1. I want the KO G1 cassettes! I saw the first carded set selling for insane prices on e-bay. Guess most people were not aware they were bootlegs.
2. I was also one of the people that put in the $100 for this kit, along time ago in a galaxy far far away 342555 344270 As did I.
3. Yeah, I have both the original and the "German Gray" repaint. The repaint looks nicer than I expected, since it is a much darker gray than it appears in pictures. And it's nice that besides color differences it's identical to the first one. (I had first heard it wouldn't come with the regular head). I also bought the cool girl GITS Motoko Kusanagi ninja suit version and will probably get the trench coat version if I can find it. After purchasing these and the Medicom RAH Darth Vader, I am getting hooked on 12' figure collecting. I can't wait for the RAH Stormtrooper.
4. Without getting into a subjective argument over how one car design looks better than another, I do have a complaint. Despite all the companies building vehicles, it often seems like the majority of products share the same design elements. It is like one designer does everything. Look at retro styling...I love the new Mustang but you have to admit some of the car companies have overdone old-is-new styling. And it is far from the only overused element. I guess in a way, you can't blame the auto manufacturers. Boxy sells well, design boxy vehicles. Small cars sell well, design small cars. Car with smoothed egdes sell well, etc....you get the idea. So in a way, it makes sense. I'd just like to see more companies take chances with unique styles and avoid all of the "me too-ism".
5. You BMW hater! I am sort of apathetic to the new BMW's. I don't think they are ugly, but nothing screams "buy me" either. Meh, too bland for the price. Yellowlightman, what year is your friend's car? I have a neighbor with a white '86 320i that is set up for autocrossing. It may be an older car, and not everyone's cup of tea but it is a beauty in its own right.
6. At the risk of getting totally off-topic for the thread, most people missed the point of TF&TF. It wasn't a street racing movie, it was an action movie set with a street racing backdrop. A very silly action movie with a street racing backdrop. If it was an authentic street racing movie it'd be a movie about a bunch of kids in ghetto beater Honda's racing in business parks and getting arrested and hastled all the time by the cops. As it is, it's an enjoyable movie suitable for watching with some friends with cold beer (which has to be Corona). 339209 Yeah, the first one was definetly filmed with tongue-in-cheek dialogue. It is as much unabashed comedy as action, and that is what made it fun to watch. The second one tried to focus much more on racing and failed miserably.
7. Really? I never read this thread before, so I didn't notice this. Sounds like the movie has a chance of being good. Any updates?
8. You kids are just lucky you have a chance to watch anime in school at all. I can still remember when we first got computers and the window unit AC's were replaced with central air...and of course there was the walking five miles through the snow, uphill both ways. Seriously though, I was in college before I saw my first real anime (not including RT, BOTP, etc) . Expensive tapes passed around and watched in dorm lobbies...good times.
9. I really don't know. It looks good where it meets the windshield and A-Pillars and above the doors. It doesn't look so great in the back where it meets the rear window. Something about it just doesn't work for me. I do like the heat extractor hood though. Is it functional? The wing on the other hand is just plain ugly.
10. To me, it isn't so much that we are getting Blaster. It is the fact that it confirms the reissue line is continuing. I want to see Artfire, and I would love to have all the TF cassettes (including the Japanese ones) reissued. I wonder if we will see Twincast released down the line?
11. No, Saleen is indeed one of the major suppliers. Not the only supplier, but they are very involved in the cars production. And the Ford GT is built at the Wixom assembly plant, well sort of anyway. Check out This Article on Car & Driver.com for the full story. But here is a relevant snippet: The article gives a good overview of the problems that have plagued the Ford GT, so it is an interesting read. BTW Axelay, nice work on the labels. Definetly something I am interested in picking up. Love that Sonic Blue on the pony too.
12. Yep, Steve Saleen even fired some of his workers after both he and Ford had been embarrased by one too many recalls and problems with the GT. And poor QC is nothing new for Saleen. One of the Mustang magazines tested the new Saleen mustang a few months back (don't remember if it was the base Saleen Mustang or the Extreme). During the course of their drive, they commented on the poor fit and gaps on the body kit, the hood rattled at highway cruising speeds, and the Saleen logo even fell off the steering wheel.... Nothing new with them. Don't get me wrong, they look great and Saleen's racecraft suspension is very nice. Their interiors are also always leaps and bounds above stock. They are nice looking cars and decent performers. definetly eye turners. But ask anyone who has even installed a Saleen body kit on a mustang about how much fun that is. *shudder* I don't know if they have had any problems with the S7's though. But the problems with the Saleen Mustangs and the Ford GT are inexcusable considering their price tags.
13. In all seriousness, you are right. Don't tell anyone, but we own a Civic too. (the same 94 my husband bought in college...only thing that has had to be done besides regular maintenance was gasket replacement at over 140,000 miles). It may not be my favorite car, but it isn't bad. My husband drives over sixty miles one way to work each day. Driving the Cobra would be expensive, and driving the Lightning would be ridiculous. ________________ And Stamen, you don't know how tempted I am to get the NSX. I'm just afraid it would end up being an expensive garage decoration. It seems to have been pretty severly flooded...and it smells bad, like a wet dog. Our local Ford dealership owner will attend one of the auctions next week though and if it goes cheaply enough, maybe. But I'd bet on it being picked up by a professional restoration company. It would be a guaranteed sale once rebuilt. ________________ Speaking of poor build quality; someone here in town just took delivery of the Blue Oval's overweight "supercar", the Ford GT (white with blue stripes). Talking about having more money than sense. I wonder why Ford allowed Saleen to build the cars in the first place? As nice as Saleens are (and I do love the way they look) , they have had a long reputation for shoddy quality (mainly poor fitting body kits, etc.). That is just unacceptable for an expensive car, especially with the small amount of vehicles turned out. Why did anyone think it would be any different with them building the Ford GT? How many recalls now?
14. I didn't want this to get lost because of comedy hour. Who knows the specifics when it comes to selling or buying salvaged vehicles in your state? Unfortunately, in Mississippi, auto dealers are allowed to rebuild and resell vehicles that have been totaled. They need not be inspected by a professional. A quick trip to the nearest Highway Patrol office, a twenty five dollar fee, and a five minute lookover is enough to get a salvage title. Ten more minutes and a few documents later (photographic or written evidence detailing the rebuild), you can get a clear title from the same place. Unscrupulous dealers wouldn't have a problem faking the paperwork. So I would expect to see a lot of these vehicles make their way through Mississippi and to other markets. Hopefully other states do more to protect their consumers.
15. Is there any confirmation that Broadcast (Blaster) is the next reissue? (TFC 21). If yes, any clue if he will come with one of his tapes?
16. Are you getting your degree from Bovine University too? Tell Mgrexx I said hi. Seriously though, do you really think I care what you think about my vehicles? You. Drive. A. 1992. Civic. Enough said. Can we agree to disagree though before we get this thread locked? If you have anything important to say, you can PM me. But enough with the drama queen act please. We've both derailed this thread for too long.
17. A word of warning for those who might be in the market for a used car, truck, or SUV anytime within the next year. There are well over a thousand vehicles at an auction lot here being prepped for sale. All were damaged in some way as a result of Hurricanes Katrina or Rita, and now belong to various insurance companies. The damage varies from total destruction by flying debris, to total water immersion, to limited flooding. There have been crews out every day cleaning the cars. So please, please do a carfax or some other check if you buy any used vehicles. Remember, some states don't require salvage titles or even that original titles list flood damage. Some may be great deals, but I'd woudn't want to think of the electrical problems that could occur with a flooded car. Just something to keep in mind. It does make me sad every time I drive buy and see that silver NSX though. I'm betting that wasn't a happy owner.
18. More of the wit. Shall we trade insults? Wow, an elitist snob who can't afford a decent car. No wonder you are such an asshat. If I had to drive something like that, I'd be bitter too. Do you have a set of those spinning plastic wheel covers from Autozone that makes you really cool? How is that? Am I as clever as you now? Oh please, that has been my problem with you from the start. You have gone out of your way to knock on cars you don't like and automotive sports that *you* don't approve of. It is annoying when you have spent a long time perfecting what you do, and some a-hole who has probably never worked on a car in his life can hide behind a computer screen and make fun of it. You don't have to like it, but why insult it unless you have some need to feel superior?
19. True, but would anyone actually wear something like that in public? I suppose it wouldn't be that bad if you had a bike that was close to the color of the helmet. I still think it would look silly though. Not as silly as someone would look wearing a DYRL? style Macross helmet, but silly nonetheless. I still wish I could find one of the Yamato Macross helmets for display though.
20. Haha, how did I miss this: Such witty repertoire. Do you do stand up too? I could always use a butler or a gardner...The one thing I don't need: my own forum troll.
21. Has anyone here bought collector car insurance? I need to do something since my policy limits coverage to only five vehicles. Suggestions?
22. We recently traded in a 2003 GT for a 2003 Lightning. Both were over a year old, and neither had any rattles. The 95 Lightning has a cheap bed cover that rattles, that I should replace, but the interior is squeak free. To add to this, the fact is the Cobra's interior rattles worse than the 91 coupe I have had since high school. Not as bad as either of our race cars, but still pretty bad. It has been a daily driver for a couple of years though and I *did* have an accident in it when it was new (fell asleep and ran off the road into a ditch..lol). That could very well be a major factor.
23. I didn't think about it, but pfunk is right: You really can't compare the Supra to the Mustang. The Fox Mustang was about cheap speed in its day. Its relative low price and bang for the buck helped sell it. It made no apologies then or now for what it is. The Supra is still an expensive car on the used car market. You can buy a Fox Mustang for much less than five grand now, and have a lot left over for fun parts (including Saleen or Steeda suspension parts that improve the pony's handling characteristics). For a car that is so horrible and ugly, it has a hell of a lot of manufacturers that still develop and make new parts for it...not to mention the fact that there are two racing series devoted exclusively to the Mustang. Damn! I never knew NSX's were American V8's! I could have sworn they were mid-engine Japanese sports cars. Learn something new every day, I suppose.
24. Psst! Hey genius, here is a clue: I'm not the one who originally made the comparison. You actually helped proved my point. And you are right of course. The 5.7 litre V8 hasn't been used in the U.S. at all. It is a pity they never used that engine in the Corvette. Didn't use the 5.7 litre V8? Do you mean a specific model/type of that motor? That's just the 350c.i. small block. My raggedy ol' Ford has a 351C, and they called that a "5.8L V8". Only a difference of 1 cubic inch displacement, but they decided to round up with their figure, while Chevy on the other hand, rounded down. They've always been kinda skewed with their conversion figures. In regards to German cars: if the magazine pundits are to be believed, a general summary of the quality of German autos could be "keep this past the warranty period, if you dare." Of course, we know that's not always the case; Porsche after all built their reputation on the dead-bolts reliability of thier sports cars. It's largely why so much of production-based sports car racing [at least in the US] usually turns out to be a Porsche parade, with only a smattering of other makes here and there. 337906 D'oh...sorry! I was referring to the LS1 that the Monaro shares with the Corvette (one it shared before the Monaro was brought over as the GTO). There are some minor differences, including camshaft but for all intents and purposes the GTO's powerplant is all American, not an Australian design. A question: Why have RWD V8 cars remained so popular in Australia for so long?
