  1. Just an update: Put everything in their final positions, and popped in Transformers. I do like the results! Now, I need to get together some funds (ok, well, a lot of funds) to refurb my basement, and put a proper home theater in it. I've got an ideal room for it too. Nice and rectangular, with a drop ceiling. I'm thinking a projector, and a big screen.
  2. Wandered into my local value village, and I found a pair of Technics sb-a15's for $10 each. They looked good, and took a chance on them. Grabbed a used stero amp, and put it all together, and you know what? They blow away my TV speakers. And freak out my cat. A nice way to spend $100 ($20 for the speakers, $60 for the amp, and $20 for some speaker wire).
  3. Ahh... Kitbashing in 1:1 scale then. Gotcha.
  4. Franken-Hornet? Just what did they DO to it?
  5. Well, here in Ottawa, there aren't really any good cheap Mil-surplus stores. There's one in the Byward Market, but the prices are rather expensive. Good for patches, as they're cheap, but not for much else. Ebay, for me, can be hit or miss... But I did get the flightsuit for about $30, which wasn't bad (long on the sleeves and legs, however).
  6. True, but in order for me to actually use the ram properly, I'd need to get a 64 bit OS. Remember, Windows XP 32 bit edition (and all other 32 bit OS) can only see up to 3 GB of RAM.
  7. I can play that maxxed out no problem. It's rather surprising how long my current setup has lasted me. Core 2 Duo 8400 Win XP 2Gb RAM Radeon 4870 1 GB Aside from the videocard, which I updated a little over a year ago for Fallout 3, I've had the current setup since February '07. Not bad for 2 years. It seems that the game requirements has plateaued somewhat. I might get a LGA 775 Quad core, 2 more Gigs of RAM, and go to 7 64 bit within the next 2-3 months, if I find some good deals.
  8. Hey, give the guy some time. I mean, that whole getup wasn't cheap to start with... Heck, I've got a simple flight suit I put together a few Halloweens back to dress up as Major Kong, and I don't have a pit... I would like one, but I don't have the cash to actually put one together.
  9. You're kidding me. You mean this was actually given some serious thought?! Now THAT'S awesome!
  10. Just remember, Plasmas are also somewhat touchy when their new. I found that mine was VERY sensitive to temporary image retention when I first started using it. Now, about 200 or so hours of use in, it's not nearly as sensitive, as it takes longer for the retention to occur. Just remember to mix up your movies (or tv sources). Don't watch 2.4 to 1 ratio movies (letterbox) all the time, as you'll cause the top and bottom portions of your screen to age at different rates.
  11. Sadly, as awesome as that would be (and it would only be surpassed by the more awesome news of the F-14 being pulled out of retirement), it's just a silly week article on aircraft resource center. Still, pretty cool.
  12. There may be fit issues. You'll be best armed with having a look around your CPU socket, and noting anything that sticks up around it, and then, comparing it to what the coolers specs call out for (most websites will make note of this in the product information page). Usually, most coolers go straight up, and then spread out, rather than spread around at the base, so most of the time, you're ok. Just make sure where you buy your cooler from will take it back and give you your money back if it won't install in your computer. Oh, and depending on which cooler you go with, you may need to actually remove your motherboard to actually mount the cooler. Again, to stress, do your research first, then buy.
  13. You're probably OK. The worst you may have done is shorten the life of your CPU by a few years, which may not be a big deal, if you frequently update your PC's components. BTW, how is that Scythe anyways? I'm using a Zalman 9700, and while it's great, I ALWAYS wind up slicing my fingers to ribbons when I need to touch the damn thing...
  14. There's a small catch. Don't go too cheap on the CPU. Make sure it's fast enough to feed all the data to the videocard (IE, a Core Duo 8400 will work nicely). A slow CPU will hamper your videocard pretty badly.
  15. I saw that episode too, but, getting one of those, will require some serious cash. All you're going to get with that is a monitor. No tuner, no speakers. You'll have to provide your own.
  16. It has been for quite a while actually. The actual pixels ARE LEDs. It won't work for home use, however, as you'd need to be across the street in order not to see the pixels.
  17. Ah, yes, X-com. I love PSI. Especially PSI abuse... by me. Find one alien, PSI him, get him to find the next alien... You get the idea. Of course, when I first encountered PSI way back in the early 90's... I freaked out, badly, as my soldiers would turn around and shoot my guys...
  18. And... It's done. And I know the orange stripe on the tail is crooked (didn't see it until after I applied the micro set)... I might replace it either by painting the orange stripe, or by using a decal from the other viper that's on the way (it's going to have its stripes painted). Still it's a big kit, and looks pretty nice.
  19. The MPC can never catch a break, can it? Not that I'm saying it should...
  20. You forgot the other reason... It just looks cool. I'm gonna second the minority, and say that some quality toys of the mechs would be needed. I would buy at least one, just so my Yamatoes have something to beat up.
  21. Not bad. A little small for me, personally, but I really dig the Fuze. It's only a little bit bigger (but thinner), but I find the controls are easy to use, and the battery life is great (24 hours). It helps pass the long night shifts, as the in store music sucks...
  22. This is part of the reason why I use Tamiya paints. Sure, they're not as durable as other types of paint, but if you screw up, just dunk the parts in windex, and come back in about 15 minutes. Just a little light scrubbing with an old toothbrush, and a rinse, and you're back to a nice clean piece of plastic.
  23. Try the Sansa Fuze. It also plays FLAC. I just jack it into my computer with the cord (it's not a standard USB cord so don't lose it), and drag and drop stuff onto either the internal memory, or onto the microSD card that you could put in for more storage (up to 16 gb if I remember correctly).
  24. Just a pointer about the viper. Leave the kit in sub-assemblies. It'll make it MUCH easier to decal the thing up. I'm gonna test this theory on another viper I've ordered on E-bay... And paint it in a much lighter shade of grey to boot.
  25. Since I'm getting two, the answer is... BOTH!
