Aegis didn't have to be a Focker, but you can't expect that EVERY relative of EVERY character lived simple mundane lives either.
  23. I'll grant you that Roy didn't need to be in Zero. I'll grant you that Max and Milia should have looked older in 7. But was it really unbelievable that Max climbed the ranks to captain of a New Macross-class ship? I don't think it makes the universe any smaller just because they decided to focus on a captain we knew instead of one of the many we didn't. As for Sheryl, is it impossible that Sara or Mao had descendants? Not to say that Sheryl is or isn't, but if they are, what's wrong with a plot relating to that bloodline? Would such a bloodline make the universe seem smaller, or would it be a reason to focus on Shery's character? To my way of thinking, yeah, characters like Aegis running around with tenuous connections at best are unnecessary and perhaps do cheapen the franchise. But stories dealing with descendants of other characters for a reason are just continuity. In any case, don't forget that in Macross, the gene pool was significantly reduced. If the numbering system for Zentradi in DYRL is even remotely canon, and the "Protoculture cloning techniques" used to rebuild the population after Space War 1 are anything like the Zentradi's, it's not hard to imaging a gene pool of fewer people with more blood relations.
  24. That's what I guessed you meant, and no, I wouldn't want H.A.W.X to turn out like BA, either. But I think that BA was deliberately more arcadey to make the act of shooting down other airplanes with naught but machine guns more accessible to a broader audience. With the Tom Clancy name on it, I figure H.A.W.X will be a little more hardcore.
  25. That too, I but I think FFN might have been thinking VF-0D. Correct me if I'm wrong, though.
