Saw it this afternoon. Everyone else has covered the highs and lows, so I'll just say I agree that it was much better than the first.

When you watch the trailer, you don't think they look that bad, but you can tell there's just something off about their faces. When you see the link Old_Nash posted, though, you get exactly what's wrong with them and can no longer unsee how horrible they really are.

No. I don't watch any reviews of Transformers, and strongly prefer written reviews. A written review gives me the pros, cons, and a couple of photos from a couple of angles. It gives me a good idea if the toy is worthwhile or not, and takes just a minute or two to get through. A video review is usually a half an hour of some guy fiddling with the thing.- 9275 replies

I don't know. But that picture doesn't change my opinion that the art style is the love child of Prime and Animated. Depends on which one you mean... The first movie game wasn't. I kind of liked the second movie game, but I appear to be a minority. I own and have beaten the third movie game. I don't remember it too well, but what I do remember is that it played like War for Cybertron, but wasn't nearly as good, was kind of short, and Soundwave's level was a little frustrating. War for Cybertron and Fall of Cybertron were both great. They played a little like Gears of War. The first one let you pick from three different characters for each level, and aside from their starting weapons and special abilities it didn't really matter which you picked. FoC actually dictated which character you played as, but each one had different abilities that changed the way you played. For example, playing as Optimus Prime was basic running and gunning, but Cliffjumper's mission was more stealthy. Transformers Prime which I played on the 3DS, was fair. Pretty good story, all the voice actors from the show, but mediocre gameplay.- 17161 replies

AFAIK, that's the same model High Moon used for G1 Prime in Fall of Cybertron. And the whole arms turning into weapons thing was present in both of the previous Cybertron games, too.Edit: yeah, I think Bayverse Prime does it, too.- 17161 replies

Not sure if it's different in Europe or other parts of the world, but he's really a non-entity here. Shout Factory's DVD release a year or two back is the first time I'm aware of Victory being legitimately available in the US. Anyhows... I got the 20% off coupon, and TRU let me take another 15% off for opening a TRU credit card, so I picked up YotH Prime for around $88. If you're familiar with either the Hasbro Masterpiece Prime or the Takara MP-10, you know what you're dealing with here. So, very quickly: Pros -It's MP-10. MP-10 is still the single best Transformers toy ever designed. I love my Soundwave and my Grimlock (and granted, I don't have any of the Autobot cars), but MP-10 is still the best. He's the right size, looks good as a truck and fantastic as a bot, has great poseability, and a Transformation that is satisfyingly complex without being frustrating. -The non-chrome colors. He's a really good-looking toy. While Hasbro MP Prime was a bright red, YotH Prime is a deep, dark red, like a maroon. Similarly, his hands, head, and lower legs are a very dark blue. Not the purplish-blue of the Takara, either, but a very deep, navy blue. His midsection, which I was hoping was a dark blue ala Pepsi Prime, is actually more of a black, and his thighs, rather than a cartoon silver-gray, are a darker gunmetal gray. Top that off with clear red on his crotch instead of yellow, and a clear blue energon axe instead of bright orange, and he's quite striking -Tighter joints. At least vs. the Hasbro MP Prime. All of his joints are nice and tight, which is a big improvement over Hasbro MP Prime's weak ankles and hips. - Comes with the trailer. That's a step up from MP-10B, right? Cons -QC. Despite having tighter joints, QC actually seems a little down. His legs don't want to stay together in truck mode. Actually, he seems to want to pop apart from truck mode at the slightest touch. The headlights kept popping open, his arms want to pop out, and nothing I could do would keep the bumper pegged together. Plus, one of his smokestacks was jammed. I had to go around the edge with an X-acto knife before I could get it to slide up and down. -Black side-view mirrors. It just looks cheap and bad, like the molded exhaust running along the bottom of a Hot Wheels car. -Gold chrome. It looks tacky, just the way it would look tacky on a real truck. That being said, it's really not as bad in person as it looks in some pics. It's light, almost a brass color. Depending on the lighting, you might not even realize it's gold if you didn't already know. -Same price, less extras. Actually, Hasbro MP Prime was supposed to be $99.99, but TRU jacked it up to $130 when they realized how crazy the demand was. YotH Prime is $129.99 from the start. But, despite having the energon axe, the gun, the Matrix, and the trailer, they stopped short of including Spike (which I really don't care about ) and Roller (which bums me out). My suggestion... if you already have some version of MP-10, you probably don't need YotH Prime. The colors are kind of cool, but there's no precedent for them, and YotH Prime doesn't offer anything new or extra. If you don't have an MP-10 (or like me, you wanted a second, slightly different one), print out your coupon and go get him! MP-10, even if slightly unusual colors, is worth it.- 17161 replies

I think Sony's betting on that. That would explain why they're advertising the crap out of Destiny plus the PS4's social features when the game doesn't come out for a good six months.- 6894 replies

Yeah... people said the same about Animated, before it actually debuted. That being said... I agree. And, while I loved watching Animated, I wasn't a big fan of the toyline. So, I'll definitely watch the show. I may even like the show. But I probably won't buy any of the toys.- 17161 replies

New Transformers cartoon to debut next year. Seems it'll be set in the same continuity/timeline as Transformers Prime. Not sure what to make of the art... it's like TF Prime and TF Animated had a love child.- 17161 replies

I didn't have a coupon, so I couldn't talk my wife into letting me have on. All i can tell you is that the gold, while still sort of out-of-sorts on him, isn't as garish in person as it looks on some pictures. It's really light, almost a brass. And, MP-10 is easily my favorite MP. He looks great in both modes, has a transformation that hits that sweet spot between complex and frustrating, and he's got some great articulation.- 17161 replies

Not to mention that the people with computers so crappy that they can't handle compressed audio are the people who are most likely to have an under-sized hard drive in the first place. If you're going to invest on improvements to run the game, might as well start with one that isn't so underpowered that it can't decode the compressed audio in the first place.- 6894 replies

Ah, get one. Titanfall seems like the kind of game you like, and Microsoft is running plenty of deals now (like free Forza). Plus, while pundits love pointing out how PS4 games are running at higher resolutions, the difference isn't really noticeable when you're playing. If you don't have a next-gen console yet, the Xbox One does have better exclusives (so far).- 6894 replies

Apparently some group called Microblaze is working on a Voyager-sized Fall of Cybertron Onslaught. He'll be able to be used as a replacement for the Hasbro one and connect with the other Hasbro Generations Combaticons. What's more, he'll be sold with extra add-ons for the combined Bruticus mode. The result is less Hasbro's oddly-proportioned mess and closer to the Bruticus in the game.- 9275 replies

Hmm... looks like they're going for realistic Beetle instead of SD, which means the rear window on his chest is a faux window, and the back of the car is actually on his back.- 17161 replies

Out of the box, they both have updates. I don't remember them being as bad as the Wii U's though. And once they're set up, they can download updates while sleeping. Once the update is downloaded, the PS4 has so far been quicker at applying it.- 6894 replies

The Unlicensed Third Party Transformers Thread

I did. Relative bot-mode height of Deluxe and Voyager CHUGS Why not? If it's not going to bother me that Bumblebee's hatchback mode should be much, much smaller to be in scale with Starscream's F-15 mode, why should I have any concern at all where a robot lion fits in? Because they were clearly better scaled? This is the one area that probably does matter to me. Some bots should just be bigger than others. That being said, CHUG Galvatron is not even half the height of CHUG Powerglide, so clearly I can't be too picky. On the contrary. All that's left is exactly what I specified. If I wanted Predaking to be displayed with my CHUGs, I'd want ones with individual components with sizes that fall within the typical sizes of CHUGs figures. Ideally, that would be a Voyager-sized Razorclaw with Deluxe-sized limbs. Then again, it's not like I have the money for a Predaking right now...- 9275 replies

*sigh* Yeah, I get it. Transformers and scale are never the best of friends. That said, with no regard whatsoever for the size of the original G1 Predacons compared to other G1 toys, the size of an actual lion compared to an actual sports car/fighter plane/cab over engine truck/handgun, or the size of the Predacons' animation models in reference to other characters animation models, consider the average bot-mode sizes of the CHUGs Deluxes and Voyagers from Wave 1 of Classics through the current Generations releases of Armada Starscream, Springer, etc for approximate upper and lower limits for CHUG height. Now, which of the three not-Predakings being released by third parties appears to have individual Predacons that best fit within that CHUG range?- 9275 replies

What'd you end up doing to fix it? For what it's worth, I'm not saying that laptops are a waste of money and that desktops are better. I'm saying that my laptop was a waste of money and that my desktop is better. In any case, if I had the money to buy a gaming laptop today and hadn't bought that MSI last year, I'd probably spring for a Maingear Pulse 17. Slightly thinner than a Razer Blade Pro, 6 pounds, same CPU and GPU as the MSI you were looking at (and the same GPU as the one in the Razer Blade), 16GB of RAM, 256MB SSD plus a 1TB regular hard drive, plus they throw in a T-shirt and an Asus external DVD drive (you can pay more to upgrade to Blu-ray, if you want). Right now they're throwing in Splinter Cell: Black List and Assassin's Creed IV, too. $2099.
