  1. LOL, yeah that too! I don't know about a Fallout movie. Fallout's strength is interactive entertainment. Don't get me wrong, the game is incredible and about as immersive as it gets, but the story is somewhat cliched and silly. The story makes for the best gameplay, but not really a stand alone narrative. I mean, the "Master" leading a Super Mutant army to take over the world...yeah, that's been done too much in various formulas. Having said that, I do believe Fallout possesses several story elements that would make an incredibly violent and narratively fresh story for a film script. The whole concept of the mutant sterility and the Master as a sympathetic character could be made into a very dramatically compelling story, especially with a properly motivated and complex main character. Needless to say, the atmosphere of Fallout would have to be translated well, otherwise it wouldn't work. And it sure would be nice to see raditation handled correctly in a sci-fi film. The Postman was downright awful. We will never associate that film with anything for the sake of our health
  2. Tactics was good for an action game. But Fallout put the "R" back in computer RPG. The exclusion was to it's detriment IMO.
  3. Fantastic! Kinda silly to be sure, but well worth the effort. I'd love to give it a "walk"
  4. Thin ice Ladic. Very thin ice
  5. No big surprise. Cheat codes, walkthroughs and editing, the three sure fire methods in gaming that turn fun into work, IMO.
  6. Speaking of Bloody Mess, how about the development history of the third Fallout game. I'm not really excited about the teaser shot. I won't be convinced it'll see release until it's actually on a shelf somewhere.
  7. I don't think relationships are as mystical as all that. Yes, some guys are just too uncertain of themselves with ridiculous notions of women so they don't get girls while some guys with confidence and attitude can attract all kinds of girls. But that's only some and there are few catch-all rules for real relationships, which is why giving relationship advice is such a hazard. Keep in mind there are all different kinds of women and men. Some guys are just great players, sometimes even in spite of their looks. Others are more "real" and not as flamboyant. It's just a fact that society promotes a good looking backside more than worthwhile traits that make others just as good or better mates. Some men find it easier to attract women because there is simply more of their type to choose. For some of us, finding the right girl can be a little different because we're different and there just aren't as many of our type to choose. It's hard out there for an atheist Also keep in mind the ever important factor of age. Young women and young men are easily swooned by attractive, confident and not necessarily suitable partners. As one get's older, that girl/guy that always looked so good looks less and less attractive once one has been burned several times. And lastly, don't forget there are some shallow women and men. A trophy girlfriend/boyfriend or a meal ticket/sex object is actually the only thing some people are looking for. So we can't be upset with them if they are content with that but we aren't
  8. Yikes! I really hope for the sake of some of you (and for our own gender) that these "thoughts" aren't what you really think of the opposite sex! I mean, no girl is gonna like you if you think so little of women. When was the last time you found "I hate men!" an attractive trait in a girl?
  9. Hehehe, another really old-school gamer I remember the fun, as well as the frustration, of Wasteland. As I mentioned before in this thread, "Peels off a final shot" was a source of constant annoyance, though it was part of the charm of the game world that helped make Wasteland so unique. I haven't touched that game since the years around its release. I'm curious how I would feel playing such an old title now. Sometimes really old games never go out of style with me but others just don't stick with me. Probably be annoyed more with the sound than anything else (BEEP, BEEP!)
  10. I'm going to assume this latest incident is why the flood control on the boards is an annoying two minute delay.
  11. Apocalypse didn't have a geoscape, more like a cityscape. Regardless, my criticism was directed more towards the battlescape mode where you could switch between real-time and turn-based.
  12. I'm surprised the suit actually looks good. The designers gave the suit a muscular appearance and yet they still managed to make the suit appear mechanized rather than just a leotard. I'm impressed with this design and I think the muted colors work well for a live action adaptation. Now only if the script and the actual direction itself are any good, this should be a win... *crosses fingers*
  13. To be honest, I dropped out after Terror From The Deep. It was such a blatant attempt to cash in by giving players just more of the same but with a facelift. And it was ridiculously hard, though I suppose now with my current Enemy Unknown skill level I might not find it so bad. Apocalypse is worth playing if you want more, but it's not so great that I went crazy over it. I didn't like the retro-style changes nor the bright primary colors which was really jarring when the game music tried to be spooky like the original in an environment that looked like SimCity. And despite the fact that the game engine worked, I don't care for the real time fighting. If I want to play real-time games, I have my real-time games. When I want turn-based, I want turn-based. I much prefer the grander scope and greater degree of control in X-COM:EU, even with it's dated graphics. To me, the X-COM franchise is much like the Star Control franchise or the Fallout franchise. They all had one really awesome game that demands inclusion in any credible "Best of" list, they featured one other game that was just "pretty good" and then either really lousy sequels or could-have-been vaporware projects. It's a shame, but after these experiences I really don't want to waste my time on games unless they are worth it. I moved on from those franchises and went to other games more worthwhile based on individual merit. But like you, I wish another good X-COM game would be made.
  14. Any more fun and we'd be guilty I noticed in your most recent posts you assaulted your first alien base. Which month did you first discover it? Which method discovered the base (X-COM agents or scouting with the Skyrangers after noticing activity in the are/notable increase on the graphs)? And when did ya destroy it? I think my first base came around month six and I let it operate until just recently, I think 4 months or something (I love raiding the Supply Ships for the alien bases, it's how I build up my elerium stores). I saw a bunch of UFOs in south east asia and knew something was going on (the graphs confirmed it), so I scouted with a Skyranger and two Interceptors for about 4 days and finally found Alien Base 1 in Singapore. I see you're using Blaster Launchers. I have some questions for you. I find that I never get a lot of ammunition for the Blaster Launcher. In all my bases, the ratio of Blaster Launchers to Blaster Bombs is 1:2 or at best 1:3. It's the only alien weapon in the game for which I have ever manufactured ammunition but do so only if I've already built everything else requiring elerium and have a large reserve. I still use the Rocket Launcher with Large Rockets up until the end of the game. I pull out Blaster Launchers only for three very specific missions: Alien Base Assaults, Ethereal Battleships and of course the Assault on Cydonia. Do you use Blaster Launchers in regular missions once you've researched them? Do you find you get more ammunition than I have described? Just in general, what have you got and where are you at in the game right now? Give me some details Mr. "I love the smell of dead Sectoids in the morning"
  15. Damn, I just got hit with no less than 7 UFOs in the span of one day! I downed: 1 Large Ethereal Terror ship in Australia 1 Medium Muton Infiltration ship in Indonesia 1 Small Muton Retaliation ship in Europe 1 Very Large Muton Supply ship in China 1 Very Large Sectoid Infiltration Ship in Japan 2 Small UFOs (one alien base scout and one retaliation mission) both of which are so small that either an Avalanche Missile or a Plasma Cannon resulted in each craft's complete destruction. It was wild. I had every base on the Geoscape sending out interception craft. Now there's five missions to do and I've got every carrier craft, except one, flying out to investigate the crash zones. It's now mid October. I actually stopped building bases about two months ago, but then decided I need Hyper-Wave tracking in the Pacific Ocean. So I built a base in Hawaii. My resources are just ridiculous. Seven bases, six of which are fully built with three hangars a piece and one squad of 10 experienced soldiers in each base (all outfitted in Power Suits and Flying Suits). Funding is $15 million per month and cash reserves are at $119 million. My PSI training is now into it's third month and I've now got some really adept PSI-Soldiers with PSI-Amps at all six bases, some of whom can even mind control Ethereals. Best PSI capable soldier is a 92 PSI Strength with a 57 PSI Skill. I've got two Avenger craft, two Firestorms and one Lightning (just for the heck of it, even though it sucks) plus one Hovertank/Plasma and two Hovertank/Launchers. I've got a stockpile of 3,353 Elerium spread across the six bases and before the day is over, I'll probably have another 100-300 more from all those downed UFOs I'm ready to do the final Assault upon Cydonia and I've researched absolutely everything. I think it might be overkill at this point, but I really want to have a complete 10 man squad of hardened, experienced PSI soldiers before I launch the final assault mission. Right now, some of my squads are so psionically powerful with just 3 or 4 PSI soldiers that the UFO missions are almost becoming a cakewalk. But I remember the final mission is two parts and really hard, so this time I'm going in with nothing less than enough firepower and psionic ability to level that base.
  16. I've never tried the X-COM editors. Not really a big fan. Maybe after I beat the game this most recent time, I'll try out XCOMUTIL just for a laugh. Its so much more fun building everything up. Once you get psionic soldiers, the revenge feels so good I like the name
  17. Aren't demos supposed to be released before the actual game? Metacritic is only listing the GamePro review so far and I don't trust GamePro. I'm waiting for GameSpot and PC Gamer to present their reviews.
  18. I'm not sure about the Vista thing, but the game better run with some really low system requirements cause those graphics blow. If the thing crawls on even a mid-range system, I wouldn't even bother buying it.
  19. HAHHAHA, totally understandable. We actually had a topic on MW many years ago that was more specifically about Valkyries and Girlfriends. It was generally accepted that any new girlfriend should be broken in with the Fighter mode first. Of course, one's best bet is to marry either a doll/plushy girl or an artsy girl. Of course, then you have to tolerate their gaudy looking hobbies too
  20. I haven't been through it myself, but I've never had a massive collection either. My collection is relatively small compared to the standard fare found among fandom and none of my girlfriends have had much reason to be concerned about them. However, I have to say with all honesty that I can understand the woman's point of view. I've seen collectors post pictures of their collections and the concept of "tasteful display" seems lost on most of these fellas. If I were a girl and saw some wall unit filled with hundreds of gaudy red/blue/yellow colored robots, I'd say a big "Hell no" too On the other hand, it's all about give and take. As long as you don't display an overwhelming horde of them and the particular colors of the toys don't stand out like a pimple in the room, it's only fair that your display pieces are displayed.
  21. I have to admit that after that opening video, my enthusiasm has been sapped. I'll wait for the reviews and go from there.
  22. HAHAHAHA I like this answer
  23. I like any of the multiple explosions in X-COM, including Gas Stations, UFO Bridges and Power Generator rooms in UFOs or Alien Bases. THe chain reaction of explosions never fails to entertain Here's a little trivia about my X-COM playing history: I've never captured a Cyberdisc or Sectopod "alive." I've only ever obtained interrogation information based upon researching alien medics. I know from all the guides I've read that players have captured live specimens, I'm just not sure how they do it exactly. Nah, the best feeling ever is "Ethereal Commander Has Panicked" followed shortly by "Mind Control Successful." It just doesn't get any better than that
  24. Saw this advertised on xcomufo.com. I've never been a portable gaming fan, so I didn't give it much attention. Sounds like I was better off
  25. Yeah, I don't know why that lame strategy keeps getting reprinted in every FAQ, walkthrough, guide and now the wiki. I feel like slapping whoever came up with that "solution."
