Shawn Posted August 3 Posted August 3 I found a handful of Macross item flyers, and some misc Promotion items, so figured I'd put a placeholder here. Here is one of the Misc items...a Sega Saturn promo sleeve for the 'upcoming' at the time DYRL game (1997) It would be displayed in a plastic cd case and placed on the shelf to excite you for what was coming down the road. If you zoom real in real close on the game pics shown on the back, you can see the final boss for the 1st stage, which at the time had GLAUG LEGS! In the final release for the game, it was changed to a flying boss. In one of the Sega Saturn Gama magazines around the time (1997) there was an included game disc, which was a common practice at the time for people to preview the upcoming games. The promo disc had stage 1 of the Macross game as a preview, and in that version you can actually play against the Glaug footed version shown above! I've got the disc and magazine squirreled away somewhere....when I find it I'll include a pic of what issue it was from. I remember playing it and going 'What the heck is this!??' (I got the magazine a few years AFTER the game was released) Quote
sketchley Posted August 3 Posted August 3 (edited) Woah! That's a neat find! And the fact that the Gurāji-legged version was semi-officially released is also pretty cool. ※ It's also the first time I've seen a version that matches Kazutaka Miyatake's designs for that particular beast. Reviewing the lineart for it (Kazutaka Miyatake Design Works Macross & Orguss Pgs 92-93) I noticed that the "feet" are slightly different from the Gurāji: 2 toes and a single heel. The zoomed-in image above is consistent with that, as well as the other leg details in the top-most illustration on Pg 93. Edited August 3 by sketchley Quote
Shawn Posted August 3 Author Posted August 3 Wow-great memory on that! Now I really want to find that Sega Saturn Promo disc!! Says they are Zentradi walking tanks...sort of like Macross Universe AT-ATs Quote

Shawn Posted August 3 Author Posted August 3 I was hesitant to create a new flyers thread, and could fold things back in, but where would some of the misc promo flyers go There are misc event flyers, game flyers, model flyer etc Any thoughts? Quote

In the flyer thread! I guess if it is a standard (or close to it) flyer size of B5 and it is specifically used for promotional purposes, be it a game, toy, movie event, or anything being promoted for a future /upcoming date...for example, not just a mini version of a full size poster...then I guess that makes it a "flyer"? Also, flyers usually have content in the font and back of them... Edited August 3 by jvmacross Quote
Shawn Posted August 3 Author Posted August 3 Guess I should not have said 'new flyers' thread but 'flyers thread' in general ok...so no long posters, but B5 ish size items, I can work with that. Some don't have anything on the other side, but they are still a flyer like this Quote
Shawn Posted August 3 Author Posted August 3 Arii mini Factory flyer They pack a lot of extra detail in those factory images! Quote
Shawn Posted August 3 Author Posted August 3 Preorder your Macross Vol II Album or Cassette, with 20 new songs! PLUS get a free NEW and Original design Kawamori poster for the pre-order! What poster would this be? It would be a Kawamori penned poster from Victor. I know there are lots of Mikimoto ones. Any ideas? Quote

Shawn Posted August 3 Author Posted August 3 Just like the Macross DYRL Discount smaller handouts that you could bring to a theater to get a discount (pic below), there were larger Flyers available as well I've collected a few variants with unique theater names on the back of each, because it was fun tracking them down and they sell for cheap on the auction sites. (couple bucks each so its quite affordable) Quote

Shawn Posted August 3 Author Posted August 3 If you send in 2 lids of Sonton Jam , you could enter a contest that ran for 4 months, where they gave away 1000 Valkryies a month It doesn't explicitly say which valkyrie product is the prize, aside from saying it has 3 modes, but I would assume its a Takatoku 1/55 VF-1S, since it uses that artwork. I wonder if any custom outer mailing packaging was ever done for these 4000 units, but I've never seen anything. Quote

Shawn Posted August 4 Author Posted August 4 Found the Demo disc in a box! Broke out my Sega Saturn and my ST Key cartridge and the thing booted right up. Search Flash SegaSaturn Vol 16 https://archive.org/download/sega_saturn It falls from the sky, lands, then does some jumping around and crouching while trying to blast you. I guess they thought the legs were not spacy enough so they ditched it for the jets Cool! Here is the side by side comparison. Look at the bottom pic, then bottom center. That variant looks to be pulled direct for this. Quote
