This thread is more about Robotech.com members than Robotech itself.
I'd have to argue that rt.com members and fans at the moment are the only people making an effort to keep Robotech going. The lengths they go to execute this brings its share of criticism to the series because of the similarities to how HG originally made Robotech at the beginning and the closeness of certain fans to the creators to the point of molding the direction of the series as they see it. Heck, they hired a couple of them blurring the line between fans and creative staff further. As I heard from one blogger a while back "The Future of Robotech IS in the Hands of It's Fans," not Harmony Gold.
-
I think he was a Macross fan trying to do his best Doug Bendo impersonation.
That's not to say he wasn't annoying as all git-out, though, 'cuz he was.
I'm surprised Doug hasn't heard about it yet, unless Plus is Doug. There's got to be a show in the works just to spew profanity at the fan sullying his rep.
By now people in the fandom should really be asking what the hell is going on with Robotech if Captain JLS decides to go.
-
I suddenly have the urge to see Trekkies III made sometime in the future. Imagine, casual people cool about being Star Trek fans.
-
Now that is a damn shame... JLS was one of the few popular Robotech bloggers who wouldn't let himself be used as a mouthpiece for Harmony Gold, and he gave up on his project out of frustration with the franchise's lack of motion.
A chilling thought came to mind; from what I know Captain JLS leaving marks the end of the last blogger and neutral personality that offered consistent commentary for the fandom. That only leaves Justy Ueki of RDF Underground, who still occasionally does podcasts. But then there's
The Robotech FanThe Dougbendo Show, who will probably be talking about Robotech forever. Let's face it, the show is more about his ego than anything, but he's the only one left willing to talk about it constantly now. Until people learn what kind of person he is, he may get all the attention of newer fans online as THE vocal personality of Robotech by default. But then again, he's been around for years doing his thing and tarnished his reputation by now. People might hate him, but if they want more besides posting on forums or going to conventions, they'll be forced to put up with him for now.

Captain JLS of the Roboblog has quit. His final commentary on the series in the link.

Roger can't post for some reason, but he asked I offer his story to this entire mess.

Having heard about the Mospeada publication idea a while back but not knowing what happened to it until now, that whole thing was surprising. The problem revolved around Harmony Gold being ambiguous... again. Everything they touch turns to crap, doesn't it? I agree, Roger probably doesn't deserve flak after being used like that.

Dominic Monaghan was on The Soup on Friday promoting the film, or Lost, I'm not really sure. I couldn't find a thread about Lost, so might as well put it here anyway.

Well...that blog entry of BoK is from 2004...maybe he's grown up a bit since then?
But it's interesting that he tries to justify his racist comment to areaseven by saying that A7 was racist first...
It's hard to believe that they would hire someone whose past would make him an equivalent to a Dougbendo today. Even more so if they keep things like that public online for everyone to see and use. Skeletons like that usually hurt people's professional reputations, especially if they're in PR or a position of authority in a certain community. And here I thought the current Robotech crew was filled with normal people. What, can't HG hire people with standards, professionals, or well adjusted individuals? Instead they settle for mostly fans who may have grown up like you said, Gubaba, but are generally no better than all the other fans excessively hating on them.

If this is true, is he serious? This is the kind of guy who now represents Robotech?
Also watch out, FanPlus now knows of Macross World.

Darn, I thought the movie was going to parody other fandoms including Star Wars.

there's seven all together, each sent with different prints so you don't know which one you are going to see. I saw the one with Styker walking until the military picked him up for questioning. Basically it seems like all the endings except for the Deadpool one suck and are boring and add nothing to the overall story of any character.
Reminds me of what happened with the Clue film with Tim Curry from 1985. It had 3 possible endings you could see, but some theaters at least announced which one they had. Eventually, all of them were put together for the video/DVD release, which is probably going to happen here. But those were funny, so it didn't matter as much. I guess Fox wanted people to watch it again in different theaters to increase revenues or something.
-
If only David Hayter was involved in the film's development maybe it could have been better.

I rewatched DYRL and wondered, what if they dubbed this in english and used robotech songs?
There was an edited dub made years ago that didn't turn out as well but was released in the U.S. as Clash of the Bioroids. As for a version with Roboech songs, leave it to the fans.
-
Macross on the other hand has a lot of insert songs that are essential to the show and removing it is quite impossible (unless you do it the RT way with songs like We Will Win and Stage Fright ~ugh). So if they decide to play macross 7 in the US I think song royalties (or an equivalent) are included.
There are already legitimate English versions of some of the songs from Macross 7 that could be used for a U.S. release, but there are reasons inside and outside the series universe that would make them difficult to use. Still, they'd probably be better than any new tunes from RT.
-
Is there a running joke about Lynn Kaifun from the Macross TV series that I missed? Of course he's a jerk, but on the rt.com there's this small unusual following for his Robotech version, K.I.S.S. or something along the lines of Chuck Norris or whatever, that they joke on about all the time. Is it something that only exists there?

RAW interviews and ep 1 and 2 for the series posted on Kadokawa anime youtube account:

coupled with the fact that the show is more than a decade old... (selling anything that isn't bright and flashy and pandering to kids these days is almost impossible.)
Animeigo is the only company I can think of, in the U.S. at least, that would seriously consider licensing shows that old. They would probably treat it well if the excess baggage didn't get in the way of it getting released.
-
When you look at it, they're basically being run by a bunch of generation X fanboys, whose talent isn't above that of say, your average fanfiction writer. I wonder if these guys realize how inferior their product is compared to Frontier (for example), or do they all see themselves as modern day American Hideaki Anno's?
It must be part of that Running the Asylum wave that's happening to franchises, but they're behind the times and appear to have brought the series to a complete halt. However, they still think they have enough influence over other companies to have an advantage.

Sigh, I kinda have regrets about watching this, but now I know Kevin has been in the industry for a while now.
Everybody, the/a voice of Robotech:
-
Oh, you don't know the half of it. On the old MW forums, he was constantly shooting his mouth about how RT was supposedly superior to everything else. Oftentimes, I bagged at his poor grammatical skills. Then one day, he posted a racist comment towards me, which infuriated the rest of MW and got him banned immediately.
That gives a whole new meaning to that avatar he uses on rt.com. It always did look a little prickish. That would also make him a total sell out if he's cool with all the crap HG's been pulling. They must pay him enough to keep smiling about it.
-
Simply because he's Kevin McKeever. Nobody posts racial comments and gets away with it like he does (except maybe on the old MW forums).
He had a filthy mouth before getting hired by HG?
-
Gosh, this troll/fan has been around bothering a lot of people for a while now. I'm not complaining. It's just another guy embarrassing the fandom, nothing new from that.

Well, compare his writing to the real class act. The only thing that's similar is probably the borderline prejudice this new guy shows.

After reading RobotechFanPlus's comments I just get this gut feeling he is Doug Bendo.
I thought about that too, but I doubt. This guy can actually spell words correctly and his youtube account labels him coming from Turkey. Unless he's gotten smarter since his awol life it might not be him. Besides, he REALLY hates the current Robotech crew to ever troll them like that.
EDIT: Actually, maybe it is a joke, but someone else.
Robotech and HG License Debates
in Hall Of The Super Topics

We pretty much got through much of that in the older thread. There's not much else we can talk about until HG posts news about their developments, but you know how ambiguous they tend to be about their future.
For all the comics, novels, and animated projects like the Sentinels and Shadow Chronicles made, I thought it was a case of professionals contractually obligated to make content for Robotech. They did the bare minimum to make the stuff have that Robotech feel, whatever that means, and got their money. Judging from the content and reception by fans, many weren't paid enough or have enough time to care what they were doing. To tie it in with future projects, they might be handled the same way for salaries and potential profits.
