I've watched and owned a lot of anime in the past 20 years, but Macross and all it's sequels (especially DYRL, Plus & 7) will always be the number one anime franchise for me. The story, mecha designs, fight scenes, characters, background music and songs all seem to gel together for me much better than in any other anime. I generally tend to watch mecha anime over other genres and prefer anime with a more serious tone to it. That's not to say I don't watch other types of anime, I do, but 'Real Robot' type mecha anime will always my favourite. Here's a list of my non-Macross personal all-time favorites: - Blue Gender, TV series. Bubble Gum Crisis OVA. Megazone 23 Part 1, Movie. Borgman, TV Sevies. AD Police, OVA. Beserk, TV series. Wicked City, Movie. Jin-Roh, Movie. Perfect Blue, Movie. Char's Counter Attack, Movie. 0080 War in the Pocket OVA. 08th MS Team, OVA. Laputa, Movie. Nausica, Movie. Guyver, OVA. Ledgend of the Galactic Heros, TV series. Akira, Movie. Combatter V, TV series (the only super robot anime I like). A few animes that nearly, but don't quite make my all-time favourites list include: - Orguss, TV Series. Mospeada, TV series. Gall Force (various OVAs). VOTOMS, TV series. While I've also enjoyed other more recent hit series such as GITS SAC 1 & 2 & Cowboy Bebop I wouldn't count them amongst my favorites. Certain fan-favourites that seem to be popular with the masses, such as Evangelion & Zeta Gundam, I think are way over-rated. Graham

Had to unlock this topic to reply. I'm not Chinese but my wife is, and she eats anything she wants for breakfast, but usually either toast, serial, fruit, or sometimes noodles. Yay, just got the Mac Plus arcade game to work. I'd downloaded the wrong version of MAME yesterday. It was a case of not RTFM (or in this case JBO's instructions) carefully enough. And wow, is it difficult to play using the keyboard arrow keys. Anyway to get it to work with the mouse? Graham

Heh, I was doing OK, up until this part. For some reason when I tried to run MAME, the command prompt window wouldn't let me type anything and kept closing on me automatically!!!!!!!! Surely somebody must have made some more user friendly software by now.........sigh. Graham

Valk toys (or any toys) on display on a shelf do pick up a lot of dust over time. Once the dust works it's way into the panel lines it can be difficult to get out. Just wiping with a cloth will usually not do the trick. I had several 1/65 scale Bandai VF-17D/S and VF-19S/Kai toys on shelf display for several years and they got really dusty. The cleaning method that worked for me was to completely disassemble the toys, fill a largish bowl with warm water and dish washing detergent, soak the parts for a minute or two, then take a soft tooth brush and gently scrub each part, then rinse the parts under the tap to get off the soap. Then it was just a case of drying each part and reassembling the toys. The toys came out looking as good as new. You could probably do this without disassembing the toys, but I decided to disassemble them as the dust had really worked it's way into all the joints. I now consider myself an expert in disassembling/reassembling the Bandai Macoss 7 toys The best thing is don't display your high-end collectors toys on an open shelf, get a good display cabinet to protect them from dust. Simple answer, Japanese mecha designers are more talented Graham

(Edited topic title, so 'Valkyrie' is now spelt correctly). First choice would be Yamato's upcoming 1/60 scale VF-0S, it's amazing and actually superior to the 1/48 VF-1 in a lot of ways. Second choice should be a Yamato 1/48 scale VF-1 with both FAST Pack set and GBP Armor parts, so some days you can display it with the FAST Packs on, and then other times wearing the GBP armor. As for the color and head style of the 1/48 VF-1, that's up to you and depends on your personal preference. For myself, I would choose either the VF-1S Hikaru, VF-1S Roy or VF-1J Hikaru in that order. All are fairly easy to find at the moment. Graham

No, I didn't buy any toys or models in the end. Blackaces bought 1 toy, I just gave a mini-review on his toy in the Eureaka 7 thread. Although I sorta like the anime, I don't like the mecha designs enough to want to own the toys or models or an art book! Graham

Calling the VF-0 anorexic and using the above side-by-side lineart pics for comparison is being a bit unfair to the VF-0. Although in the above pics, the VF-1 and VF-0 appear to be the same size, this is not the case. The above pics are not in scale to each other and in fact the VF-0 is actually much larger than the VF-1. See the pic below for a correct in-scale comparison of the VF-1 and VF-0. Far from being anorexic, the VF-0 looks like it could easily kick sand in the face of the VF-1. Graham

The only art I really have interest in is the Macross Zero line art as there is so little of that published. The Macross and Macross Plus art will probably be the same as in half a dozen other art books already and I have no interest in the Aquarion, Eureaka 7 or other stuff.
