  1. That's exactly what I was channeling.
  2. I read the comments on that article and it's like "Can't tell if trolling, or just completely ignorant."
  3. Again, back to my original (petty) complaint: I would like it better if the regular soldiers were halfway competent and could manage to put a dent into the enemy's forces. But they are always shown as bumbling, inept, cowardly cannon fodder who just stand there in fear while the enemy blows right through them. The only thing they can do is just wildly shoot at the other guy until they are finally put out of their misery. Not trying to detract from the story, but this has always been one of my biggest pet peeves about any movie, anime, cartoon, or TV show. A halfway-decent counter-example: Chronicles of Riddick... We all know how badass Richard B Riddick is. When the Necromongers invaded Helion Prime, the local military put up a fight, as the should. They even show a couple of examples when their air defense managed to down one of the Necros' invasion ships. There was even that street fight scene where they managed to destroy a squad of Necros soldiers, only to be taken out by a last-second desperation attack by the final soldier. The Necromongers were just too many and too well-disciplined for the defenders, so they quickly fell. But still... I can respect the little things like that in a movie or whatever. Back to Aldnoah Zero, though... I'm eagerly awaiting the next episodes week by week. I would still like to see some emotion from Inaho. That, and some form of flaw(s) in his character are what are keeping this show from becoming a 10/10. All of the other characters are colorful, varied, and apparently normal.
  4. I didn't see those control surfaces. Good spot. I also began to consider certifying for safety, since I don't see how this could work in a one-engine-out condition. Went to their website and saw that their most recent prototype design is actually a quad-copter with partially overlapping fans. This seems more stable and definitely a step in the right direction.
  5. I don't see how this thing has any roll or yaw stability. The first gust of wind and that thing is tipping over.
  6. I agree about the MC, but it doesn't bother me all too much. Just as long as he doesn't turn out to be completely OP *cough-the-irregular-at-magic-high-school-cough*. Conversely, I don't like that the enemy is so ridiculously advanced. I like to see that other friendly forces are putting a dent into the enemy, but are just outclassed and/or outnumbered to the point where it doesn't seem so hopeless and futile to fight. I just watched ep. 2 and I was yelling at the friendly mechs to fire their grenades at the feet of that enemy mecha... at least you might be able to obscure his vision and make a getaway, but no... So far, it's been easy to predict what is really going on. This isn't just some response to an assassination, it's just a subterfuge to subjugate humanity.
  7. I watched the first episode about a week ago and I was impressed. The production values appear to be top-notch and the story has some potential to be a great story of the struggle of humanity. I just haven't had the chance to continue watching; trying to get through some other series before jumping into this one.
  8. That one is still technically missing the front view, but you get the idea.
  9. I use the Corsair Vengeance 1500 7.1 headset on my PC. I used it to play Planetside 2 and they performed masterfully. I could hear the faintest sounds near me, which did a lot to help my survivability. They're durable and, best of all, comfortable. The cord is covered by a protective material (not sure if it's some kind of kevlar), but it kept my gf from completely destroying them when she accidentally ran over the cord with the vacuum. At $80, it's bit more expensive than anime52k8's suggestion, but it's worth the extra money.
  10. I would imagine that you want to present a freedom of lifestyle to the fleet colonists. Plus, the Frontier fleet life support system was nowhere near its capacity. It was only when they sustained heavy damage from Vajra attacks that they forced the Zentradi to miclone themselves to make sure the ecosystem remained strong enough to support everyone. You can see the benefits of letting them live in their natural state, as Seto already mentioned.
  11. Cool. I'm glad to see you got this published. Best of luck to you!
  12. I can totally relate to rules 3 and 15. I'll bookmark this one for when I start writing again.
  13. So, I got bitten by the ecchi bug and binge-watched a couple of series this past week. Normally, I dislike ecchi anime, but I did my best to enjoy the story that was being told. Unfortunately, I did not get the endings I was hoping for in either series. I checked out Ladies vs. Butlers! first and it had some character progression and a pretty wide variety of different personalities to go with each one. However, the main male lead, while a pretty nice guy and unfortunate victim of bad circumstances, showed his empty-headedness at the end of the series. I know most series involve characters who are in their teens, but they can't all be this dumb when it comes to the matters of the heart. I love tsunderes and Selnia was a great one. This one isn't good enough to recommend, but it might be somewhat entertaining. Only 12 eps, so it isn't too much of a time commitment. Afterwards, I watched seasons 1 and 2 of Freezing. I had high hopes for this one because it looked like the female lead was going to be a damn good character. The male lead is your typical nice guy who only occasionally shows that he has a pair of balls between those legs. I can't complain too much about him, but Sattelizer, the female lead had her ups and downs. This series has some fairly graphic violence, which includes some dismemberment and blood splatters. However, I always laughed when the first damage a female took in battle was always shown by tearing up the uniform covering her chest. I mean, I can see it happening on a rare occasion, but it was like every time. There's a lot of action in this series and some slightly heartwarming moments, but when the s**t hit the fan at the end of the second season, one of the supporting cast comes out of nowhere and goes godlike on the final boss. It just seemed like the author wrote himself or herself into a corner and this is how he or she got out of it. Anyway, the main complaint I have about both series is: I guess what I want is too much to ask for, in most cases... I stopped watching The Irregular at Magic High School because the male lead is just too OP. Every challenge that he faces is met with cool, calm, overwhelming force. This "high school student" seems to have a vast knowledge of the political state of the country and always makes the right decision, no matter what. Every girl is in love with him (including his sister, ugh) and all of the other students are forced to take a backseat to this guy. I might come back to finish the series, but right now... meh... Chaika - The Coffin Princess is still going strong. The story is entertaining, the characters are all pretty interesting, and there is always plenty of action. On top of that, there has been absolutely zero fan service! What? You can make a good anime series without impossibly-built female characters? No groping or nudity, either?? Shocking! I'm pleasantly surprised at how well this series has been going and am putting the thumbs up! out there for anyone looking for a good series to follow. I'm also following Brynhildr in the Darkness. There's ups and downs in this one. While the story is somewhat interesting, it's turning into a super-harem series. The male lead is a smart guy and has some guts, but he's still not smart enough to know when the perfect woman is crushing on him. There has been some fan-service in this series and it seems to happen once per episode. One of the female characters is usually the cause of the fan-service, always being a c**k-hungry nuisance to the male lead. Other than that, it's pretty interesting to follow. Oh, and the first opening music was awesome. They changed the OP in about episode 10; I've never seen an American metal band used as the opening music before. I haven't heard their music before, but it's done by a band named "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas". Interesting factoid... This series is not perfect, but worth checking out.
  14. Yeah, I forgot to mention that her computer is for gaming. I guess I'll get something that's SATA 3 compliant. I am sure that the Z97 chipset motherboards should be able to provide a SATA 3 port or two... I'll confirm that later today. So far, I can get all of the parts I need for about $1100. I just hope MicroCenter restocks their 4670Ks.
  15. +1 Need some opinions, so here I am. My gf's computer died and I figured out that it was a bad PSU. Rather than replace the PSU to get her POS computer working again, I'm doing some research and shopping to build her a whole new system. Yes, she's going to have a better computer than me when I'm done. So magnanimous of me, I know... So far, I'm looking at getting the following: Intel Core i5 4670K processor - $190 at MicroCenter (whenever it's in stock again) ASUS Z97-C mobo - $130 at Newegg (the rest from here on are NewEgg prices) EVGA GTX 760 4 GB video card - $295 16 GB Corsair Vengeance 1600 MHz RAM - $160 (strange, because I bought the same RAM in my system for $110 several months ago...) Antec Three Hundred Illiusion case - $65 EVGA 600B 600 Watt PSU - $65 I'm pretty sure the last component I'll need is a hard drive. I want to try out a SSD, but I know nothing of this newfangled technology. I could use some suggestions and maybe some tips on where to buy cheap. My gf currently has a 350 GB hard drive and always has plenty of space. I actually have a 150 GB and barely touch even half of it. I'm thinking we can get away with something around 300 GB or maybe a bit smaller. Otherwise, we don't want to spend money on both a SSD and a standard hard drive. What's going to work out best for us? What interface should I go for? I have no idea what the difference is between SATA 1, 2, or 3, or even micro-SATA. I'd like to stay at or below $120 for this component. I see the very cheapest ~250 GB SSD's are about this price. Any and all suggestions on the hard drive and other components would be appreciated.
  16. I usually don't give a crap about E3, but I was really excited about PvZ: Garden Warfare last year. This year, I'm drooling over Evolve. Don't care about anything else.
  17. I'd better pick up my work again; you're almost caught up to me in number of chapters!
  18. Well, the PS3 controller is giving me what I need... for now. I may outgrow it soon and will look into getting either a Logitech or Xbox controller. I actually went ahead and bought Cloudberry Kingdom instead of those other games I mentioned earlier. It's insane. I'm getting a lot of enjoyment out of it and hope to give the local co-op a whirl with some friends and/or family soon. Since I'm done with school now and have yet to land a job, I anticipate having ample free time to play what I have and try out some new stuff in the very near future.
  19. Good breakdown and explanation, Mike. I did not mention that I do have a PS3 that goes (largely) unused at the moment. Perhaps I can mess with those controllers to "test out" the use of the gamepad on a PC game and see if I like it. More than likely, I'll enjoy it and will want something a little better-tailored to my tastes and I'll grab either one of those Logitech controllers or one of the X-box-style pads. I played the demo for Waves and it's fun, but I'm not sure if I will like it enough to buy. I'll try it with a controller before I make a decision. The problem I see with BIT.TRIP BEAT is it apparently only has 3 levels. I really enjoyed Puppygames's Attack on Titan and their Droid Assault game looks like a lot of fun. I might start out with that.
  20. Looks like you can't buy the P990 new anywhere. Used ones on Amazon are $32+.
  21. So, I've been getting a craving for some action-arcade style games with a modern twist and have been looking at some titles on Steam to whet my appetite. So far, I'm interested in Geometry Wars, Syder Arcade, Droid Assault, Titan Attacks!, Waves, and BIT.TRIP BEAT. I'd like to know if any of you guys have any input on these titles, plus any others you'd like to suggest. Based on these games, you should be able to tell what types of games I'm looking for... stuff that mimics old-school arcade games like Asteroids, R-type, Gradius, Tron, Gorf, etc. I'm also looking to buy a gamepad. I've never used one on a PC, so I don't know what the really good ones are out there. A quick look at Newegg and Fry's showed me that the Logitech F710 or F310 should be something like what I need. I'd probably go for the 310, as I don't see the need for a wireless controller. I could definitely use some input on this. Thanks!
  22. From what I remember reading in one of Sketchley's translations, Michael has what's called "miclone sickness". He runs a high risk of serious injury or death if he attempts the macronization process. I don't remember that particular article saying anything about his lineage being the cause. I looked over Sketchley's site, but I can't find it. It was in a series of questions asked by the "interviewer" and answered (probably) by SK.
  23. What is this obsession with a game that is considered to be horrible and frustrating to play? Guess it was considered so bad, it's cool to join the bandwagon.
