Mr March replied to azrael's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
*rant. you've been warned* I really hate these polls-of-the-moment. It's like reading MSN or some vapid pop music publication like NME. They try to pat me on the back or offer me approval based on their own benchmark for "pop culture cool" just because I'm watching something I enjoy. I like seeing Macross in the press as much as the next fan, but I want to see it for the right reasons; for being a good show with good characters and boundary breaking animation. Popularity for the sake of popularity is not my idea of a quality show deserving of recognition. If any of these top shows/characters have any virtues other that being what's currently on the air and/or popular, I'm not seeing it. As much as I'm loving Macross Frontier and virtually everything about it, I'll preclude the series/characters from any "best of" list until the show is complete and has proved itself worthy of being labeled a great anime series. -

Yes. I'd bet it's a gun, but it could just as easily be mechanized styling given the Frontier VF's similarity to the Aquarion designs. -

I'll likely need more Frontier in the future and I had a few Macross Plus shots in mind as well. But don't trouble yourself on my account. I appreciate the help with Frontier and most of what I'll need will be from there. Btw, do you know how to use FTP? I could upload some Zero for ya. -

It seems likely the VF-27 would have more than just the obvious center forehead gun. But at the same time, the new Valkyries follow a lot of motifs from Kawamori's Aquarion designs and those designs used plentiful cylinders mounted on the head units that gave the robots a internally mechanized appearance. They could just as easily be decorative for that purpose. -

Thank you so much Master Dex. You're a good man. Thanks for offering more. I may hit you up for some more but this is great for now. Can you take screen captures of other Macross shows as well? -

Can someone grab me some good screen captures of the VF-25 Battroid mode cockpit, from either episode 2 or episode 7? I think there's a few good shots of Ozuma in the Battroid mode cockpit. I'm especially looking for the shots where you can see the white-like translucent edges of the cockpit's frame. -
Yeah, we’ll quit the run around. I'm certain someone said how no one likes those.

That's splitting hairs mighty thin and a distinction not made until now. You may have had the best of intentions, but that's not how you came across. And from the responses it's clear most felt the same. There's being defensive (which goes both ways) and then there's recognizing smoke. As for the criticism, it wasn't constructive (and far too "general") until we pulled it out of you, which was my point. Nonetheless, I've spoken my constructive criticism as well and you can take from it what you will. Feel free to submit more specific help and thanks for enjoying the site.

DestroidDefender It's not too bad. Most fans mean well, but sometimes have very poor ways of expressing themselves. I appreciate the thanks and glad you enjoy the site. oreilly Yes, but you weren't specific and didn't say why. Also, you're posting on a public board, not an e-mail exchange. Your posts are public and you're in a thread dedicated to my website. You're going to find that "I wasn't talking to you" doesn't work as an excuse in this kind of forum. As for people taking the M3 more literally than they should, thats not for anyone to police. People are their own keepers. I won't speak for others, but I think they meant that the M3 is carefully researched, good for a fan website and useful 99% of the time even if it's not perfect. Lastly, the website is enjoyed by many, so try to keep that in mind when commenting on it. In case you're unware, your comments come across as very dismissive of the site, as if it's good for colored artwork but nothing else (especially toward the vast majority of work that is accurate). You're likely to draw a lot less ire and more support if you offer help rather than complain or tell others what to think. Nonetheless, in appreciation for your help I've corrected all the entries that made reference to specific companies and uploaded the new pages. Don't be shy with any other corrections if you're interested in helping some more. Kurisama Thank you very much. Make sure to keep visiting!

Well, there's only so many characters to ago around and you can't have a group of cannon fodder craft following around the main cast every episode. Keep in mind that Macross Frontier is an animated television series first and everything else second. Whatever works better within the confines of drama, pacing, clarity, simplicity, budget, editing and all the other production concerns are obviously going to take priority. The point is the creators are living up to the real robot genre and at least offering the appearance of a more realistic, multi-role, combined arms military, even if the type of audience for this show demands that the fictional SMS military needs to be staffed with a bunch of high school kids and one or two adults -
Okay oreillyrel, if you had specific examples of exactly what was wrong you should have written them out a half dozen posts ago instead of carrying on with these non-specific complaints and giving no reasons to support yourself. We basically had to jump through hoops and pry the answers out of you. Now, the OTEC designation is an error on my part, so it can be fixed. So, what companies that you've implied ARE listed in the texts? If there are none, that's fine, but let me know. Supply what information there is and say why you think something is wrong. Now, next question; if the figures for the VF-2SS are not in Entertainment Bible #51 are there any figures that are in that book? Further, are you certain the figures aren't referenced in another Macross II book? Are you of the opinion that the figures are just totally bogus and why? Again, help me out here. Also, make sure you look at the situation from my point of view: I sometimes have fans telling me my information is incorrect, but when they tell me why (they saw it on another website, a website which I know to be wrong) it's obvious I don't want to repeat a mistake by using their "correction". Lastly, no one claimed the Macross Mecha Manual was official (especially since the exact opposite is stated right on the main page) and no one claimed to be an expert, myself least of all. You're obviously under some mistaken impression. But the website can't become better if all you're going to do is throw complaints and not lift a finger to help. Other members here have often sent me factual corrections, pointed out spelling/grammar mistakes and even provided scans for me to use. And they didn't have to be interrogated to do it. Moral of the story: you have a rare opportunity here where the website owner is available to engage fans and site visitors in the interests of making a better site, so be more specific and get to the point. No one likes to be run around.

Macross has already featured mecha-sized clubs (the Destroid Spartan's baton), bayonets (the VF-11 anti-armor bayonet) and knives (VF-25 combat knife). If you count Macross II, it's had scythes as well Personally, I don't see any problem with a sword if it fits the story Macross Frontier wants to tell. Macross is certainly in no danger of abusing the Gundam staples and at this point such a weapon would simply be yet another example of a theme that has run throughout the franchise. Besides, if we fans can suffer past absurdity like Sound Boosters and guitar controls, I'll take a sword any day -

I know it's a bit of a stretch, but Klan could be one of the larger Zentradi, like Britai and Bodolzaa http://www.new-un-spacy.com/miscellaneous/...arison-dyrl.gif Klan is shown as a good head shorter than Mikhail's VF-25G. In the size comparison above, Britai is shown as even larger than a VF-1 Battroid. If Klan was Britai's height, she would be close to the correct size as seen in Macross Frontier when compared to the VF-25 Battroid. It's not sexy, but it works -

A sniper Valkyrie is not actually a problem; it's specialized capabilites is a point in its favor. Real militaries use Combined Arms that consist of all kinds of vehicles and weapons in a combined force to achieve the most effective combat operations. Mikhail's VF-25G would be less effective at shorter range combat; that's the point, it trades in short range combat for long range superiority. The Valkyries are setup up like armor "fireteams"; the VF-25F fighters skirmish, VF-25G fighters are long-range snipers and VF-25S Full Armor fighters are heavy fire support. VF-25F = gunman armed with a submachine gun VF-25G = rifleman armed with a sniper rifle VF-25S Full Armor = grenadier armed with grenade launcher -
I'm really confused. First off, the Macross Quarter entry on the Macross Mecha Manual has virtually no stats at all. Also, the Macross Quarter is NOT a New Macross Class vessel; the Macross Quarter is a totally new class of ship. Second, the statistics for all the Macross 7 fleet ships (Einstein, Hollywood, Mark Twain, Sunnyflower, Three Star, West Point) are all official numbers taken directly from japanese art books, as are the translated text descriptions. In fact, many of the numbers for length and displacement are written in english within the original japanese publications, so I can confirm they are 100% accurate. And like I said above, not even the Macross Compendium has yet translated these source materials, which is why they are not on that site (a rare example where the M3 has jumped just a little bit ahead of the Compendium). The statistics are official nonetheless; see the following picture... Exhibit A Now regarding the Entertainment Bible #51, I've relied upon translation help for that book which I don't own myself. But if you can confirm that certain figures are not official, I'll certainly bring it to the attention of the fans assisting me in translations. However, since you were in error about the recent Macross 7 ships I have to ask that you be more discriminating. We cannot discount figures out of turn just because they may have appeared earlier on old RPG websites. Some RPG figures MAY or MAY NOT be accurate japanese translations and they have to be debunked on a case-by-case basis. Which is why I've ignored any and all RPG websites in building my siote. The source information (via the Macross Compendium) is the only 100% accurate source we can rely upon. I've used the MC for my site and not used any RPG book or RPG stats in the creation of the Macross Mecha Manual (as far as I'm aware). The offical length of the VF-1 Valkyrie is 14.23 meters; that number appears on my website because it's officially correct, NOT because some RPG website also contains the same figure. It's important to understand the difference.

The Macross Frontier section is ovbiously a continual work-in-progress, so it's understandably incomplete and filled with some basic information only (and speculations are indicated as such). The recent Macross 7 additions were translated from official japanese books. The Macross II information was taken from the Entertainment Bible #51. I'm not sure what you're referring to specifically, but if you can assist in the translations or debate the accuracy, that would be a big help.

cyde01 Yeah, the machinations are just driving me nuts. I'm still hooked on the "internal faction" theory. I'm not ready to write off Leon, but perhaps his involvement is only incidental. Perhaps he's being used by Mr Bilrer. At any rate, it's clear there are plenty of holes in internal NUNS security. There's plenty of unauthoried movement going on and plenty of players are involved. Grace sure seems to be much more than she was before and now the Macross Galaxy connection is starting to make sense. I'm getting the impression either the Vajra are deliberate enemies possibly made by the Macross Galaxy fleet or an experiment gone wrong that the Macross Galaxy fleet is trying desperately to cover up lest their cybernetic experiments be shown as going too far (hence, they risk being deemed illegal and shut down?) d3v I agree. The technological disparity between modern fighters is not going to be some broad difference that creates an invulnerable super machine. Macross has always accurately portrayed the differences in performance parity as just that. Even the initially "invulnerable" Vajra were found to be not quite so invulnerable. -

Fade Rathnik I agree, which is why I like the term "convenient space" Master Dex Yeah, TOS was before any pretensions were made about the tech. IMO, it was much better off without the pseudoscience papabear I wonder if perhaps the Vajra have a link to super dimension space, much like the Protoculture's old "Evil" series Zentradi, with super dimension organs and all? grss1982 Yeah I noticed that one as well. Looks like valkyrie sniper rifles have been around for a long time. This isn't without prescedent though. Numerous heavy guns have been part of Macross since DYRL's Double Beam Cannon on the VF-1S Strike Valkyrie, then continued with weapons like the YF-19 Heavy Weapons Cluster, the VF-11 Protect Armor Long-Range High-Piercing-Round Gun Pod and the VF-17 Beam Gun Adaptor. And great catch on the VF-27's knife shield! I never noticed that until you mentioned it. It appears possible that blade runs the length of the shield, perhaps actually being more the size of a machette or short sword. -
The Macross Mecha Manual is an unofficial fansite and will always remain as such, so it is not meant to be absolutely, totally, 100% perfect (and this is stated on the website explicitly). It's not always possible to write readable vehicle profiles that strictly adhere only to known facts, particularly when no such facts exist. When some creative liscense is used it's typically done in good faith or tongue-in-cheek and largely limited to what occurs in the anime productions themselves. When unofficial information is added, I make every effort to distinguish it. As for the statistics, yes, there are a few rare examples of additions which aren't necessarily "official" (such as missile counts for some of the armored/super systems) but 99% of all the statistics on the M3 are taken directly from the Macross Compendium and are all canon. It's also important to note that there are official statistics and texts now included on the M3 that previously had no english translations. These were part of the last major update and include most of the Macross 7 fleet ships (Einstein, Hollywood, Mark Twain, Three Star, West Point) as well as all of the Macross II section. Very special thanks go out to Macross World members cyde01 and Seto Kaiba for translating and obtaining translations for these profiles.
