Super Macross Mecha Fun Time Discussion Thread!

Kinda. It's a lot of engineering for a pair of legs to turn into a different looking blob. -

I have no idea how they would perform against each other - it's not particularly relevant or interesting. I was referring to design: how good-looking both forms are, and the smoothness of the transformation process. -

Pretty much any transforming in Gundam is half-assed. -

This "Gundam" disparity is somewhat mitigated in my mind because the Federal standard units (VF-24 and others, presumably) are supposed to be wtfcrazypowerful, at least according to the background information that you've mentioned in the past. All these "super" fighters are just playing catch-up with Earth standard tech, right? (I don't necessarily believe the background info jives with the narrative intent on screen, but that's a separate issue.) -
I actually like this color better than Keith's, but not enough to double dip on the -262.

I actually really like that pattern. If I hadn't seen it before I could accept that it was a part of the design in the first place. Looks like a heat vent or something.

Interesting story. I thought the multidrones primarily provided civilian defense. Were they also intended for aerial combat between fighters, or was that some sort of improvised “off-label” use by Arad? -

Yikes, I definitely do not trust myself to do that. But thanks for the tips and instructions, that is some amazing work.

I don't have one to try it on, that's why I was asking.

Star Trek's canon is pretty clear - I'd say as clear as Macross is, especially considering just how much screen material there is and how many different people were at the helm, so to speak. The general policy is that all the stuff that happens on screen is canon, and that stuff is relatively consistent. Almost all of the published works are licensed but not canon, and can be overridden by screen material at any time, and can contradict each other as much as the authors wish. -
It’s subjective personal preference man. It’s fine that you love it but you shouldn’t dismiss others’ opinion of it as trivial.

Always good to have more reviews, you never know when someone's deciding to buy.

I wonder if the wing joints could be tightened with polish and/or super glue, or are they inaccessible? That's my only qualm about this guy.

I would think pretty much the same changes made to create the VF-22S from Mac 7.

Thanks for the review! And welcome to MacrossWorld.

I'm... gonna go play with my Yamato -21.

Naw, it's a sore point for me too, but one among many. That's why I bowed out early.

When you transform into fighter mode with the FP on, the belly plates swap out with ones with fake gunpods because the real ones are too thick to clear the landing gear. I think that's the only partsforming afaik.

YF-21 is my favorite Valk and I’m pretty bummed. This just isn’t working for me - too many odd compromises - so no purchase. But good on those who do like it.

So, from an in-universe historical perspective (say, if in MacFrontier they showed a photo if it), would the SDF-1 as it takes off from Earth look like the DYRL version with Daedalus/Prometheus attached to it instead of ARMDs? -
Naw, I love Gerwalk.
