Yeah, you do only the main story missions and easily hit 50 before the end.Ironically, when I quit playing back before F2P, the opposite was true. I did all the story missions, the patrols, and the exploration missions, but I didn't want to do the PVP or group PVE stuff. It was fairly easy to get to Commander, but you had to start repeating the exploration missions or do the PVP/PVE stuff if you wanted to hit Captain.

I watched the whole first season online. At first, I was a little turned off by the Bayformer-esque designs and the fact that Ratchet and Bulkhead were basically their Animated selves with less personality. But the series gets better as it progresses, and I find I even like the humans in it. My biggest reason for wanting the Blu-ray set is the video I watched online was pretty lousy. It looked muddy, and things were at times indistinct. Early reviews suggest that the Blu-ray quality is excellent.- 17157 replies

Yeah, I played the demo seriously until I got to the timer, then surfed the net on my Mac while it run down. Thing is, the game's not too bad. The PC controls aren't so great, and I'm not a fan of the visual style cribbed entirely from WoW, but it seemed quite fun otherwise. I might pick up the Xbox or PS3 version later. EDIT: Finally got to a point where I can change armor. The Kingdoms set is there, but my Blood Dragon Armor that I wore the entire game in ME2 is most definitely NOT.

I bought my wife's laptop at the Microsoft Store online, of all places. But mine actually came from Best Buy. One key benefit... no-interest financing. That was a problem with my laptop. I wound up ordering a Targus XL backpack. Ironically, I could probably fit two or three laptops into it with room for accessories... but I really like the bag. It's been useful. -
Playing Wipeout 2048 has got me in the mood for electronic music. Been listening to Elite Force, mostly.

Went to Target this morning to look for the Transformers Prime Season 1 Blu-ray set. No dice. They can stock stupid crap like The Tooth Fairy 2 on Blu-ray, but not Transformers, I guess. They did have the DVD version though, if you need that. I wound up ordring it on Amazon. I'm using to paying more for Blu-rays than DVDs, but double? Yeesh.

I have an Asus laptop... can't recall the model off the top of my head, but it was a Core 2 Duo, 4GB RAM, 320GB 7200RPM hard drive, and a GeForce GTX 260M. I love the keyboard... keys feel great, and I loved the backlighting so much that I bought a Logitech Wireless Illuminated keyboard for my desktop. Gaming performance was good enough. My only complaints were that it's pretty chunky for a 15.6" 1360x768 screen. I've had no real issues with it, but I don't use it a ton. I mostly take it to friend's houses or when I go on trips, because my gaming desktop (i7, 12GB RAM, 2 1TB hard drives, GeForce GTX 465) is a lot more powerful. Come to think of it, I bought my wife an Asus laptop, too. It's nothing too fancy... she mostly does Excel spreadsheets and surfs the net. I think it's a Pentium Dual Core, 4GB, 500GB, and integrated graphics of some sort, but I was pleased to see it had the same keyboard as mine, right down to the backlighting, in a simple but pleasing case with a nice textured lid. Like I said, nothing too fancy, but nicer than the HPs Staples and Best Buy sell at around the same price. Again, no issues with it. For that matter, I have an Asus motherboard in my desktop. Only minor issue was that I had a little trouble getting it to recognize the SATA 3.0 drive I wanted to use as the primary boot drive. The Asus DVD drive I put in it crapped out in just under a year, though. Replaced it with a Samsung. -
I bought it for PC (retail, not digital), but I'm waiting to install it until I play the Kingdoms of Amalur demo... just to get the items that I probably won't use if the Blood Dragon Armor imports from my ME2 save.

I was thinking I might buy one of each of the main show characters, so I'm not really interested in Wheeljack or Cliffjumper. I might want Bumblebee... but I'm tempted to wait until he's on clearance at Target. It almost seems inevitable. It's a little early, I suppose, to call him a shelfwarmer, but it's pretty bad when I walk into Target and find four peghooks with four of five Bumblebees each, and no other Deluxes (they did have a handful of whatever they're calling Legends, three Voyager Primes, and a solitary Voyager Megatron). Was at Walmart later. I'm not sure if they blew through their allotment, or if they just haven't got that much in yet. They had spaces for Voyagers, but none in stock. They had a few peg hooks for Deluxes, but they were all empty save one with a pair of, you guessed it, Bumblebees.

Well yeah, I've been saying that TRU is charging ridiculous prices for their TFs, but that the RID Voyagers were only $20 at Target. The First Edition Optimus looks like a great toy... but I dunno about $63. Imperfect though he is, I'm happy with my $20 RID Prime.

All Things Video Games Thread: II

I guess at this point it's kind of moot for me. I sold my PSP-3000 and all of my non-import UMDs when I bought my Vita. Since then, I've bought Maverick Hunter X and Final Fantasy IV Complete Collection from the PlayStation Store, but for the most part if I have a hankering to play a PSP game I'll resort to piracy and a PSPgo until something better comes along. -

Ok, let's try this again. I'll try to break down the pros and cons of the Vita. + The screen. Sure, you read that it's 5". A part of you understand that it's bigger than the original PSP screen, and even bigger than your smartphone's screen. But knowing it isn't the same as experiencing it, and when you see this huge, vibrant, colorful screen light up for the first time, you know you're in for something special. + The new interface. I was a little concerned when I saw the new interface. After all, the XMB was brilliant in it's simplicity. I was more concerned when I turned on the Vita and found that the buttons didn't do anything. But as you poke around the touch screen, you realize how brilliantly intuitive the the new interface is. In fact, the only thing I wish is that I could group icons into folders. + The physical controls. They're not as mushy as on the original PSP, and the d-pad is is one piece instead of four. They feel crisp and responsive. Plus the Vita has two actual analog sticks. No more nubs. No more funky compromises on games that really needed two sticks. + Graphics. No, they're not really up to PS3 quality (or, PlayStation fanboy hype aside, Xbox 360). But they're close enough. Between the graphics power and the dual analog sticks, the Vita brings the console gaming experience to a handheld in a way that the original PSP failed to. + Cross-Play. It's not a huge feature yet, but it's got a ton of potential. Basically, it's a way to link your Vita experience and your PS3 experience. For some games, it means allowing Vita users to play online with PS3 users of the same game. Or, it could mean buying DLC for a PS3 version of a game, and getting the same DLC for the Vita version for free. In some cases, it might even mean buying a game once and playing it on both platforms. I've heard that Wipeout HD is coming to the Vita, for example, and if you already bought it for the PS3 you'll be able to download it for free. + Apps. The Twitter app on the Vita isn't just the best Twitter app I've seen on a game console, it's the best Twitter app I've used on any platform. There's Google Maps, Foursquare, Flickr, and Netflix. What I'd really like to see is an email app. + Speakers. They're not the crappy tinny speakers so many portable devices seem to have. They could maybe use some more bass, but they still deliver a clean, full sound. Combined with the big screen, it's easy to forget you're playing a handheld and get immersed in the game. = Size. The Vita is pretty big. It's like the screen... you see pictures of it with the original PSP, and you know it's bigger, but the first time you hold it in person you realize how big it is. Fact: it's the biggest handheld I've owned since the Game Gear. But I guess that's the price you pay for a huge, gorgeous screen. And, even though it's dimensions are large, it's not particularly heavy (about the same as the original PSP), and the weight is balanced so it feels comfortable in your hands. Basically, the Vita is portable, but it's not really pocketable. = Price. The hardware is very impressive, and rationally it's probably worth $250. On the other hand, it's a $250 portable that requires more purchases to be useful. It might be a little hard to justify. = Not a lot of games. It's still a new system, though, so it's not actually a minus, just an observation. People with more will power than I might want to do like I planned to and wait for a larger library and/or a price drop. - Touchscreen only controls in games. Don't force me to put another fingerprint on the screen when tapping the X button my finger is already hovering over will do. - Battery life. I set up my PSN account, downloaded a few demos, played a few races in Wipeout, and it was begging to be charged. I could see charging the Vita more than once a day if you get really into a game on your off day. - Proprietary memory. For one, I'm kind of mad I need any memory. Games are on cartridges, but I still need a memory card to save? I could see DLC or downloaded games, but just to save on a cartridge? Bull. And Sony couldn't be bothered to include even a small amount? I mean, even the 3DS comes with an SD card. And that's the real kicker, Vita memory cards cost at least double what a microSD card would run you. - Price of games. The Vita may be an impressive handheld, but it's still a handheld. And if I have to chose between paying $50 for a handheld game, or $50-$60 for a console game, I'm going to pick the one that plays on my 70" LED and 1000w surround sound system. Sony said that they were going to offer discounts if you bought the digital versions, which might have helped except that the digital versions are no more than $5 less, and when you think of how much space they're going to take on your ridiculously overpriced proprietary memory card, you're better off buying the cartridge. - No UMD exchange. Why does only Japan get this? If I want to play a PSP game I already own on my Vita, I have to buy it again at full price. Which might not be such a hard pill to swallow except that a lot of my favorite PSP games aren't available for the Vita, and the prices Sony charges for the digital version is often more expensive than going out to the store and buying a UMD. Hell, it's cheaper to buy the God of War Origins collection for the PS3 than it is to buy Chains of Olympus and Ghost of Sparta digitally for the PSP. ? What am I supposed to do with the rear touch panel? Or the "accessory slot"? -

Virtualization, for two. If you run an OS inside another OS, you want to make sure both OSes have enough RAM to run smoothly. -
Thanks for reaffirming my point.

*pulls out hair* This is my third time attempting to reply. Twice now, I've written detailed posts describing my thoughts on the Vita, and twice now I've accidentally hit some key or combination of keys with my fat fingers that caused my browser to go back a page and lose everything I just wrote. Maybe I'll try again tomorrow. For now, suffice to say that I'm cautiously optimistic about the Vita. -

Not really. I'd say 4-6 is probably standard. Microsoft might say 2GB for 64-bit installs of Windows 7, but I'd say 4 is the new minimum. And truth be told, of the 8 computers I've got, the one with the second highest performance has just 3GB (it's only using a 32-bit Windows 7 install). Of course, it really depends a lot on what you want to do with it. I built my current gaming rig (which is my highest-performing computer) with 12GB, but in practice I've found that I rarely have more than 5GB in use at any given time. -

Really depends on how much you want to spend. You could buy a Radeon 6870 and play most of the games you want just fine, but if you're planning on getting a beefier card than that, then I agree with pfunk, get yourself a new mobo (I'm thinking Sandy Bridge), a shiny new Core i5 or i7 CPU, and at least 8GB of DDR3 RAM. -

Even though I swore I wasn't going to buy a Vita until a price drop and a game I really wanted came out, I just bought a wi-fi Vita, an 8GB memory card, and Wipeout 2048. -

I like car shopping. In some ways, looking at daily drivers the average joe might buy is more fun to me than looking at super cars I'm unlikely to afford in this lifetime. That said, what's up with the new Optima? I'm not saying they're bad, but I was unaware of anything particularly stand-out about them. Then again, maybe it's just Korea's time. Hyundai has certainly gone from making cars you buy because they're affordable to making cars that are actually desireable. EDIT: Looked at it on Kia's site. To each his own, but I'm not really a fan of the front end. Reminds of the Sportage... and I wasn't really digging it then, either. Rest of the car's not bad. -
I'm not a huge Rush fan, but I'm willing to concede that they don't suck and probably don't belong on the list. Never cared for the Sex Pistols, but sure, I'll even say that their placement on the list is debatable. But Pearl Jam's placement on the list is totally justified. They've always sucked, I remember thinking that they sucked even at the time when they were popular. That Seattle grunge rock sound they helped make popular sucked. The fact that it got popular set music back 10 years, and is one of the reasons the '90s sucked so bad musically. Alternatively, I like Foo Fighters way better than Nirvana. Because hair metal is awesome?
-
Well, to each his own, I guess. I'm not even really disagreeing, per se. I don't think the truck panels on his back or that big a deal... it's a lot less mess than most of the Primes I have, including Classics, WFC Generations, first movie Voyager, and DotM deluxe. Even RotF Leader Prime, which is a pretty awesome toy, has a bit of junk on his back. I don't really mind his proportions, I can paint the missing red on his chest myself, and the transluscent blue doesn't bother me as much as I thought it would. I agree totally about his weapons (but the again, I've never cared for mech-tech). Do I wish I could have got my hands on a First Edition Prime? Sure. But I guess what I'm driving at is that he is the only readily available TF Prime Optimus Prime, and even with his flaws I'm happy with him for $20. More than that, maybe not.

Well, I've only been saying that since the '90s. Seriously, it's like I stopped liking music from '92-'98. That said, while I agree with 19 of the bands on the list, I kinda like Foreigner. Not enough to buy their albums, or listen to them on an iPod, but enough that I wouldn't change the station if they came on the radio.
