  1. Hey, Hicks and Drake were pretty cool. Besides, most of the infantry types I've encountered around here had more in common with Hudson than you'd want to believe, so Cameron might not have been too far off in his depiction.
  2. Does the manga really differ that much from the anime? I've only read the 1st volume, and it was virtually scene for scene the same as the anime.
  3. Spoiler alert! ALF SHOOTS FIRST!!! Yep. George Lucas and his apprentice Bill Gates are secretly building a Death Star XP Professional in Redmond. From there, they will exert total control over all media in the galaxy. George Lucas also employs a team of ninjas who sneak into your storage room at night to break your old GI Joes and steal all the little loose pieces from your G1 transformers. No childhood memory is safe!
  4. Oh yeah? From CHUD.com's review...
  5. At the end of the day, I'm sure that this is somehow George Lucas' fault. That nasty childhood rapist. Why can't he leave poor Alf alone?
  6. Of course. They'd be getting a cut of the profits, so why wouldn't they? I'm skeptical, but I'll reserve judgement for now. If this info is coming from Madman Ent, then it may have some validity to it.
  7. The M+ dub is surprisingl good, especially when you consider the time in which it was recorded. I can't think of any dubs from the early 90's that hold a candle to it. For comparison, just look at the horrid Macross 2 dub.
  8. I say the hell with those audiences. Audiences are dumb, and I'm sick of movies getting dumbed down just so they can pander to the lowest common denominator. If Joe Sixpack and Suzy Homemaker don't like Sky Captain, they can just go to Wal Mart and buy some insipid Adam Sandler movie on DVD to wash the taste away. Of course, that won't get any sequels made.
  9. Scream if this hurts. Damn, can Jessica kick ass or what?
  10. If V Gundam was such a failure, why did it last for its full 52 episode run? Wouldn't it have been slashed and condensed, like Southern Cross?
  11. Aybody heard this? The Pillage
  12. Well, there was that old AvP spec script that's been online for eons. It pretty much lifted the entire plot from the original AVP comic (Peter Briggs siad it was 'inspired by') but I think there were some legal issues with that. And, of course, Paul Anderson has ideas of his own. Dark, twisted ideas. Ideas that...well, suck. I can even swallow setting the film on Earth to keep the budget down, but they then go and build all of these pyramid sets. That money couldn't make something otherworldly as a setting? How much does this film cost, anyway?
  13. I remember saying those very words...... ....when I was standing in line for Highlander 2: the Quickening
  14. Any toy store that charges $40 Cdn for a Transformers reissue doesn't get my business. Sorry, TRU. You lose.
  15. This thread made a decent read right up to the art where Keith compared Gundam 0080 to Macross 2. At that precise point, it swerved into some lunatic world that makes little or no sense. 0080 is better than Sunrise's entire Gundam output since Char's Counterattack.
  16. Yeah, I think the PG-13 is going to hurt it in the long run. I'm no gore freak, but I don't need it edited to shield my virgin eyes either. From what I saw in the preview, all the kills are either 1) off camera 2) rapid cutaway, sos youse don't see nuttin 3) filmed in Pred-o-vision Maybe they're saving the "meat 'n' potatos" for a later DVD release. Unless this thing somehow does well past its opening weekend, I don't think we'll ever be seeing Alien 5.
  17. What, you mean the Newborn? Oh come on, don't be so hard on the little tyke. He just wanted to be loved, dammit. Didn't you hear those insipid cooing sounds it made when it looked at Ripley? Then the poor lil' munchkin got sucked into space through a bullet hole. Such is the nature of the universe. Let that be a lesson for us all.
  18. That would explain so many things.
  19. My understanding is that the "grid head" alien gets his markings from an encounter with a predator wire-net, like that poor rastafarian in Predator 2. He's indeed supposed to be a recurring drone.
  20. A New Featurette has popped up online. It doesn't show much, but there's some new footage that was't in any of the trailers. Plus, you gotta love the gratuitous use of the XP-55 Ascender.
  21. Another gripe I have is with the stupid AvP promo itself. Dammit, why'd they have to show nearly each and every kill? So much for the "suspense" factor.
  22. I was gonna put my comments in the other AvP thread, but since WhiteDrew started this new one I'll play along.... Yeah, wtf was with this 10 years in the making b.s.? The general idea may have been around since Predator 2 (or even earlier with the old Dark Horse comics) but back in 1994 who was Paul anderson? He was nobody, that's who. He certainly was NOT pitching another installment into Fox's Alien franchise. Other random thoughts... Why does this movie have to be so...Earth-centric. Before, it was just the Predators comming here to kill poo. Now we're the cornerstone of their entire hunting hierarchy, not to mention thier "mentoring" our ancient civilisations. Blech. Did the chamber with the skeletons remind anybody else of the hypersleep chamber in Alien? The new bulked up extreme Predators look like crap. Nice to see P.A. lifted the body armor from the Dark Horse comics too. The fully animatronic Alien did look cool. Too bad it's wasted in this tripe. Facehuggers in bullet-time? Gawd, kill me now.
  23. Ouch. I'll wait for DVD. That is...unless somebody I know downloads it first. You (not surprisingly) suck, Paul Anderson.
  24. For some strange reason, I have this overwhelming urge to get really drunk and see Alone in the Dark when it comes out. It seems to me that could be a fun way to kill a Sunday afternoon.
