Can somebody ID this mecha from 'Perfect Memory'?

Gundamhead

Recommended Posts

I got bored and decided to do a quick scratchbuild. I was in kind of a Macross mood, so I broke out the 'Perfect Memory' and thumbed through it.

I found this thing, and built it in 1/72. The thing is I don't know what the thing's name is. I don't know what episode it is in either. Can anybody help out that speaks/reads Japanese?

I figure that it's for 0-G hard vacuum maintenance or rescue. I'm pretty sure that's a light bar. I'd just like to know the colors if possible. Red for rescue, yellow for maintenance. The color of the numbers would be helpful. Even the overall color? (I figured white) Anybody happen to catch what episode this thing shows up in?

Drool gurgle 8P obscure mecha from Macross! please say you're gonna recast and sell it to me?

It's name according the Robotech RPG book is The Searcher SFV. I don't know if it's correct but the names for all the other obscure mecha appear to be correct.

Recast, please please please.

I can't read the kanji but after puzzling over the kana for 10 minutes or so, I get something like "Kuranamo Spider Pod". Maybe Kuranamo is the manufacturer?

Your model looks really nice. Good work.

Edit: by searching on "searcher SFV", I found a color picture at http://www.kent.net/robotech/vehicles/rdf/searcher.shtml and http://veritechceo.xwlegacy.net/robotcopts.html Not clear if the colors are accurate.

Also, I found the original japanese term on the web: http://www.yk.rim.or.jp/~akira_t/rbdble/pgm/macross.htm (below the QF-3000E reference, and no information other than the name)

And here: http://www.geocities.co.jp/AnimeComic/4565...achine_m_o.html This is more useful, as it gives "spider bag" as the English name. And indeed, "Kuranamo" or "Guranamo" is the manufacturer. 宇宙作業艇 is translated by babelfish as "space job boat", i.e., space utility craft I assume.

Or maybe it's suposed to be Geronimo spider pod. Cuz like if you have to go out in the middle of a battle in that unarmed, unarmored thing you'd yell GERONIMOOOOOO before launching into the fray.

actually (I dont have my book here damnit) but from the image it says

GURANAMO.SUPAIDAA. PAGU (that last word could either be bagu or pagu image not in focus)

I dont know what Guranamo means but what does Glaug mean either? anyone? could be jsut some made up stuff.

I think It should be pod but literal translation is pag or bag.

oh by the way superb job. That is one fearsome scratch built kit.

Wow! That's really impressive!

Just one problem with it though... the 'circle-bar' verniers... You made them raised. They should be recessed. They're just like the ones on a VF-1.

You could probably just use some of these to replace them, actually.

I can't remember exactly what that craft is... I think Nanashi was telling me about it once though. But I do remember when it's seen in the TV series. I think it's in episode 2. Remember the scene where the Zentradi ships are turning one of the ARMD ships into swiss cheese? There's some interior shots of VF-1s and such being tossed around inside of it. And that craft is in one of those shots.

Isn't that the Glamour Spider Bug recovery vehicle?

I haven't seen it in person and I can't find it's entry in the Compendium, but I think that's what it is.

That sounds like the best guess so far, at least for the manufacturer. To confirm, you should compare the kana for "glamour" (since it's the manufacturer for several known craft in Macross) with this one.

Ah, the entry is here, under "Military Vehicles and Support Equipment": http://www.anime.net/macross/mecha/

Alright, found it in the anime. It's actually in episode 1, but in the same ARMD scene I described. It's in frame #31568 of disc 1, side 1 if you have the laserdisc boxed set like I do

It's only on screen for one frame, but you can see everything you'll need for the color scheme. I could have sworn it was a longer scene, and it was on screen for at least a full second.... But either I was wrong, or it's in another episode.

There it is.

I was looking under aerospace craft. They look like the Stonewell Belcom of support craft, they made the Cat's Eye and Mom's kitchen also.

OK. I'm a little shocked at the hoopla over this little guy. So 'Glamor Spider Bug/Pod' is it's name? I like that better than Searcher SFV. It doesn't have any reconoitering or prospector look to it. Giant headlights and a light bar wouldn't make sense on something called 'Searcher' to me.

It does have a 'Spider Pod' look to it though. And it does look like a maintenance/rescue machine.

Thanks for the episode, I got to check it out. Those Robotech RPG colors are right, though I do not know about yellow headlights. I know the circle bars are reversed on mine. The ones you have linked (I have them) are far too large for the tiny side ones. I also thought it just seemed too flat and kinda blah. My big arm mount is also a little different. I didn't like the way it was attached in the line art.

I did not plan to make this a kit. I didn't think there'd be too much interest in it. However after having dropped it and seeing all the parts scattered on the floor, it could be kitted now with some more clean up. (I never claimed to be graceful.) I'll let you know more details about that when I know more.
