Transformers Super Thread 7

Man, I swear, everywhere's starting to get Animated toys but here. Hasbro should just lift the street date that apparently only Western PA follows. Too bad my buddy doesn't live in Cleveland anymore. I bet there's tons of Animated toys on the shelves at the Wal-Marts out there. -
Transporter 3 - coming this fall

It's not that I didn't care for it because of Statham. He was fine in it. All the actors did a good job, really. I just don't think it was my kind of movie. -

How big's the case you put it in? You might have an easier time with a hardware solution, if you have a free 5.25" bay. You pretty much rattled off any software solutions I could think of. Are you overclocking? If you're running it stock, the E8400 runs pretty cool (I've heard reports that an overclocked E8400 runs cooler at 3.5GHz than a 65mn Core 2 Duo running stock at 3.0GHz). Even if you overclock it (I'll get around to it, since I want to wring out that last .3 in Vista's CPU assessment), people still fan cool it (although they replace the stock cooler) and maintain stability at 4.0GHz. -

I don't think the first Ninja Gaiden had an easy mode. I know they added Ninja Dog Mode to Black, although I have no idea if it carried over to Sigma. -

Am I the only one that's glad to hear that Ninja Gaiden II is easier? I know some hardcore gamers loved how punishing the first one was, but the older I get the less punishment I enjoy. I want a game to be challenging, sure, but the older and busier I get, the less time I have for games that feel more like work than fun. -

Yeah, see, Snatch was another movie I didn't care for. As for the whole Transporter vs. Transporter 2 thing, yeah, I'm hearing what you guys are saying, and yeah, I'm all for more butt-kicking and less outlandish car stunts. But I still liked Transporter 2 just fine. The first one was better, but I wouldn't say that the second one sucked. Wait... wha...? Where'd you hear this? I mean, wasn't he dating Sophie Monk for awhile? And that girl that's with Billy Zane now? -

See, while I whole-heartedly agree that it was highly unrealistic, I thought that's part of the movie's charm. Hot women, fast cars, big explosions, and Jason Statham beating the leaving bejeezus out of people... a guy's movie. If I wanted intricate plots, detailed character development, believable situations, and deep acting, I probably wouldn't be watching a Jason Statham movie. -

Watching Jason Statham get pissed and beat the crap out of people is good fun. That's why Crank sucked... too much talking on the cell while driving, not enough beating the crap out of people. -

The SV-51 and VF-25 might transform differently, and I agree that they don't resemble each other without really looking for similar details in fighter mode, but I think they have similar Battroids. They both have slim limbs, both their knees jut out from the legs at the top, they both have small chunks of material hanging off their hips. They both have a mostly horizontal upper torso that angles slightly downward from back to front, a mostly vertical mid-torso that angles front to back, and mostly diagonal hips that angle from back to front, which gives the Battroids a sort of lightning bolt-shaped torso, viewed from the side. The VF-14 was a heavier fighter, but one that retains the VF designation. The VA-14 is the heavy fighter-bomber. And the VF-5000 is indeed inspired by Mirage, but again it has the VF designation, and 5000 is still an even number. What's more, although their designs are unlikely to exist outside Kawamori's head, there was a VF-6 that was designed as a low-cost VF for colony worlds and a VF-16, which I believe was described as a delta-winged fighter. Add that with the VF-4 and the VF-22 (sure, it came from the YF-21, but if you want to count that as an odd you'd have the note that the VF-25 came from the YF-24 and count it as an even), and I think the result is that, while the majority of the animated VFs have been odds, I'd say it's more of a coincidence than a homage to Mikoyan-Gurevich. -

VF-14? VF-5000? I know they didn't get a lot of screen time, but they're both post-Plus, even-numbered VFs. -

You mean aside from G1. I don't think Ironhide and Ratchet transformed the same way twice. Speaking of Beast Wars, the homages continue with a throwaway mention of the Vok. Love it. -

Regardless of who did and didn't fly black VFs, purple's been more the official bad guy color lately. The Enemy Valkyrie from the VF-X, all the Varauta fighters (FZ-109, AZ-130, FBz-99), and Nora's SV-51 (which had a lot more screen time than the cannon fodder or Ivanov's SV-51's) were all purple. -

Speaking of the SV-51... the Battroid looks fairly similar to VF-25 (and by extension, the VF-27). March, or someone else more familiar with the subject than I, how similar are their transformations? -

While it pleases me to see that Macross Frontier is hanging in at a respectable 4th, and Gundam 00 is probably on the list because it's still fresh in people's minds, I'm a tad dismayed to see Gundam SEED and Gundam SEED Destiny on the list still, as they were probably some of the worst Gundam material Bandai has managed to crap out yet. And I'm really shocked to see Eva still on the list (at number five no less). I know it was trendy for the time, but people need to let it die already. -

Keith That looks like the set I have. You might also have a higher tolerance for bad subs than I do. I noticed that the first time I watched some of my bootlegs, I was just so happy to have the series that I didn't notice how bad the subs were. They seemed a lot worse when I rewatched them later. Gui I've honestly never even heard of them. But I noticed that Nyoro~n started fansubbing first Gundam. They're only up to episode 10, but it seems like a current project for them.- 3815 replies

Which one do you have? Mine's by "Anime Cartoon," and it comes in a black box with the Gundam, Amuro, Char, and Sayla on the cover. 5 discs. I can't even find anyone selling it anymore. Funny subs are great, some of the time. But sometimes I wish I had a first Gundam set with good subs. The movies are great, but the pacing's better in the TV series. Oh, and here's a treat for you guys.- 3815 replies

Look, I'm not going to get into how real or fantastic Star Trek's technology is in general. But with regards to Trek's warp theory, I was under the impression that the warp drive creates a field that allows a ship to accelerate out of normal space and into subspace. While this sounds like it ignores physics, an article I read in Popular Science basically concluded that creating a field around a ship and accelerating it into another dimension is possible with quantum physics as it's understood by many theories. And what's subspace but another dimension? Of course, you do apparently have to break the laws of physics to decelerate without destroying the ship. And that still leaves you in the other dimension, mind you. I guess they're still working on how you'd get back into normal space. -

I have a bootleg of the original show, and the subs aren't dodgy, they're incomprehensible. A lot time ago I even posted screenshots of my favorite moments, which included "Fire the main gun tampon!", "You... poo..." and "Boobs are set on Gaodao!"- 3815 replies

I don't get all the Victory love-fest either. It's by no means a bad show, but it's fairly forgettable. Forgettable characters, forgettable conflicts, forgettable mecha. Universal Century Gundam really begins with first Gundam and ends with Char's Counterattack. They're the one's about the conflicts with Zeon. They're the ones that deal with Char and Amuro. F-91 and Victory may officially be set in the same timeline, but in both cases it boils down to Earth vs. some new Space group. At the end of the day, Victory's probably worth a watch, as it's still better than just about everything Gundam-wise that came after (with the notable exception of Turn A). Just don't be expecting Zeta-level goodness.- 3815 replies

It's cool that they're adding a ton more suits (Zaku III!), but I hope they, at minimum, have the campaign play out until 0093 (with F-91 as a bonus unlockable). It was kind of lame unlocking all those ZZ suits with no ZZ story in Chronicle, and it really sucked that by the time you unlocked the Nu Gundam you were pretty much done with the game. It doesn't have to be Quebeley, but I hope they still have a mobile suit that so broken that it's a breeze to go back through and get all the S-ranks.

Me either. But I figure screwing up one or two learning the ropes is still cheaper than buying a Botcon or a Henkei. -

I didn't get to shoot other jets because my brother was too lame and never wanted to play, but I had both the XT-7 and the Phantom Stryker, Captain Power, Hawk, Tank, and all three of the tapes with the video specific for the jets. I swear Soaron was my main reason of watching the show. -
