I really wish I had a local hobby store. Anyway, let me know what you think of that Hyaku Shiki. I kind of want one, but I'm kind of afraid that the HGUC kit is too dated.

I have Menasor, sans the little Legends chestplate dude, and Superion both completed with the new limb guys. I really want Slingshot and Wildrider, though. I want to do Defensor, and my wife already said she'd buy Titan Devastator for me for whatever holiday is closest. I don't think the individual limbs on Devy are looking too hot, but I think the combined mode looks good enough and big enough to be cool. What I really want, though, is an all-but-certain Bruticus, as he's my favorite combiner and the Fall of Cybertron version isn't cutting it. Beyond that, I'd love for them to do a Predaking, but I can live without Abominus, Computron, or Piranacon. That said, I'm having fun with the Combiner Wars guys so far, so I wouldn't rule out picking them up if they are released.- 17162 replies

What eriku said. Hasbro decided to make him (under the name Quickslinger) and Wildrider (under the name Brake-Neck) exclusive to the online shops with a May 22nd street date (although I heard some of the Asian shops were selling them, but the shipping was kind of outrageous). So right now I'm just biding my time, waiting to order those two and occasionally checking brick-and-mortar stores for any Protectobots. eriku, you wouldn't happen to have a BBTS link for Wildrider/Brake-Neck, would you?- 17162 replies

Does anyone here have a OnePlus One? It turns out that they stopped requiring invites right around the time I need a new phone without either renewing my contract or doing one of those "get a new phone and make payments on it FOREVER!" plans my carrier is pushing these days. The OnePlus One looks like an insanely good deal ($349 for an Android phone with a 5.5" screen, 3GB of RAM, and 64GB of storage seems more than reasonable, even if the Snapdragon CPU isn't the latest and greatest anymore). I'm kind of worried, though... small company, customized Android from a company that isn't getting alone with OnePlus anymore... -

I'll say the same thing I said elsewhere. I love that Iga's making a new Metroidvania, I love that Michiru Yamane is doing the music, I love that IntiCreates is working on it (Mega Man Zero is one of my all-time favorites). I love the artwork that's been shown so far. Seriously, the only thing I don't love is the protagonist's loligoth design.- 6894 replies

I don't know about the big arcade stick you were looking at, but the NES30 Pro "Crissaegrim" pad, if you click on it and then on "Specs," "360 Xinput" is listed under "Mode."

I'm kinda digging the NES-style one with the lights and analog sticks. Bluetooth and Xinput? Sounds perfect for playing emulators on my Surface Pro.

Yeah, the smallest mobile suits (F91, Victory, Crossbone, and oddly enough, the Gundams from Wing) come up to the waist of the tallest average-sized (that is, not stuff like Psyco Gundam or Quin Mantha) mobile suits (Sinanju, Unicorn in Destroy Mode, Nu Gundam). Part of the reason I like having all my mobile suits in the same scale is to appreciate the size differences, and part of the reason I went with 1/144 is because you can fit more of them in a case. And they're cheaper. Which brings me to my other main reason... I've said it before, and I'll say it again, but the RG line is simply the most bang-for-your-buck line of Gundam plamo kits around. Yes, they're smaller than MG kits, but when fully-stickered I think the RGs actually tend to look better, and going by Amazon's pricing cost almost half as much.

Apparently the third wave of Combiner Wars figures (at least the Deluxes and Legends, no Voyagers) are turning up at Targets in California. If they make their way to my area as quickly as Wave 1 and 2 did from their first sightings, I should start seeing them in stores around Halloween.- 17162 replies

C'mon, Hikuro. We kid because we love. And because we're slightly jealous of your ability to crank out a completed kit with enough skill that one might assume it took days in less time than it takes some of us to open the box, check the runners, and look at the booklet. Yeah... he's a lot better at that than I am.

So much of what makes the book so good is Watney's narration. I have no idea how they're going to capture that in a film, but judging from the teaser their answer might be "CGI the heck out of it!" I don't have high hopes for the movie.
-
The trailer didn't really do jack for me. It's kind of like the studio just finished watching Interstellar and thought Mars looks too boringso they barfed CGI all over the place. That said, the novel was fantastic, and everyone here should go read it.

Avengers: Age of Ultron, in theaters May 1, 2015

The cave has nothing to do with any of the movies, although I vaguely recall something like it in the comics. What it is, in this case, is setup for Thor 3.- 398 replies

Not a gosh darn thing. Nothing to work on until either the RG G3 ships, or unless I treat myself to something on my Amazon wishlist. But I was upgrading some of my computer gear, so I don't really have a lot of money for gunpla right now... In any case, good luck with the new job, buddy!

Avengers: Age of Ultron, in theaters May 1, 2015

Or, in this case, is it a fight between creative interests and creative interests? Without debating whether or not Marvel is "just as much a bureaucratic monsters as the other studios" (I'm sure it is), it is a fact that Marvel's got Kevin Feige in charge of the overall MCU, and that Feige has plotted out the course of the MCU to something like 2022. I see a lot of the studio interference that's been hurting Sony with Spider-Man or the Warner Bros. with DC as execs making stupid decisions they're not really informed enough to make, like, "Hey, Marvel built this big cinematic universe with their heroes, so we can make a jillion dollars too if we copy that even though we don't have a plan beyond 'copy Avengers'." And, with respect to Whedon, I don't see that as the case here. For whatever reason, Feige and co. were uncomfortable with Hawkeye's secret family (frankly, although the family and the farmhouse were in the Ultimate Avengers, it seemed way too out of the blue in the film for me, too), although they ultimately relented. Likewise, maybe Whedon didn't care for the cave, but Feige and co. obviously felt it was important to their over-arcing plan. If Whedon's not privy to that plan, it's understandable that he might be more dismissive of the scene.- 398 replies

I haven't loved a Castlevania game since Order of Ecclesia (I liked, but not loved, Lords of Shadow as a game, but hated the changes to the Castlevania mythos, kind of thought Mirror of Fate was mediocre, and didn't even bother with LoS 2). As long as it's a Metroidvania game about a character who can collect new gear and level up as he/she explores a large map full of monsters in an attempt to defeat some kind of bigger monster, I'm in.- 6894 replies

Avengers: Age of Ultron, in theaters May 1, 2015
mikeszekely replied to azrael's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Just came back from seeing it. I liked it,for the most part. Good acting, good dialog, all that. My gripe, though, is that I feel like too much of this movie was spent laying the groundwork for Civil War and Infinity War instead of just focusing on Ultron's story. Well, that and the fact that Ultron looked more like Lockdown from the last Transformers movie than Ultron. I wish he'd had the eyes and the gaping, glowing mouth on more than just the drones. Best part for me wasn't even in the movie. At one point when Thor flies off on his own, this kid, maybe 3 or 4, says, "Well there he goes again!" in a tone that implied he'd had enough of Thor flying off.- 398 replies

Yeah... my wife's not usually an enabler. She actually hates it when I buy most Transformers. I think I sold her on the idea that this Devastator will probably go up in value. Anyway... I complained to Amazon when I ordered a model kit that was marked as having Prime shipping available when I bought it but they couldn't actually fulfill the order on time, so they gave me a $5 credit. And I saw that they had Motormaster in stock. Since I've yet to see any of the CW Voyagers in an actual store, he's sold out at Hasbro Toy Shop, TRU online, and even BBTS, and the $5 credit offsets Amazon's slightly higher price of $26.99, I went ahead and ordered him. Now I should be caught up until the Protectobots start hitting shelves.- 17162 replies

I actually never got around the Vrabe. I really do like the design and I did mean to... but (and this might sound weird) I kind of prefer models of mobile suits, not models of fictional models based on mobile suits. I kind of got sidetracked when I started focusing on Unicorn models... instead of Vrabe, I did Unicorn (U), Unicorn (D), Sinanju, and Delta Plus. I may still pick of the Vrabe. I need another detolf, which means making the hour drive to IKEA, which means I'll be going to a place that actually sells gunpla, even if the selection is smallish. The last time I was there they had a lot of Build Fighters kits, so I might see a Vrabe there. Otherwise, I'll be looking at ordering more Unicorn kits. Probably the Dreissen or the Silver Bullet. Anyway... I hope you have fun with it, David. In some ways, they're easier and less intimidating than the RGs. There are fewer miniscule parts (really, fewer parts all around), and they fit together more simply and logically. On the downside, though, depending on how anal you are about accuracy, you're going to find that HGs can be more work in the long run, because they almost always require at least some paint.

The ankle armor on the RG looks a little thicker, and the gap between the part of the 0-Raiser that's attached to 00's back and the part that just hangs down seems different (but that could be the way its positioned in the photo I uploaded). Both are minimal stylistic differences that could arise from translating a dynamic animated model to a "real" robot at 1/144 scale, though. Put another way, yeah, it looks fine to me.

Yeah, and from what I remember of the anime, there is a beam saber hilt-sized peg on the wing that does plug into the bottom-most port on the GN drives, but not all the ports, nor are the GN drives covered. And the connector itself isn't exactly visible, as it's lost under the GN drives and sandwiched between the drives and the gray part of the 0 Raiser's wings that has the guns. I hate to say it, because Hikuro's pretty knowledgeable when it comes to Gundam and Gunpla, but I think VF-Zer0S might be right. The 00 Raiser Condenser Type has particle tanks instead of GN drives, and the tanks are rectangular and the same color as the part of the 0 Raiser's wing that it connects to.
