Okay, Yamato fans. Coming down the pipe, we've got: 1/60 GBP with or without VF-1J Hikaru 1/60 Q-Rau 1/60 Monster 1/72? YF-19 resculpt ...and then an immeasurable void of dark emptiness that gives no hint of future releases. A certain Sith Lord has spoken volumes with his silence in reference to Max/Milia 1/48 VF-1Js, but we all saw that coming (though a release date remains a mystery). I need something to keep my mind off of this crap so I don't grow too impatient too soon. I'm planning on gettin my Ikea display case and stickering up some VF-1s over the Christmas break, so hopefully that will help. Any other suggestions are welcome. Is there a Macross collector equivalent to the cold shower?

Frankly, I don't. If I asked, she'd just say "no." I figure my play money is mine to spend, so no biggy. We have sort of a "don't ask/don't tell" thing going on. She doesn't support my habit, but she doesn't give me too much hell about it either.

I like the idea of customizing. I still haven't tried it myself, but I'm toying with the idea. As far as "why the 1/48?" Well, it's a great toy. Many folks feel it's the best VF-1 toy ever (and I tend to agree). If Yamato doesn't make the one you want, how else are you going to get it? I also think the low-vis lends itself to cusomization and may have sparked a lot of interest in 1/48 customs. You can leave the paint scheme largely the same and use something like Takatoys' stickers to get something a little more unique. That, and with the re-release of the 1A Hikaru and 1S Roy, and the occasional cheap Max 1A, it's hard not to resist the temptation to give it a try.

I thought this 1/48 UNAF low-vis from Kadena Air Base in Hobby Japan was pretty cool.

Well, there's this: The Custom TV VF-1A Max Even when it comes to models, I think this is a highly neglected scheme...maybe because of lack of references.

Isn't that to be expected though, considering it's a non-canon paint scheme?

Personally, I was never fortunate enough to experience the chunky monkey magic back in the 80s, so I don't see the attraction. The easy answer, though, is nostalgia combined with durability. You could beat someone to death with a Bandai and the sucker would still be in mint condition (though it's victim would be thoroughly dispatched).

Squadron has tons of them. Just do a search for decals...maybe use a particular WWII aircraft for "keyword," like P-51 Mustang, or whatever you used for inspiration. 1/60 is not a very common scale (I don't know of any injection molded plastic kits in that scale), so I'd probably do a search for 1/72 scale stuff and you'll probably find something useful. If you're looking for something a little more contemporary, you can get some great stuff directly from Twobobs Aviation Graphics.

Well, the original release made it's run. If BBTS got any of the originals in a recent shipment, somebody somewhere would've had to have been sittin' on some inventory for months for no good reason, and that's not likely. An easy way to tell which is which just by looking at the boxes is that the new releases don't have the little velcro tabs on them.

I don't think so either. I tried a pair of curved scissors that I had lying around and found it really difficult to cut anything neatly. They work great for me.

202 and 303 are on the 1J sticker sheet to boot...it's just a matter of time.

There are pictures posted in another Hikaru 1S thread somewhere, but the dot is supposed to be red if the movie is anything to go by.

As anxious as I am for new product information, I'm counting on this time to "recharge financially."

I'd be surprised if we heard anything before Christmas, but I'd count on seeing them at some point. My guess is they'll be the next 1/48s. Place your bets...
