Looked for the compilation book today, but couldn't find it yet in stores here in Hong Kong. I've got it on order from Amazon Japan anyway. I might head over to the book floor at Sogo (big Japanese department store) tonight or tomorrow to see if they have it, as they have a huge manga section. Graham

I just picked up the new June issue of Shonen Ace, containing chapter 5 of the Macross Frontier manga. In this month's issue Macross Frontier has pride of place on the cover, as well as being the first story when you open the cover. Previously it's usually been printed somewhere in the middle of the phone book size volume! Scan of the cover is attached. I won't be able to start the scans of the manga until Tuesday night (HK time) though, due to work commitments. Not too much action this time, except for a little at the front and end of the chapter. Looks like lots of character development going on. For mecha fans, there is a nice color pic of a VF-171 changing gunpod magazines, which I thought was nice. Graham

The impression I got when watching the episode is that the red Vajra is fold capable. But if some sort of ship delivered the red Vajra, then it is probably still there hidden in the asteroids somewhere as no fold out reaction was detected. Graham

I've noticed that in the series opening animation and also in some of the commercials that aired before the Decuture edition was shown, the VF-25's weapons appear to be much more effective at taking out the red Vajra than they do are the actual show. Graham

I just think they take they whole 'big eyes' thing to new extremes of ridiculousness in 00, especially for the main character. IMO, he looks like a human Speilberg type ET hybrid. Graham

Quite happy with the quality of the Gattai subs for ep 4. They seem to be getting better with each episode. Graham

Too early to decide on a favorite character. Need to see more. I'm liking them all so far. Graham

I'm currently using VLC player for the Anime In Action version and CCCP's Media Player Classic to watch the Gattai versions. Graham

Yep, the rotatating radar dish is monted on the dorsal surface of the fighter/back of the battroid. The ELINT fin is mounted on the ventral surface of the fighter/left arm of the battroid. This is much more practical IMO than having the ELINT gear mounted on the FAST packs ala the VE-1 and means that the RVF-25 does not lose any of it's ELINT capability in an atmosphere, when it is not using Super Packs. I really don't like the 00 style of character design, or the characters themselves. Heck, there's a whole list of things I didn't like about 00 (pretty much everyting, but especially the character design/behavior & the mecha designs and fight choreography (so boring compared with Frontier). But any way, this is a Frontier thread, so enough about 00. Graham

Oh OK, I get you, the name of the VF-25. I watched the first 5 eps of 00 fansubbed, but then gave up. There was absoutely nothing I liked about the show, well, except for my namesake character. Graham

Action junkies be prepared for some possible cold turkey. I hope I'm wrong, but I have a feeling based on the next episode preview shown at the end of episode 4 and also the manga that the next 1 or possibly 2 episodes are mostly going to be character driven with little to no action. This is just my guess and I hope I'm wrong though. Graham

Good, point, I hadn't considered a long recharge time. I'll have to study the raw again and see if she fires the shoulder cannon earlier in the battle or not. I don't think so though. I think she was just using the arm guns or maybe the chest guns previously. I guess there is the possibility she was startled by the lack of effect of the shot, but as I posted earlier, you would have thought that SMS would have had an after action report on the previous few days battles with the Vajra and they would have learned from Mikhail's mistake of assuming a single head shot would put down the red Vajra, and made it standard operating procedure to target the red Vajra with multiple high-powered shots. Oh, and I'm the only one to wonder why Klan and only Klan was carrying live ordnance (at least in her missile launchers and shoulder cannon) during a training battle? I didn't get the feeling that the Vajra countermeasures were like a forcefield. To me, they looked more like an organic writhing mass of tenticles. Graham

Have to watch the raw again, but I thought it was Mikhail, who asked for the "Long Range Pack". I take the long range pack to mean the standard Super Pack, with the addition of the sniper rifle, i.e for long range fire, instead of the standard gun pod. I think the ELINT gear is standard on Luca's RVF-25 and it is also fitted with normal Super Packs in the episodes we have seen so far. Graham

Fantastic 4th episode. Some good character development and great action. Lots of fan service (which is nice to have ocasionally), but nothing too extreme. Alto was damn lucky that the Zentradi cannon still worked after so long floating in space. I wonder why Klan only fired her shoulder cannon point blank at the red bug one time. You would have thought she would have learned from Mikhail, that one shot is not often enough. If she had fired a quick second follow up shot immediately after the first she would probably have taken out the red bug. Years ago when I went through the Glock instructors course, we were tought to keep shooting until the target is down. if you just shoot once and stop to observe the result of your shot, there is a high chance that you will end up injured or dead if your opponent is still capable of returing fire. far better to keep on firing until the opponent is no longer a threat. Hopefully, SMS will learn from these two incidents and keep shoot the red Vajra more even if at first they appear dead. My one nitpick with the episode is that I don't think Bobby had nearly enough time to do such a a skillful a make up job on Alto. I wish my wife was that quick with her make up! And I don't understand why some of the male MWers here are complaining about the big breasts in this episode? Are you men? Graham

What is this "rap" you speak of? Don't you know that the only types of music that really exist are rock, progressive rock, heavy metal and Macross music (and some 80s' pop). Anything else only exists as a mass group delusion, sort of like any Alien movie after Aliens, or any Highlander movie after the first one! Graham
