I plan on buying the Blu-ray when it comes out... mostly because I bought the box set, and it has a slot for for it.

Well, then I guess you're not going to get that wish. As for me, I'll probably get the Galvatron, because it does look pretty good for a Hasbro job, and that Blaster looks pretty boss, too. None of the other announced toys really appeal to me, though. I mean, if I saw them in a store I might pick up some of Headmasters, but if I don't it won't bother me.- 17162 replies

I'm actually doing a stay-at-home-dad thing. I adore my daughter, so I don't mind. She's just at a stage where I can't do much except feed her, talk to her, and watch Netflix. She seems to like Futurama. No problem! Just be warned, it's kind of short. I finished the story mode in about 5 hours. Of course, there's a ton of challenge missions I can still do, and I used Optimus almost exclusively so I could probably replay the game as one of the other Autobots.- 6894 replies

Anyone else playing Transformers: Devastation? I posted my initial thoughts in the videogame thread, but suffice to say it's everything 5-year-old me could have wanted.- 17162 replies

Did anyone else pick up Transformers: Devastation? I was a little worried about how good it'd be, since it was announced out of the blue just a few months before release. I was afraid that, at best, it wouldn't be as good as Fall of Cybertron and at worst it might be a cheap tie-in on par with most of the movie games. I'm pleased to say that it's actually quite good. The gameplay is very reminiscent of another Platinum title, Bayonetta, and it works surprisingly well for Transformers. The story might not be as dark as the Cybertron games, the graphics not as shiny, and the gameplay not as deep, but that doesn't actually detract from the game. In fact, it's got the sort of plot that could have come from the G1 cartoon (in fact, I think they did something similar at least once or twice), with a cartoonish cel-shaded look and character models that are clearly G1 (the old cartoon, mind you, not even the newer IDW stuff). The only changes that have been made were Bumblebee and Megatron's alt modes. Bee is a generic hatchback that looks like the Classics toy, and Megatron is a tank, although their bot modes are still G1. Toss in the G1 voices (or sound-alikes) and it really feels like you're playing an episode of the G1 cartoon. It's seriously the game my 5-year-old self has been waiting 30 years for. If you're a Transformers fan, you really ought to give it a go.- 6894 replies

What are you using them all on? My receiver has 5 inputs that I've divvied up between a PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, and a Wii U/Mac mini (they're on a cheap switch). At least that's how it's supposed to be; since my daughter was born I can really only play videogames in the short window between the time my wife and daughter go to bed and I myself go to bed, so I moved the Xbox One into my bedroom. I suppose if got cable or something that'd be a 7th, but if I were that desperate I could either relegate something I don't really use often (like the Wii U or the Xbox 360) to one of the inputs directly on the TV. And yeah, I picked up Forza 6, but I can't honestly say I've been playing it. I've done a few races, and I like what I've played, but it's hard to find gaming time with a baby! I especially found the rain to be quite impressive. It's the first racing game I've played where driving through a puddle actually felt like a puddle and not a patch of ice.- 6894 replies

Interesting. It looks like the insides of Shockwave's lower legs form the back of the gun, and the backpack is the barrel. I'd like to see a pic from behind before I pass judgement, but I like what I see. Not loving Hot Rod, though. Maybe he'll be a little simpler than Rodimus, but looks like the same idea. Hood flips up, arms for the sides, the top of the car is folded up as a backpack, hips and legs get jammed up underneath. The obvious difference, the chest, is way worse. Curious to see what improvements were actually made.- 17162 replies

Pretty much this. I haven't heard any rumblings, and there's always the chance that they skip desktops again (the GTX 800 series were mobile only). I wouldn't count any anything until late summer next year for their flagship, with the x70 and x60 around the holidays. I mean, if you can wait, awesome, but I don't think you're shooting yourself in the foot if you bite the bullet on a GTX 900-series card now. -

Well, I haven't played it personally, no. But, from everything I've heard, it's the best city-building game on the market, and Paradox has a stellar reputation. I'd say pull the trigger, but wait for a sale.- 6894 replies

On the model? I don't think so. But, for all of my models (which are all 1/144, either HG or RG) I take all the extra parts (extra manipulators, weapons, leftover polycaps, etc) and stick them in ziploc sandwich bags. I print a label with the kit name as short as possible (like "RG Zeta" or "HG V2") and stick it on the bag, then I put all the bags in a box.

Cash grab, plain and simple. I mean, Wing EW is Wing Zero EW with different wings, a shield, and a color scheme more like the TV version, so Bandai could shove it out without a lot of new tooling. The real question isn't why Wing EW is getting the RG treatment, it's why isn't it a P-Bandai (while the blue Z'Gok I really wanted is)?

Bah, that's all they have is Street Fighter, remakes, and rehashes. Keiji Inafune (Mega Man) gone. Shinji Mikami (Resident Evil) gone. Hideki Kamiya (Devil May Cry) gone. Atsushi Inaba (Okami, Viewtiful Joe) gone. The last new Mega Man game was five years ago (unless you count mobile crapware like Rockman Xover), the most recent compilation has less games and extras than a PS2 game from 11 years ago, and good stuff people actually wanted like Legends 3 was canned. The only reason Capcom isn't as dead to me as Konami is that Capcom is at least pretending they still care about consoles (and PC) while shoveling out mobile crapware.- 6894 replies

As I said before, though, the remake avoided being a poor imitation by tackling different issues than the original. Yeah, the first one was more about the excesses of our consumer and corporate culture. Murphy was treated as parts because even as a human he was never more than property to OCP. Robocop had to regain his humanity, which was taken from him before Boddicker's gang shot him to pieces. The remake, I think, deals with more modern fears about technology. The earlier shot, with the guy playing guitar with a cybernetic hand, helps reinforce the initial notion that his mechanical parts are a prosthesis, that he's still Alex Murphy. The struggles he has, and the way he's manipulated to bring more desirable results to OmniCorp taps into the notion that technology is changing us, that we're becoming dependent on it, and that the companies who provide our technology can use it to manipulate our behavior. In that light, it's not about regaining humanity but maintaining it.

Dunno about you guys, but it looks like retailers in my area are skipping the third wave of Combiner Wars Deluxes (most of the stores in my area either never bothered with the Voyagers, or never bothered with more than the first wave of Voyagers). After what seems like Wave 1 being out forever and Wave 2 barely making it to shelves, I was sort of surprised to find multiples of all four Wave 4 Deluxes. Fortunately for me, I'd bought all the Protectobots online. I wanted Prowl from this line, since I didn't really like the previous CHUG mold (even if it is more accurate), since Streetwise one of my favorite Combiner Wars molds, and since I like the idea of Prowl and Streetwise on patrol together with the same alt mode. I didn't really plan on getting any of the other three, since Breakdown is one of the worse molds and Offroad and Dragstrip repainted with new heads don't exactly scream Ironhide and Mirage (plus, Mirage's previous CHUG mold is one of the best). But, I already have Optimus and Alpha Bravo (who got replaced on Superion when Slingshot got released after all), plus Offroad (who got replaced in a similar fashion when Wildrider was similarly released) I figured if I was getting Prowl, I'd just need one more limb to make a whole combiner. A part of me said wanted to wait for Wheeljack, but I wanted to make a combiner now. So I decided to get another. And Offroad's a Decepticon, so better make that three. And then I decided I couldn't get all but one, so I said screw it and bought all four. Well, I guess I can get Hound along with Wheeljack when Wave 5 hits, then grab another torso and stick 'em with Offroad and Alpha Bravo, because I don't really need another Trailbreaker or Smokescreen (Bluestreak, maybe, but screw Smokescreen).- 17162 replies

I agree as well. I mean, was it as good as the original? Of course not- the first one is a classic. But I thought the remake did a pretty good job of of taking the same basic idea (good cop badly injured by criminals, becomes cyborg, struggles with his humanity in the shadow of a greedy company that sees him as a product) and making it their own. In doing so, I think it lost some of the timeless qualities that made the original a classic, but tackled relevant contemporary issues like the roll of drones on the battlefield and in law enforcement. It's easily the second-best of the Robocop films, and I'd be interested in a sequel.

Unicorn is the only one that'd make my top 10 list, but it's hard to take them seriously when they show Shining Grand am for God, Destiny for Strike Freedom, and Impulse for Destiny. Or only give the RX-78 an honorable mention. (speaking of honorable mentions, Kyrios? A poor man's Zeta.) Or refer to Deathscythe as haring "lots of guns in its head and collar."- 3815 replies

If they really make it I'll build it. Better than the Red Frame, at least. But there are UC suits like GP02, Alex, Hyaku Shiki, ZZ, and Nu that need to be made before any more SEED kits.
