  1. That's a very good point. Even the V2 VF-1 toys have an all metal (albeit painted) diecast ball, with a plastic insert into the socket for friction. Anyone have any issues with the hips on their VF-1 toys? I sure haven't heard about it.

    EDIT:

I'm not entirely sure about that painted part. Maybe they left the ball unpainted?

Yea thats seems more along the lines of a sturdy hip...

I understand yamato folded, but since they didnt change the factory, it doesn't explain why they couldnt manufacture the same.

like chronocidal mentioned...hard to fanthom how or why it can be forgetten...

  2. ^Agreed. I can forgive misaligned markings and other small annoyances if the toy is solid. The hip ball joint issue has me concerned. It would have been nice to see it completely resolved for the 0A release. Hopefully, the 0S fairs better.

On a related note, I took my 0A out for a test swoosh this evening. It looks very good, and I'm happy with the paint and the markings out of the box. I'll have to reference this thread during my first transformation to take careful note of the scratch points (like the triangles). Also, the head laser on my copy sits straight in case anyone is keeping track.

In addition to the *test swoosh* i added *test guns/missiles firing* :) as well...

yeah my laser seems to be straight also...

  3. I honestly wonder whether it's even possible or reasonable to expect fewer failures than we're seeing in Arcadia products. These toys are pretty complex mechanical designs when you think about it. I can't think of too many other products that would have near the same amount of complexity as far as moving parts. And even the ones that do usually don't have to account for how the parts will fit in multiple configurations the way a PT valkyrie toy does. Slight changes to even a single part have to factor in what it's going to affect as far as articulation and appearance in all three modes. It's not a like an action figure where, if I decide to make the legs slightly longer, it's mostly an aesthetic determination that won't affect functionality. There's also the fact that consequences for failing components are low in a valk compared to a lot of other mechanically complex products. If a joint fails in a valk, sure you'll be pissed but little harm is done. A component fails in a car and someone could die, so you know they will make damn well sure that the probability of failure is extremely low.

Minor error/issues that dont affect the overall playability (it is a toy after all!!) or i would say durability should be tolerable.

Any toy manufacturer should look to really lock down potential areas of breakage.

It boils down to overengineering. No point overengineering it if it breaks so easily.

Thats what i loved abt my old VF toy. It cant pose like the modern ones with the legs etc, but hey it still transforms effortlessly after 20 odd years!

    sorry minor rant..back to surgery...

  4. A full diecast metal ball hip joint would probably have been a better way to go. Not sure if it was a limitation of the factory unable to cast a ball joint or not, but i do hope it wasnt because of cost. Or was it because a metal ball joint would be loose after a while? I thk that could be rectified with plastic insert or something.

Again barring the hip joint, everything else feels solid.

    * thrusters extended after trying it with drier hands but still considered tight.. <_<

  5. Thanks yeti for the detailed guide, gonna try and give it a go!

Ignacio all I can say is to be in a calm state when handling the hips.

I was flustered getting it into gerwalk mode. Those shoulders just didn't seem like want to swing out and I pushed the darn legs too hard to get clearance.

  6. sigh 0a left leg came off like yeti's... am PM'ing as to how to take the leg apart.

That aside, does anyone have issues pulling the leg thrusters out again after pushing them back in?

I cant pull them out no matter how hard i try..is there a technigue am missing?

0a battroid never gets old...i like the way the legs are posed ...hip, thigh, knee flow highlighting the seperate forms of the legs...

plus from this angle the thin hip bar connectors arent so obvious...

  8. That's what I did since you can't put the Ghost canards at the same time while squeezing it since the space is tight compared to the Yamato one. Even though you put it one at a time, you need to squeeze the other one to put it in. Regarding stress on the Ghost canards, I can't guarantee 100% that it's safe. I need to check mine later.

If you guys are worried that it will give stress to your Ghost canards, then my advice is don't do it. I only just shared what I did to make it work since I plan on putting the Ghost Booster on my VF-0A.

At this point in time majority knows that the new VF-0's back is not as wide as the old Yamato VF-0's. So if you guys still want to try it then do it at your own risk. It's what I did. ;)

hmmm point taken. It would be good to know the extent of stress marks but i guess only time would tell.

Plus also it would depend on how you squeezed it in in the first place. However if it looks solid and for display only, i thk it would likely work.

Although they havent announced any yet, i would thk rereleased ghosts would be more expensive. Knowing if it old yammies work may save up some cash...There was one selling at my local flea market but i passed up on it as i wasnt sure how well it would fit...

  9. We should start placing bets on what Arcadia's next announcement will be! Im gonna stick to my guns (the dream I had) about the SV-51r Ivanov renewal! =D

after what wmkjr did with the VF-0D and VF-0A in the 0A/0S thread...my bet would be on the VF-0B/C!!!although i wont bet big ^_^

  10. Finally picked up my box and what is the first thing that this big idiot does?

    attachicon.gif20150904_095946.jpgattachicon.gif20150904_095858.jpg

what! a double seater vf-0a? did you just make it a......vf-0b!!? :o I would like to hear if it could pass as the 0b version.. B))B))

edit* Just to add, you may have accidentally revealed the next arcadia release after the vf-0a CF!! :D

@no3ljm just trying to imagine the squeezing of the ghosts canards to fit you mentioned.. From vf5ss video review it doesnt seem possible and would end up scratching the top 0a paint or worse breaking the ghost canards?

  11. @spanner nice tight shots esp liking the details on the black vents!

arrrgggh am too busy to even open mine....will have to examine it later....

yea liking the ghost boosters...though i guess its not the perfect fit...will await more pics of it in different angles hopefully the booster wont drop off...

if it stays well, might try to hunt one down too...

Additional pointers on the backpack area based on what I saw in the manual. Push the folding back part area more towards the body so that it will create a space so that when you fold the backpack it will have more clearance. Atleast the pointy part from the back is not touching the tailfins. Hope that helps. ;)

Just comparing the greys on both VF-4G and VF-0A. Love it.

ahh nice tip on the backpack! cant wait to try it!

  12. Going out on a limb here...

The suspicion i have on the high prices of arcadia, has nothing to do with cost of manufacturing.

Looking at the resale values of the old yammie's, would you as higher mngt price your new valks at resale value territory or rather cheaper?

Yamato's MSRP and today's resale values are significantly higher.

I think aracadia have figured that the perception of scarcity is powerful indeed. (as reflected in yamato's demise)

Hence they are taking a business risk to maintain a 'luxury' toy at 'luxury' prices.

If they get their QC more consistant...they would have a viable biz model.

The risk here is the world economy, and an aging macross fan base..:p....(hopefully delta would maintain the fan base)

Look at #ForceFriday SW toys are still going strong (and pricey too) due to maintained fan bases...

  13. Re-re-assembled.

    *snip

It is actually holding up better than the stock hip.

Sure. $30 a pop. J/K. I'll mail them for the cost of postage.

When you have the tools at your disposal, you might as well use them.

was kinda bummed when i saw ur disaster pics...though magically it looks so gorgeous after you fixed it, must be the pose holding its own....

When Arcadia release their VF-0S, they should include a bag with 6 replacement ball sockets to cover their Current QC issues with VF-0D , VF-0a and possible VF-0S,

either that or get it from yeti!!

although i wouldnt want to need to fix the joint for the amout of $$ its costs, but somehow with the fixes available, it seems kinda like dissambling and making your toy more bionic!

i wonder if there would be 'BIONIC' parts...haha..

replace steve austin with VF-0a to get ...SIX MILLION DOLLAR VALK!

  14. Here's my review of Shin's VF-0A.

Nice review VF5SS! glad to see its quite solid B)) though i had chills whenever u had to use a lil force esp the hips ^_^

appreciate the effort reviewing it....only negative would be its making want to get the CF now also...

  15. @saburo waiting for your non quick shot! :p

    early production sample vf 0s

    http://www.metal-box.jp/blog/

the vf-0s looks quite nice but i hope nothing would change until the actual christmas release dates....no color shifting pls arcadia!

suddenly tho that figurearts iron man really captured my attention with the reflection of the lights....dang.....perhaps vf-0s needs a wing'IRONMAN'!!!

  16. totally depends on the state of my finances but looking at the forums do pump me up at times!

It used to be couple hours each day when i first started collecting again, trying to pick up missed items.

Mandarake is a notorious time killer.....to buy or not to buy....

But nowadays its more time spent posting in here mwf! :D:D:D:D

I just need to lock up my credit card should there be nice postings on collectables...which is often....

  17. i got a pop up msg saying the BIJ website might be vulnerable to the heartbleed security bug.

Did anyone else get that message? Am using chrome w AVG software.

Again, its not reflective of their reputation as i have not used them and am not trying to discourage anyone using them.
