Yes. Ummmm, no. For generalization purposes for the VF, we include the boosters and weapon systems as part of the entire set (even though we really shouldn't) since it would be easier to explain to many people (in a few instances, weapon and additional systems are built in to the FAST packs). FAST packs really are just what they stand for. Fuel and sensor pods. Refer to Noyhauser's note about different requirements for different environments. At that point, the FAST pack package they had (Super parts for just the legs) was all that was built for the VF-0 (that all they thought would be needed). But since they needed more thrust and more weapons, the flight crews added on the additional missile launchers (located on the dorsal side above dorsal fuel tanks) and the Ghost booster. That was a field modification. Not a prototype FAST/Super pack prototype. Actually I could argue it for both. The VF-0 was a tad underpowered. So to compensate for it, we see its Super parts. However, since it was such a nifty idea, the idea also served as a test to the VF-1. Conceptually, a VF-0 and VF-1 are pretty close. Actually, the Anti-UN got the VF data when DD defected to the Anti-UN (see here). And if the SV-51 was deployed already, you would have to bet that the UN needed to counter that threat. edit: can't spell.....

I think we're just misunderstanding each other.... Conceptually, yes. Practically, no. That would sort of fall under the catagory of no. The missile pods that they mounted on could be used by any later VF but those are just weapon systems, which any VF or normal fighter could probably use. So that would fall under no. The Ghost booster was definitely a no. ....Yeah I could agree with that. I would seriously doubt that. Test equipment for a VF-0, concept for a VF-1.
-
But those were FAST packs. They're on practically every VF we've seen so I would hardly call them those things VF-1 prototypes.
-
Actually, it sounds like the whole system was a field improvision than a prototype. The flight crew basically strapped all of these options on in a matter of hours. They needed a booster so they strapped on a light-weight Ghost (slightly lighter without most of the computers on it). The missile pods were extra weapon systems they were testing and they needed more missiles than the FAST packs could carry so they attached those as well. It may appear conceptually that this specification is what led to the VF-1's FAST packs but in this instance, this sounds more like a field improvision. I truly doubt this was a prototype system.

I think Roy didn't become a womanizer until after Aries' death. Roy has always been a womanizer. But at that moment, he's got his attention on Aries. And whoever said Shin was a womanizer?

Or so as their myth says.... Actually, I think that honor fell solely on the Nome family. Mao would have been next in line should Sara have died before AFOS was awakened. Mao would have been able to trigger it if something dramatic happened. But Mao was incapacitated and the turn of events favored Sara. But the sequence of events, if you could call it that, probably began when Sara met Dr. Hasford when Sara was younger.

Probably. So no more SV-52.

... I left you speechless... Were you thinking of me naked or something? That leaves most people speechless. Please keep your warped thoughts to yourself. I, for one, don't need to know them. (Actually I was responding to what you and the guy I quoted below you said in that post in 1 easy sentence as opposed to seperate replies) Yep. Perhaps....why do you have a problem with that?
-
More like, we don't do speculation (i.e. what should be the next Macross, what's the next VF, what really happened to person X etc, etc, etc) in this thread, period.
-
That's probably what the reason behind it becoming part of the fanchise (can't recall off hand). Anyways.... It was an F-14....... Well as Chief Nakajima said, it''s love.

Various spots. Can't remember where. I think Egan mentioned it once at a con, it was mentioned in a book, but I can't recall. The concept of M+ itself wasn't suppose to be part of the Macross franchise (this was in the planning stages of M+ ; pre-pre-pre-pre-production so it wasn't a last minute thing). The story concept, IIRC, was the same, 2 pilots, a girl, 2 prototype fighters, etc, etc, etc. Then Kawamori changed his mind (probably since it was the 10th anniversary of Macross) and made it part of the Macross franchise.
-
Good point. However, given the scope of what Macross Plus was originally (Remember, it wasn't suppose to be part of Macross originally) I won't read into M+ that much. But then again, I don't see AFOS really testing humanity as much as I see it teaching humanity it's final lesson. In addition, Claudia doesn't really give us dates. We are working off visual cues in the scene. In the original SDFM, the ranks of UN were wearing those funny uniforms, yet when we go to M0, Roy, Shin, Edgar, and all those pilots were wearing flight suits from our time.

Please see the entry for the VF-0. http://www.anime.net/macross/mecha/united_.../vf0/index.html There are 2-seat versions for the VF-0A, which is what the VF-0B from Hasagawa is (until otherwise noted). Read: http://www.anime.net/macross/mecha/united_.../vf0/index.html VF-17D is not a 2-seater.

2) The Varauta system is in the vicinity of the "center of the galaxy". It is also the area where Megaroad-01 is believed to have disappeared. But considering that the "center of the galaxy" is a huge area to cover and is vastly unexplored by humans, they could be anywhere or not even there.

Well, now that a subbed version is out (and one I can 90% agree with), A1's comments pretty much nailed it. Protoculture left AFOS as the final lesson. Protoculture made its mistakes when it created the Zentradi/Meltrandi, and eventually the beings that would become the Protodevlin. The "lesson" from AFOS could be what was suppose to have been passed on the the Zentradi and later, the Protodevlin. But since Protoculture was being wiped out, they couldn't teach that lesson to their creations, so that responsiblity fell on humanity's shoulders. If you look at it this way, Zero does an excellent job of bridging SDFM/DYRL? and 7 together (Plus is the oddball, considering it doesn't add to the Macross story). It would be humanity's responsibility to "correct the mistakes" of Protoculture (i.e. the Zentradi and Protodevlin). There was no conflict. Roy met Aries in college. He ran off to fight. She stayed behind. Roy then met Claudia. When they were seperated, you could say Aries got her second chance. When she died, she gave Roy a lesson. When Roy was reunited with Claudia, Roy got his second chance, and this time he choose to stay.

I know Graham or Nanashi have presented that design. It was from a magazine and it's not a fan-made pic. It was done by Kawamori as part of his VF-EX or one of his VF variation columns (think MSV, only for VFs).
-
Yes, he can turn his neck. That's why the cowl is seperate from the rest of the suit (even the cape). They really wanted Bale to be able to turn his neck in that suit.
-
I said it once, and I'll say it again. Meh.

The Lt. would outrank the 2 Sgts (remember, the 2 Sgts are NCOs). Even if the Sgts have much more experienced, an officers' authority still outweighs a NCO. The majority of flight groups are made up of officers (I'm not sure about having a NCO fly one of those things, yet in times of need, yes, you should have NCOs flying, like in SDFM). Unless of course those 2 Sgts aren't under the authority of the Lt....
-
No matter what angle they show that cowl at...I still have issues with it. Just the cowl and not the rest of the suit.

Most ramblings I've heard were that we probably would not see Buster or Duel. Since the Zakus are much more capable than those 2, they really aren't much of a match. Duel was a pretty standard MS (just a concept). The only things going for it was PS-armor and beam weapons. PS-armor is too costly and too much of a drain on the battery to place in mass-production models (read, impractical for any mass-produced MS). And beam weapons are standard on the Zaku (standard beam rifle and beam axe). Buster was designed for long-range combat. Well, the "Gunner" attachment to the Zaku fills that role of long-range combat. Plus it has the beam rifle and beam axe. For the Zaku Phantom, the "Slash" and "Blaze" attachments fulfill any need for additional weapons. The Zaku Warrior/Phantom covers most of the duties that Duel and Buster were designed except for the PS-armor, so the question is, is there really any need for Duel or Buster to show up since the Zakus fill the roles they had thanks to the various weapons packs avaliable for it? I doubt we'll see a huge improvement to Archangel. She was a fairly advanced ship for her time.

Nope. I don't even know Japan's reaction to Innocence or Steamboy. Let's face it, we're all subculture Otakus here, no-one has even heard of Macross... Actually, I'm gonna look into subculture and cult stuff in the next few months in detail, so I'll let you know then. I will say that I was lucky to rent the DVD when I did because it is constantly on rental now, along with Samurai Champloo and Cowboy Bebop (even six years after release!!). So this is an interesting phenomenon nonetheless. According to Oricon's daily rankings, Episode 5 was #4 on the initial release date (remember, it's based on sales/rentals/money/etc) for animation releases. Gundam Seed and Ghost in the Shell TV 2nd season were ahead. It has since fallen to 7th behind Alladin and the previously mentioned GitS TV 2nd season and Gundam Seed.

You should go out and get the Macross Design Works book. It will explain a majority of your questions. 1) They're there. Look harder (i.e. see attachment) 2) My guess? Venier thrusters. Who knows? Who cares. 3) This is answered in the Macross Design Works book. The YF-21 does not need the FAST packs to hold the gun pods. The underside does have mounts for holding the gunpods without the use of the FAST packs. However, during most of M+, you see the YF-21 with the mounts closed and without the gunpods. As Shawn says here: "You WANT this book-really!" http://www.macrossworld.com/macross/books/...esign_works.htm
