  1. Fortunately, that's a McKinneyism, and even the fans gave up trying to shoehorn that crap into the continuity. Most of them treat the McKinney novels as borderline fan-fiction, due to their often nonsensical departures from the TV series.

To be fair, from what I've heard they did try to bring in some character development not found in Macross, although some of it can be considered TMI and fan disservice material. For example, Britai got into a relationship with someone and it may have been too explicit in the novels.

And does anybody know the whole story of what happened with Minmei in the novels? They made it very clear that the best relationship she was ever in was always with Rick. It was also clear from her and other characters' treatment that they mattered more in the Macross era.

But that stuff about Robotech III seems excessive. Geez, they really wanted to keep Rick Hunter alive and past his prime for narrative purposes.

  2. What work around? It comes loaded with 16 gigs of flash memory, you can buy a 16 gig memory stick for your 3000, and use it just as you would a go.

Just a theoretical event; if the Go somehow becomes the standard PSP system, what happens to all the UMD games and movies I bought if I can't play them on it? Will I have to buy them again as a download if they move even further away from the medium?

  3. In the Robotech Universe WWIII consumes the world in a nuclear apocalypse several days after the SDF-1 vaporizes to pieces in the atmosphere, and the Zentradi, Masters, and Invid commit mass suicide when they discover their whole reason of existence is now in ashes. Zor sreams dam you Protocultrure! This isn't how the circle is supposed to end! as he fades from existence.

With time travel involved at the end, wouldn't that make Robotech a convoluted xanatos gambit started by Zor or his cloned relative something and Minmei?

  4. 4. If humanity did make due with Fusion technology before using Protocultre fuel cells in the New Generation, then losing the Protoculutre Matrix on earth wouldn't be an issue just pull out the old fusion engines out of storage or build new ones.

That would've made a good allegory to the oil crisis in real life if they followed through with it better in Shadow Chronicles. Protoculture was a rare fuel source in Robotech, right? Yet somehow from secondary material they were able to spread humanity through space, maintain an armada and/or at least send a task force to fight other aliens in another part of the galaxy with the only producer they had.

  5. As far as the VF-1 is concerned, what has the rt world done differently with specs on it compared to the Macross canon? I'm curious, cause I simply never researched this in depth.

I have no idea what the official story is either, but there are complications with it or something. They are either fueled by fusion reactors or Protoculture fuel. And then there's the extra stuff from the novels and RPG books.

  6. Most of Treiz's gripes about Frontier is that he thinks the show relies on too many cliches and homages, despite the fact that most of the homages have different outcomes from what originally happen.

I remember Shadow Chronicles relying on similar cliches and homages, but they had to work around certain issues and with the rest of it not completed yet it wasn't executed as well. Plus, Frontier actually had the privilege to do those homages because it was an anniversary show and it all originated from Macross' roots anyway.

  7. why would they care about what a bunch of overcritical old farts stuck on the past think of an 80's show

they are making big bucks on our melancholy, maybe if we weren't buying all the broken low quality crap they keep shelling out they'd be having a hard time and then listen to us

if they do check, all I can say is that it's to laugh at us

This site haven't become like 4chan yet, has it?

  8. Funny about Treiz...I first heard about him when he tried to argue with DougBendo about whether or not the SDF-3 would in reality have fallen into the black hole or not (can't recall who won, though...the whole thing was pretty painful) and then as the guy who posted a negative review of every episode of Frontier. Some of his points were valid, most were negative for negativity's sake.

For die-had fans, isn't that the standard response to any new Macross material released specifically because it's not labeled Robotech? It might also be a personal bias, because he's totally fine with everything not Macross, even new Gundam and new Speed Racer (film included). Anyway, he might have been screwing around with Doug just for kicks too.

I don't think we'll have to worry about Chronicle translations being pilfered to bolster RT, they seem content with what they already have, and what they can steal from RobotechResearch and SteelFalcon where the VF-1 is concerned.

Who knows? I remember MEMO mentioned wanting to do something along those lines before. If HG continues to keep quiet about Robotech, a new or enthusiastic fan is bound to get the "brilliant" idea to retcon the material into Robotech anyway for completeness sake.

  9. Nah, these days they've gone back to the old standby of trying to divorce Robotech from its origins. Just look at that damn fool Treiz... trying to claim that even Harmony Gold's official line on the mecha of the series is wrong because it's based off of the Japanese specs.

Sounds like he cares more about pushing your buttons than getting into debates, Seto. Your responses are always informative, but he seems to take more pleasure in screwing with you than anything. I'm surprised you even bother going back there from time to time if they want to be that way, and not even throw down warnings or the ban hammer for that crap.

  10. Wait, they were reliable once?

To fans that hanged to every word from HG and Palladium's spokesperson or "mechanical expert's" mouth, yes, but most of us know better. Now almost all of the experts are gone, even Macek, and the people left rarely talk about the specifics people want to know again and again. They're there more for the fans' business than anything. Meanwhile, fans are left rummaging through an official website that's been stagnant for years or buying overpriced RPG books and toys with the same quality they've always had.

Then there's the option to learn Japanese to understand official books that may have little to no bearing with Robotech canon, but gives the universe it a more modernized, fluid appearance. But even then the die-hards still refer to it as "non-canon" or "an alternate continuity" until official Robotech experts come around and put a label on it. Like the story they're still hanging on to is any more legitimate. So what's the point?

  11. Oh, the moderators there haven't kept it a secret that they want to get rid of me.

Seifrietti Weisse told me flat out that he considers me the site's worst troublemaker, and that he thinks the site would be a lot better off without me. I'm fairly sure Maverick_LSC is in the same camp, which means the only moderator who's really not actively looking for an excuse to ban me is MEMO1DOMINION.

Besides MEMO1DOMINION who actually attempts to do something for the series and fandom, most of the people there seem like useless ungrateful fans. Their situation may be unique, but would it kill them to contribute something more worthwhile besides X vs. Y or why didn't G do R despite being a borrowed animation problem? They must rely on people like Seto in gathering/translating material about Macross so that they can give it the Robotech treatment or some strange association with Robotech and take pride in keeping it relevant. You could say they're just using you to get all the "inside information" they're too lazy to find themselves, because Harmony Gold and Palladium aren't as reliable anymore.

You know the saying "Ignorance is bliss," maybe they're just waiting to get rid of you and eventually call everything labeled "Macross" as non-canon and other nonsense as soon as Robotech makes its triumph return.

  12. Nope, he didn't. And "Protoculture" doesn't, I believe, become a fuel until the Mospeada generation.

Didn't they decide to turn Khyron into a Protoculture fuel addict rather than a guy who loves booze in the later episodes and novel? Maybe Bodolzaa needed a wired boost after seeing Rick and Lisa kiss.

  13. Does this article circa 2002 still apply to what's happening with HG and Robotech today?

    http://www.robotech.com/news/viewarticle.php?id=87

I assume this was written to avoid potential backlash from the Animeigo release of Macross TV series and etc. Since then a lot has happened to potentially change this stance while they won't admit it (Shadow Chronicles), making the Hollywood route a last resort move if the legal issues really did have an effect on the rest of their plans.

  14. Also, do we know what HG's main source of income is these days? DVD's, TV rights, merch? Is anybody in the world still broadcasting Robotech?

    Taksraven

They still strive on DVD, toys, and RPG books. That's the only recent merchandise they still sell and come out with new stuff for the franchise.

It might be still showing on the AnimeNetwork. Recently, they made a fuss about Robotech being shown again on SPACE: The Imagination Station in Canada. It doesn't sound like a big deal to me, because by now wouldn't people get sick of watching the same 85 episode show ad nauseam?

About Seto Kaiba's post: It makes you wonder how much of the Robotech dilemma HG told Tobey Maguire and co. before they handed over the rights. It might help the LAMR they're now stuck with promoting over other works if they finally go over the details regarding the legal issues that could make or break everything.

  15. Oh don't even start with that Slyphide bullcrap. That's the worst example of a delusional Robotech fan. The guy thinks it can transform just because the narrator made a mistake.

Fans definitely have issues surrounding Robotech in general.

At least that's what I got from the online community of a dozen or so die-hards who apparently can't stop talking about it.

  16. Regardless, the vast differences in these three militaries is made even more confusing (compounded by those damn three-letter acronyms Robotechies keep making up) when you start to realize they all do the same damn thing. And that thing is absolutely everything a sci-fi military does in these kind of shows. Seriously all these branches have such entirely non-specific goals that its pretty stupid.

The Army of the Southern Cross might have had a specific, yet flawed, goal in the military. They were meant to defend Earth from alien invaders and uprisings, but it was kind of stupid when they relied too much on ground mecha while the generation before was more diversified. They did have air mecha though, even one "Veritech" that some fans think got destroyed before they were able to transform every single time.
