XII, pass. Now if they could give us remakes of V and VI with the same level of extra polish on the sprites that the FFIV Complete Collection had on the PSP, I'm sold.- 6894 replies

Yep. Because IIRC doing Linux first will cause Windows to replace GRUB/LILO/whatever bootloader with the Windows bootloader, which doesn't like Linux. So, a day in and Windows 10 seems ok (at least, no worse than Windows 8.1) on my Surface Pro 3. The handwriting keyboard is definitely improved. On bug/annoyance, though, is that it keeps prompting me to re-enter my PIN/password on the lock screen, even though I set it to not require a password when I've been away. Having issues with a laptop, though. Not really Windows 10 issues, though. See, when I got the laptop it had Windows 8, pre 8.1. I hated it, and Steam wasn't playing nice, so I tossed in an mSATA SSD, flipped the BIOS mode to legacy, and installed Windows 7 with a VLK I have. I figured the laptop, which I don't use a lot, would be a good place to mess around with Windows 10, so I'd again dumped Windows 7 and put the developer preview on it. Now I want to upgrade it to the "official" Windows 10, but the preview doesn't update. I tried using the Windows 10 Media Creation thing, but giving it the Windows 8 key from the UEFI doesn't work. And of course, I can only find the first two recovery media discs I'd made before I wiped Windows 8 to install 10... -

Would that be the Voyager and Leader class? Of the Voyagers, Optimus Prime and Motormaster were kind of so-so. Silverbolt and Cyclonus have some interesting transformation bits to make a torso, but are hampered in bot mode by having a large chunk of their alt mode on their back, and in alt mode they're basically planes with folded-up robots underneath. Hot Spot is a solid all-around figure. Great bot mode, good torso mode, adequate alt-mode. My only gripe with him is that his knees are really weak. If they fix that when they remold him as Onslaught, he could be the best in the bunch. As for the Leaders, I don't have Thundercracker, no do I have the Jetfire he was remolded from, so I can't really say. As for the Megatrons, the G1 version is alright. Solid tank, and the turret rotates. His legs are a little skinny, his face is just... meh, and his fusion cannon sits at a weird spot on his arm. But he's definitely the best Megatron in the CHUG line. As for the Armada version, same alt-mode, different head and different paint. While the head is good, and the paint evocative of Armada Megatron, his body is still more G1 than Armada, so I'd rate it as a pass. But Ultra Magnus is the high point of the CW line and a must-buy. His transformation is simple but interesting. In fact, it sort of similar to the G1 version in how his body forms the car carrier and how the cab sits behind his chest and between his shoulders, but he does in in such a way that the cab doesn't have to become an Optimus Prime that wears the carrier, and even better, he's not a brick. He's got limited ankle tilt and great range in his hips, knees, shoulders, and elbows. He even has swivels on the points where his missile launchers attach to his shoulders move outward so they don't interfere with his arm movement.- 17162 replies

I let Windows 10 install on my Surface Pro 3 (from Windows 8.1) but I'm hesitant to do so on my main desktop PC. Windows 10 is better than 8, but Windows 7 is so good and so familiar. There does seem to be a small learning curve for 10. On the other hand, the gamer in me is curious about Xbox One streaming and DirectX 12. -
Dang... I wasn't going to get the Revive version of the RX-78 since I have RG Rx-78-2, RX-72-3, and RX-78/CA, but now I'm tempted to get one and paint it in rollout colors.

More Dr. Wu Not-Mixmaster. Looks hot... like the toy we really wanted CW Mixmaster to be, but with one flaw- why's he got Soundwave's face? Also, David, did you hear that Diabolus Rex is making an SD Trypticon to go with their SD Metroplex?- 9275 replies

Mixmaster, with his overly-large drum, simple transformation, and the odd decision to make his alt-mode a front-discharge mixer with the rear serving as Devastator's foot, is probably the weakest of the of the Combiner Wars Constructicons. So I'll be keeping an eye on this. Dr. Wu replacement CW Mixmaster.- 9275 replies

Yep. The new/used 360 should come with a power cable (the brick is different on the slims), and I can't remember if the slims have the memory card slots that the original did. But any other accessories you have should still work fine.- 6894 replies

Definitely the 250. The original 360s were too small at 20GB, and 4 is less than a quarter of that. The good thing, though, is that the slims (either) are more reliable, and safer to buy a used one. I see Gamestop's go used 250GB S and Es for around $159. In fact, if you haven't played any of the games, there's two bundles for $159.99 on Gamestop's website. Both include a used 250GB S, GTA 4, Skyrim, Call of Duty: World at War, and Halo Anniversary. Then the difference between them is that one packs in Fallout 3, the other packs in Need For Speed: The Run.- 6894 replies

Yes-ish. First, it's only a beta at the moment, and won't go live for everyone until the fall. Second, it's emulated. Think like the Xbox 360's ability to play original Xbox games. Not all games will work, and not every game that works will do so perfectly. No word on what games will or will not be compatible yet, either. So if you're banking on playing Forza 4, you may be better off getting a new 360. That depends on whether or not you want a brand new one, or a used one. All you have for new ones is the new slim, in either a 4GB model for around $180 or a 250GB model packed with some games for $250. If you're ok with used, I think you're ok with either the new slim or the old slim, just not the original body-style. None of them. When they switched to the slim, they switched their semi-proprietary HDD design. Pretty sure they all do. I'm not sure what you mean. Your current console is pretty much toast. You can try to repair it, but AFAIK you'd merely be delaying the inevitable. Is the Xbox 360 in general a lost cause? Yes, in the sense that there aren't a lot of new games for it that aren't also being released on the Xbox One. Yes in the sense that it's in serious need of a price drop (to say, $99 for the 4GB console, $150 for the 250GB). But if you have a library of games for it that you want to play, then why not get another? Mine's still hooked up, although I can't say as I've played anything but Rock Band on it for maybe two years. Achievements, no. Digital games you've bought, no (assuming you're buying a 360). Just sign in to the new console with your Xbox Live/Microsoft ID. Last time I had to replace a console I think it even replaced the hardware ID in the license so I can still play my downloaded stuff offline. Your game saves are probably toast, though, unless you can track down an Xbox 360 Transfer Cable. I don't remember then being particularly common when I needed one, and that was two years before the Xbox One launched. If you can find one, though, it's very easy to use. You just take the hard drive from the dead console, snap it onto the appropriate connector, plug the other end into the working 360's USB port, and a popup should walk you through it.- 6894 replies

Yeah, you won't get too much "it's crap, buy KO" here at MW. What you will get is some "Hasbro sucks, you should buy Takara" with with occasional "I bought a Legends/Deluxe figure and can't believe how crappy it is compared to an MP even though I could buy 10 of them for an MP price!" Which, you know, is cool if you're into collecting the Takara versions of MP toys (which you might as well be, since the US releases end up TRU exclusives that TRU marked up so much that the Takara version is actually cheaper to import). Sadly, not too many people interested in discussing Generations anymore.- 17162 replies

Munn's costume isn't bad, but I'm not buying her as Psylocke. Magneto's costume is too busy. As for Apocalypse, if someone didn't tell me that it was him I'd have never guessed. He looks like a Star Trek alien of the week wearing a costume swiped from Stargate.

00 isn't up to the level of a lot of pre-SEED Gundam, but I didn't think it was that bad. And I actually liked the first two arcs of AGE; it's a shame the third arc was so bad. But G-Reco... G-Reco's the first Gundam to really give SEED a run for its money.- 3815 replies

Gundam Show Thread - MSG thru GQuuuuuuX
mikeszekely replied to Black Valkyrie's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
It'd have to. I mean, there's a lot I do dig about the design, like the head and feet, but the waist joint is all kinds of awful, and to a lesser degree, so are the shoulder joints. Thought so. I suggested as much back when all you could really see was the round shoulders and the skirt armor. I would watch the crap out of Gundam: Friends! Instead of all the usual Gundam angst between mobile suit battles, the show could be about how the six main characters just hang out and have wacky times between mobile suit battles. We'll always have the F90 manga. And Gundam AGE ... But like I said, it can't really be worse than G-Reco... can it? I'm curious about the timeline. Probably another self-contained AU series, but 300 years after a generic cataclysm could fit it before CE or between UC and RC.- 3815 replies

Hmm. I still say the mechanical designs look like Gundam 00. I'll definitely watch it; I don't imagine it could be worse than G-Reco. As for the mobile suits... is Krays the official romanization? Reads more like Graze. Anyway, it's kind of simple, maybe a tad boring. As for Barbatos, I don't hate it (I actually really dig the head), but that waist is a glaring weak point.- 3815 replies

I'm honestly not sure, either. I think some of the impetus behind them is a drive to divorce Steam and PC gaming from Windows, but if Valve can't get developers on board because they keep using Windows-specific stuff like DirectX, then I don't think it's enough. On some level, I think it's supposed to be for the PC-curious console gamer. A $450 box is console-ish in price, right? It hooks up to the TV, comes on fast with a non-Windows console-ish OS, and plays with a controller. But honestly, I think there are too many caveats for that to work... I mean, it only plays games that work on SteamOS. That includes some high-profile games like Borderlands, Civ V, DOTA 2, Pillars of Eternity, etc, but it's honestly mostly indie games at the moment. No Arkham, no Far Cry, no Fallout, no Deus Ex, etc. Which is probably for the best, since I'm not sure how well a lot of PC games will run on an i3 and an unnamed Nvidia GPU. I don't think they're for serious PC gamers, either. They'll probably get a better experience by using the much cheaper Steam Link and streaming from a more powerful gaming rig they already own. I don't honestly know. I think the Steam Link is cheap enough that it might do ok for PC gamers who want to play their game on a TV without stuffing their tower in their entertainment center. But as it stands, yeah, the Steam Machines seem to limited to win over console gamers, and too underpowered for PC gamers.- 6894 replies
