According to IGN, Michael Fassbender (Erik Lehnsherr/Magneto in X-Men: First Class, David in Prometheus) has been cast in an upcoming film adaptation of Ubisoft's popular game series Assassin's Creed. He will play the role of Callum Lynch and Aguilar, original characters for this film. Also starring are Marion Cotillard (Mal in Inception, Miranda/Talia al Ghul in The Dark Knight Rises), Michael K. Williams (Robert in 12 Years a Slave, Omar in The Wire), Ariane Labed (French actress making her Hollywood debut), Jeremy Irons (Simon Gruber in Die Hard with a Vengeance, Tiberias in Kingdom of Heaven), and Brendan Gleeson (Hamish in Braveheart, Mad-Eye in Harry Potter). The Bourne saga continues with The Bourne Legacy. However, unlike the previous trilogy, Matt Damon will not reprise his role as Jason Bourne in this installment, and despite its title, the film has nothing to do with the 2004 novel by Eric Von Lustbader. Instead, we have Jeremy Renner (Clint Barton/Hawkeye in Thor and The Avengers, Brandt in Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol) as Aaron Cross, a product of the top-secret "Operation Outcome." Also starring are Rachel Weisz (Evie in The Mummy and The Mummy Returns) and Edward Norton (like nobody here knows who he is...); reprising their roles from the Bourne trilogy are Joan Allen (Warden Hennessey in Death Race), David Strathairn (Edward Murrow in Good Night, and Good Luck.), Albert Finney (Daddy Warbucks in Annie, Kincade in Skyfall) and Scott Glenn (Capt. From Family Guy's Seth MacFarlane comes Ted, his first-ever motion picture, premiering on June 29. Ted stars Mark Wahlberg (like no one here knows who he is...), Mila Kunis (Meg in Family Guy, Mona Sax in Max Payne), Giovanni Ribisi (Parker in Avatar, Wade in Saving Private Ryan) and Jessica Barth (various voices in Family Guy), with Ted voiced by MacFarlane and narration done by Patrick Stewart (like anyone here doesn't know his name...). In the film, John Bennett's wish for his teddy bear to come to life comes true. Unfortunately, they've been living together for over 27 years, which severely affects John's relationship with his girlfriend Lori. In order for him to move on with his life, he tries to distance himself from Ted. Early reviews have been positive so far, with a 72% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. The original thread may be locked, but there will never be an end to the debate. Whether it's Battlefield Earth, Highlander II, G-Saviour or anything directed by Uwe Boll or produced by The Asylum, we'll always have our arguments over which is the worst science fiction movie of all time. To start things off, let's play a little game called Bad Movie Night, which was inspired by my own experience. Over a decade ago, my old roommate kept on telling me that Wild Wild West was the worst movie ever made. I hadn't seen the movie, but as bad as the reviews were, I disagreed with him. So we did a bad movie challenge. He had me watch Wild Wild West, while I made him watch a bad movie of my choice. I made him watch Disney's Inspector Gadget. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KhC2bqVxoA4 A week later, he demanded a rematch. He had me watch I Got the Hook Up. So it was a typical rap movie, but not as bad as he said it was. And it made me feel bad because I made him watch Steel. Round 3 came, and he challenged me to watch Cyborg. At this point, I wasn't sure if he was trying at all or his movie pain threshold was just really low. Needless to say, my challenge to him for round 3 was the 1990 Captain America movie. We did one final round because he wanted me to watch The Wizard. You know, that theatrical Nintendo commercial with the Power Glove and Super Mario Bros. 3. I ended the round with Robotech II: The Sentinels. So with this in mind, if you were to challenge a friend to Bad Movie Night, what three movies would you make them watch that would guarantee you a win (provided they haven't seen them yet)? And what would you wager (whether it's a buck or a drink)? -
I'm surprised no one here is talking about this. Premiering today in most theaters worldwide (and on May 25 in the U.S.) is Men in Black 3, the follow-up to the 1997 masterpiece Men in Black and its disappointing 2002 sequel Men in Black II. Barry Sonnenfeld (The Addams Family, Get Shorty) returns to the director's chair while Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones reprise their roles as Agent J and Agent K, respectively. With the film's theme being time-travel, Josh Brolin (Jonah Hex, Dr. Block in Planet Terror) plays young Agent K in 1969. Also starring are Emma Thompson (Nanny McPhee, Queen Elinor in Brave) and Alice Eve (Molly in She's Out of My League) as Agent O, Nicole Scherzinger (of the Pussycat Dolls) as Lily, Jemaine Clement (of the musical duo Flight of the Conchords) as Boris the Animal, and David Rasche (Sledge Hammer!) as Agent X. Many of their characteristics are still intact as if the last episode of The Muppet Show (which aired in 1981) was just yesterday. Even The Muppet Telethon opening number is spot-on to the original show's iconic sequence. And even though Walter is the newest Muppet, he really holds his ground as the film's lead Muppet. Another big plus is, as with all Muppet features, the music. You can't help but sing along to the musical numbers - even the ever-cheesy Starship song "We Built This City". And the Muppet Barbershop Quartet's rendition of Nirvana's "Smell's Like Teen Spirit" is priceless. Of course, this film wouldn't be complete without new performances of the landmark Muppet songs "Rainbow Connection" and "Mah Na Mah Na". But perhaps the main showstopper is the Oscar-winning song "Man or Muppet" by Gary and Walter. Yes, the Muppets are great as usual, but how about the human actors? Jason Segel and Amy Adams deliver a great performance, even though Adams is not as cute as she was in her previous films. Chris Cooper doesn't do much as the film's villain, but even for such a cheesy role, he is one villain you'd love to hate. Jack Black's uncredited appearance really brings down the house as the Muppets kidnap him and torture him with their skits. The cameo list is a who's who of stars from yesterday and today, including Sheldon Cooper as Walter's human form in the "Man or Muppet" segment. In short, The Muppets is not only a big love letter to long-time Muppet fans, but also one of the best family films of this century. So, who in here watched the film adaptation of the Suzanne Collins novel The Hunger Games? I just saw it earlier tonight. Yes, it has some plot issues, the shaky camerawork is severely nauseating, and the costume design is too weird by dystopian standards, but it's almost as watchable as Battle Royale. Almost. Based upon a lot of positive word of mouth, I decided to watch the new film Chronicle. If you've heard little about this movie (or have just seen only the trailer), I can say this is easily one of the best "super hero" films I've seen in years. Some basic info about the film can be found in the wiki link below (though don't read the details if you don't want to be spoiled): http://en.wikipedia....icle_(film) I will say just labelling this movie as a "super hero" tale - while descriptive as a sound bite - does the film a terrible diservice. Chronicle is so much more than that: in fact, it's fair to say this film is basically a live action Akira done right...in a way. The story of Chronicle is much more immediate and smaller than the story of Akira, but while the film eschews the broader evolution of humanity, social/political themes and human existence in Akira (for the most part), it does tell a very compelling "chronicle" of three young kids gaining super powers. What results is a very unrealistic premise explored in a very realistic way. The characters all act like real people would in the given circumstances and the performances of all the actors are spot on. The film can be incredibly funny but it also explores some dark stuff. You get a sense how the story will play out from the beginning, but that doesn't make any of the emotional beats any less poignant. I'd like to say more, but I don't want to spoil anything. I will say I was thoroughly entertained and enthralled throughout the film. I don't think I've ever felt this much elation at the idea of super powers as I was while watching the characters discover their abilities in Chroncile. For anyone who has ever had a dream of flying, you owe it to yourself to see this film. An online film commentator said recently in his podcast that all us geeks can rest easy now because a proper Akira live action story has been made. While it's not entirely accurate, there is some truth. If the live action Akira film ever happens and fails, Chronicle will definitely satisfy the same desire for that story on the big screen. Highly recommended.

From Timo Vuorensola, director of the Star Wreck parody film series, comes his first-ever major motion picture. Iron Sky is a sci-fi comedy set in the year 2018, where Nazis who colonized the dark side of the moon after World War II set a full-scale invasion of Earth. Please forgive me if this has been posted before. How old were you when you first discovered Macross? It doesn't matter if it was Robotech or not, since it 'tech uses the same animation for the first third of their saga. I was about 14, just getting into anime, back when it was still rare and underground. I had heard of Robotech from when I was younger, from commericals and all, but it was never on here. So, I discovered that a video store here had anime for rent. I clearly remember renting Project A-KO, but saw both Robotech II the Sentinels and Macross II (this was the VHS days) on the shelf as well. I later rented Robotech II, but honestly didn't understand any bit of it. A few weeks later I rented Macross II vol 1, and I was amazed by the space combat and storyline. I then subequently rented the later volumes when the store got them in. An anime all about transforming jets? Yeah I was definitely pleased. I later rented Clash of the Bionoids from another rental store, by this time I knew it was Macross, but still didn't know how it was related to Robotech at all. A few years later I found out the "awful" truth about the differences between Robotech and Macross, By that time, I had all 4 vhs OVA episodes of Macross Plus (still my favorite macross story to date), had purchased the "Uncut" version of Clash of the Bionoids, aka "SDF Macross: Do You Remember Love?" as everyone else in the world knows it as. Then Robotech came on Toonami (RIP) , and I was able to enjoy it knowing it as an alternate universe to a greater storyline. Years later I was finally able to watch the original Macross series the way it was originally intended to, and enjoy it that much more So, what's your Macross story?

A Good Day to Die Hard will be directed by John Moore (Max Payne, Behind Enemy Lines). Bruce Willis will once again play his iconic action film character John McClane, while Jai Courtney (Varro in Spartacus: Blood and Sand) plays his son Jack. To commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Xinhai Revolution and Jackie Chan's 100th film, 1911 Revolution premieres in Chinese theaters on September 23 and in Hong Kong on September 29. The film is directed by Chan, who stars as revolutionary leader Huang Xing. Then, as the years passed, you forgot most of them. And when you saw them on DVD, you thought to yourself, "I actually enjoyed that movie when I was younger?" Take Condorman, for example. It flopped at the box office and was heavily panned by critics. Kids back then thought it was cool because Condorman could fly and had a badass supercar. Today, one can't help but laugh at the film - not because it is mostly a comedy, but because its production values are laughable. The storyline is ridiculously hokey, the acting is unbearably cheesy and the wiring is clearly visible in the scenes where Woody uses his Condorman suit. And a lot of Porsche fans are still pissed off by the car chase scene. But who cares?! This falls under the category of "it's so bad, it's good." It's that one toy in your prized collection that everyone hates. Despite all the bad parts mentioned above, Condorman has an equal amount of great parts in it. The cinematography is excellent - especially with the use of Paris, Monte Carlo and Switzerland as the film's settings. And the music by the late, great Henry Mancini (1924-1994) (The Pink Panther, Peter Gunn) gives the film a sense of epicness. Also, you gotta admit that Barbara Carrera was hot in this movie. Of course, this movie could use a little bit of remastering TLC, as the DVD shows it hasn't aged well. Hopefully, Disney will give more attention to this underrated classic. In short, Condorman is an acquired taste, but it's still one of the greatest guilty pleasure films of the 20th century.
