VF5SS Posted December 8, 2014 Posted December 8, 2014 I got a request to recreate the VF-0's arm hinges so I figured I should spread the word here once the parts are ready. I still have VF-0 bicep parts if people need them too. Brand-X Posted December 8, 2014 Posted December 8, 2014 Oh jeez. I just put in an order for the arm pieces like an hour ago, I would have grabbed a set of these too just to have them, especially considering the cost of shipping haha. Oh well, next time.
frankell05 Posted December 8, 2014 Posted December 8, 2014 has anyone made anything like this for the vf-171? for those damned shoulder pieces? triangle thingys?
Brand-X Posted December 8, 2014 Posted December 8, 2014 has anyone made anything like this for the vf-171? for those damned shoulder pieces? triangle thingys? Yeah, a general VF-171 fixer upper kit would probably inspire me to finally buy a CF one.
chyll2 Posted December 8, 2014 Posted December 8, 2014 so almost half of the arm assembly for VF-0 is exploding? It is comforting to know that replacement parts can be requested UP! OT for 171, I think Xigfrid is trying to design one (designs are uploaded in shapeway but not yet for sale).
frankell05 Posted December 8, 2014 Posted December 8, 2014 cool, thanks! I checked shapeways after seeing this post and saw it there and got disturbingly excited, then I realized its not for sale yet so Ill be checking back and forth. I think is great that peeps are just making their own solutions to this problems. I looooves technolgy too!!
Xigfrid Posted December 8, 2014 Posted December 8, 2014 Nice addition VF5SS. The upper triangle design is quiet easy and almost finished, but I couldn't find a way to make the lower triangle. I don't know which triangle has the most failure rate, so I don't know if only the upper triangle fix would be enough
mickyg Posted December 8, 2014 Posted December 8, 2014 From my own example (sample?) it's the side that holds the ball on the shoulder. I guess you'd call that the socket, but since the socket isn't a cup, and is instead two "sides" with a depression for the ball to sit in, I don't know what you'd call it. Either way, the full triangle is 3 pieces. The main one that everything screws to, seems to be OK on mine. Then there's the bit that pivots out and is held in with a screw - this part is also OK on my copy. The failing one is the "top" of the whole mess, for lack of a better term. But definitely the part that forms the other side of the "socket" in the shoulder joint. I've got pics somewhere but is that descriptive enough? Sorry about the OT post! We need a "potential shapeways fix for 171" thread to go up. It'd be busy as anything!
VF5SS Posted December 9, 2014 Author Posted December 9, 2014 If someone wants to send me a 171 shoulder piece I could try to replicate it.
David Hingtgen Posted December 9, 2014 Posted December 9, 2014 If someone wants to send me a 171 shoulder piece I could try to replicate it. Makes me wonder how many intact ones are left, to reference from...
mickyg Posted December 9, 2014 Posted December 9, 2014 Mines been super glued but is reasonably intact. But I'm not exactly close in terms of shipping it to you. But if there are not others to offer, I'd be happy to step up.
VF5SS Posted December 15, 2014 Author Posted December 15, 2014 (edited) So I got the test sample and it works great. I beefed up the edge with the hinge holes just to be safe though. Here is the right side (tested) http://www.shapeways.com/model/2936137/zero-right-arm-hinge.html And here is the left side (untested but it should work) http://www.shapeways.com/model/2955656/zero-left-arm-hinge.html Edited December 15, 2014 by VF5SS
ZDZIYO Posted December 15, 2014 Posted December 15, 2014 Look great, ordered a few pairs just in case.
VF5SS Posted December 16, 2014 Author Posted December 16, 2014 (edited) I have to fix the right arm hinge because shapeways messed up again. Sorry for the inconvenience. Let me know if shapeways does something wrong and makes a three part right hinge because they aren't using the most up to date file. Edited December 16, 2014 by VF5SS
okinawaHAI! Posted February 12, 2015 Posted February 12, 2015 Greetings, I am planning on purchasing a set of the shoulder hinges for my VF-O. Are you aware of any further incidents of Shapeway making the wrong hinge? What is the Bicep armor for? Is it an improvement or a cosmetic upgrade? Thank you for you time. Regards, Oki
VF5SS Posted February 12, 2015 Author Posted February 12, 2015 Shapeways should only make the right hinges now. The arm armor is just a replacement part in case you don't have yours.
Valkyrie Driver Posted February 14, 2015 Posted February 14, 2015 I just replaced the arms of my VF0 with your replacement parts. Aside from the color being off, and some looseness in the bicep swivel, I have no complaints. Now if only the clamp that holds the leg bar could be replaced, my VF-0 would be full functional again. I can't get my zero to hold the gun pod extended, but then only my VF-1, VF-25, and VF-19(hi metal) will do that. So far I'm satisfied. Good work.
