  1. Did some more building. Things to note: 1) The cockpit sidewall panels need to have the parts numbers sanded off, and the ejector pin marks filled (very easy however). 2) On the belly of the Viper there's some copyright info that needs to be sanded off. 3) There's sink marks on the nose of the viper, and on the engine intakes that are just behind the cockpit. Needs to be filled. 4) There's going to be some nasty seams, which may be a bit tricky to be filled, that are on the engine pods. 6) You'll need to construct a conecting rod so that the pilot (should you chose to use him/her) is actually holding a joystick that's connected to the viper. Some good things: 1) The resin pilot is awesome! Much, much better detail than the re-issue viper's pilot. 2) It's the Viper Mk2!!!!! 3) The landing gear looks pretty nice. 4) Comes with a stand that appears to have Earth's (our Earth's) continents on it. 5) Box notes that the Galactica, Viper Mk7 and Cylon Centurion (new type) are coming! All in all, considering what comes with the kit, it's a bargan for $30 (what I paid for it at the local shop).
  2. Put the F-14 aside for now to work on my Viper Mk 2! I don't think I've ever been this psyched for a kit. So far, it's going together pretty nicely. The manual is right about one thing: Test fit the heck out of this thing before you glue anything together!
  3. David! I'm shocked! You, calling a F-14 a "freak"?! I've never heard such language from you! My kit came with the F110 engines, not the TF-30s. I do plan on using those markings. It's what drew me to the kit in the first place. So, which parts should I use from what came with the kit? By your suggestions, I should skip using parts E21 in step 9 and in step 15 I should use the B parts instead of the N parts. I plan on doing an earlier version of the Super tomcat, so I should use the older style of gunvents (they're there too). I'm guessing the longer probe would be required too, as well as either the IF or TV chin pod. Edit: I was going over that F-14 book you sent to me David, and on page 71 is a nice shot of a F-14B in similar markings. On this one there's no chin pod, there's a tomcat logo on the tails, and it says F-14B on the tails instead of Super Tomcat... I think this is getting a little more complicated...
  4. I found this kit at my local hobby shop for a reasonable price, and I naturally picked it up and started building it. On this particular Tomcat, were the glove vanes deleted, or were they still present? They're called for in the manual (both open and closed), but I'm not sure, as only production F-14As have the vanes present. The B's I think don't have them, and I know the D's dont.
  5. I'm looking forward to this release. A playmate for my Kai! Now we need a VF-17, and a VF-11C... Heck, we need more VFs that ARE'T the VF-1, VF-19, YF/VF-21/22, or anthing that's been done to death.
  6. I hope that includes Toys R Us Canada... I really don't want this to wind up being a repeat of MP Starscream in Ottawa (Hint: He never showed)...
  7. A little ashamed to admit it, but I got a pirated version of System shock 2 off the web, and aside from no movies, it plays just fine. Odd. Looks like the installer might be the culprit.
  8. Yah, I didn't get professional because, for the extra Windows XP mode, it was an extra $30. I figured that if worse came to worse, I'd setup the computer for a dual boot, and switch back to XP if I needed to.
  9. I've got a windows 7 64 bit question: Is there any way to get the older games to run on it? I'm trying to get system shock 2 to work, and it's not being very nice... I've got Home premium of Windows 7. I'm tempted to partition my main hard drive and set the computer up for a dual boot... But I'd rather not.
  10. Perhaps the workers are assembling them, out of habit, and Yamato has to remind them not to assemble the Valks.
  11. Just a bump. According to HLJ, this has been delayed, again, to April. Kinda sucks, as I was looking forward to this. Oh well.
  12. You also forgot the YF and VF 21. Technically, it's the only valk without, what you call, kibble. Besides, as David and eguimon pointed out, the legs and arms serve a function in jet mode. The legs provide propulsion, and the arms provide aerodynamic smoothing. Even the head is fully functional in jet mode, as it can be used as a turret. Just watch the Max and Millia fight in DYRL, and you'll see him swivel the turret, in jet mode, to hit Millia. That massive amount of kibble is one of the reasons why I won't get Jetfire. Personally, I think the whole toy could have been engineered so that the kibble would either be reduced, or eliminated entirely.
  13. Excellent. Then at least I'll get one e-mail concerning payment for one of my Vipers (Culttvman shop). The other I ordered locally. You've seen the previews of the kit on the web, right?
  14. I've had mine on pre-order since last week. It's a good year for Galactica fans. I really, really want that viper Mk2. I would almost kill for it.
  15. Got my hands on Bludgeon. Gotta say, it's a nice figure. Now where's animated Arcee??? I hope I do manage to find one, preferably at retail price, and not scalper price.
  16. Of course, that's why you send in the Blue Angels first!
  17. If you're in a hurry, and you need the F-16s that badly, either it's going very badly, or somebody didn't do their job right. Besides, it would be a great boost in morale for the troops if the Thunderbirds showed up over the battlefield.
  18. What's with the Thunderbird doing with live bombs? I know they're supposed to be a fully operational squadron, in addition to their airshow displays, but I've never heard of the Thunderbirds going to war. Mind you, it would be pretty cool to see them in their airshow colours, causing all sorts of hell on the enemy, in a very acrobatic fashion. They would have a perfect operational record this way. The enemy gawks, and marvels at the impromptu airshow, and then for the finale, they go boom!
  19. Heh. I wonder if it'll fit in the giant eggs. I don't mind that it's been pushed back to March. It'll give my wallet a chance to recover a little bit from February.
  20. Pretty sure it has. I think the Jegans do at the beginning of Unicorn. Remember, a nuke in space is less dangerous (radiation is being ignored at the moment), because there's no atmosphere to produce the blast wave. Stay out of the fireball, and shield yourself from the radiation, and you can laugh it off. Actually, now that I think about it, I'm a little surprised that the GM exploding in the colony didn't actually blow the colony in two, or at least do more catastrophic damage to it.
  21. You've got to remember, that in later UC, armour didn't really matter much. Maneuverability was king. Beams usually penetrate anything in one shot, thus most MSes have tons of vernier fuel underneath the outer skin used to augment the AMBAC motion that MSes use to move about in space. I would imagine that it's rather... combustible. Plus there's probably all sorts of other things that react badly to being shot at on an MS.
  22. Remember, these are pieces of military hardware. Usually, they're more dangerous than their civilian counterparts. Example: F-14 with TF30 engines. If you don't fly the engines right, you might wind up flying a fireball.
  23. Yah, you got me there David. Obviously, I mean "going critical" in a very, very bad way. AKA Boom. Is it possible that the power from the reactor is derived by using the intense heat of the reaction to drive a small turbine... Say using some sort of closed loop using a type of gas? I'm thinking along the lines of a nuclear rocket (but closed, and the gas, after spinning the turbine, loops back to the reactor), if that makes any sense.
  24. I thought the reactor going critical was due to the interference that a beam weapon shot to the reactor causes. The reactor has been shot at before without beam weaponry, and it doesn't explode. In 8th MS team, Karen's Gundam was on its back and it couldn't shoot at the Dom without hitting the reactor (it was equipped with a beam rifle). Also, other mobile suits have been shot at with beams, had their vernier fuel explode, but the reactor didn't. It appears that a slug or high explosive round hitting the reactor and causing damage, just causes the reactor to fizzle out. Shoot it with a beam, and it suffers a runaway, causing the reactor to explode.
  25. Great episode. I'll watch it again when the subs are out, just so I can know what the heck they were saying!
