  1. I bought this kit from our friendly neighborhood Valkyrie awhile ago. Might I say fine job, my friend. The quality of the resin is good... nothing that can't be fixed with some good old sanding and putty. I liked the kit so much, I picked up another one yesterday. On to the build up. Now please realize this is my FIRST resin kit, and only my third real model since I got back into the hobby. I am really happy with the actual build, but I am VERY VERY worried that I am on a course to screw up the paint job... but hell, I'm going to chalk this one up to a learning experience. As you can see in the picture below, I have primered (mr. surfacer), lightly sanded, and applied the first coat. Now this is where the experiment starts. I applied (unfortunately very sloppily) grey airbrush strokes along the panel lines. I plan to apply a brighter shade of white and buff color mix on top of this. I will lightly dust the areas where the grey was applied so as to mute the change between the panels and the lines. I'm not sure this will work (Heaven help me... I am deviating from Master Cheng's guidance!), but I think you won't know until you try. I think as in life, you learn more from the things you screw up than the things you get right. Below here is the fuselage:
  2. Very hard, IMHO... and I think paying over $100 is the norm... which seems alot to me. I think finding the 1/100 Wave models are a little easier, but expect to pay over $60, I think. Anyone else have an opinion?
  3. I actually contacted Tanmen for my own personal order. I was planning on opening it up to the rest of the MWers when I had a good idea if Tanmen could fill the order. This is completely separate from Meyersjesse's coordinated order. I sent a first email seeing if he would be interested in doing a second run of the Cat's Eye. He sent a note back saying that he was having the note translated. That was two months ago. I subsequently sent two emails asking if the note had been translated yet and if he was still interested. No responses. I was careful to show complete respect and admiration in my email so as not to offend. Well, call me an ugly American, since the apparent lack of customer service has resulted in the loss of any future business from me.
  4. Thanks Kurt... I really appreciate the display walkthrough!
  5. I have also had nothing but trouble with Model Maste Acryls... clog up my airbrush, but when I thin it down then it runs with watery drips. I even used the MM Acryl thinner that they sell. TAMIYA RULES TAMIYA RULES TAMIYA RULES TAMIYA RULES TAMIYA RULES TAMIYA RULES TAMIYA RULES
  6. I had trouble finding it myself, try a hardware store, near cleaning/maintinance/janitorial supplies. Just at a large supermarket/grocery store in the cleaning supply aisle. Not everyone still carries it, but likely would not be with large industrial clearners at a hardware store like Home depot
  7. Commander McBride is right. If you can't get an airbrush, I would still consider Tamiya Spray Paints for the large surface areas, and then the regular bottle paint (Tamiya, Gunze, or Polyscale) for the details.
  8. Is it your completed work? I would love to see it. nope... like too many of my models... incomplete. we are redoing our basement and I am going to have a dedicated vent for my spray booth. But until then, I'm not risking getting sick on the fumes. Looking forward to weathering this guy... never weathered very well, but particularly not something of this scale. Personally I like the SDF-1 in cruiser mode much better than battroid mode.
  9. I have the G-system kit too... very nice... need to use lots and lots of putty to fill the gaps. Some pieces are a little too brittle. I never saw the original Yellow Submarine kit. Could use some metal pieces for the exhaust for detail, IMHO.
  10. master cheng... what is the address of your website again? I thought you had some finished pics of the VF-2ss, VF-1A, Elintseeker, etc. Also, can someone put up a link to that PDF of the YF-19 build up again? Was it Grayson who did that? Thanks, LTSO
  11. interesting... only the inside? why is that? does it look more realistic when the clear colors are applied only on the inside? I think you were the one who put reflective material inside the clear parts too... is that right?
  12. yeah... you never hear of Super Deformed Star Wars figures or Super Deformed GI Joe toys... just plain silly if you ask me.
  13. wm cheng... I spray future straight out of the bottle... and it does clog a little, but no more than Model Master Acryls. Truth is that Tamiya spoils us. We think every substance that goes through our airbrush should spray and clean up as easy as Tamiya paints... too bad it doesn't!
  14. The legs are pretty well articulated. They do not have to be spread so far apart. I am a big fan of these kits. I finished one that was on the old MW boards. There is also a good review of this kit on modelersite.com (this is a website that one of the MW members contributes to). Does anyone have the link to that article?
  15. I agree... SD stuff is a little silly, in my opinion.
  16. wonderful job master C! A masking question for you... do you cut the strips first or wait till they are down and cut along the panel lines? I never used alclad... i'll have to experiment. I am definitely not going to try to tint the canopy... I'm too afraid I will mess it up. Is it easy? do you just spray, let dry, and then dunk in future? Thanks again!
  17. I only have about 15.... about 3 resin kits (recasts mostly and a Wave). I have about 7 Hasegawas. I can't bring myself to get the Bandai valks given the subpar quality versus Hasegawa... but I did get 2 Zentraidi mechs and 3 Destroids from Bandai. As I've said before... I'm getting addicted to resin... I would love some Tanmen, but the dude never writes me back. I also can't find reasonably priced Club-M's or Yellow Subs... may have to rely on the recasts.
  18. I'm sorry... I meant the Wave models... the ones with the Yellow box and the white battroid on the covers.
  19. Does anyone know where to find some Macross Plus 1/100 Club-M/Yellow Sub kits? I build the VF-11 Soundblaster and loved the kit. I think I'm addicted to resin. e2046.com doesn't have any hobbyfan.com doesn't have any HLJ.com has one or two, but not the ones I need ebay rarely has them I really think these kits would be a great recast opportunity for someone (hint hint)!
  20. Here is a better picture, I think: http://www.macrossworld.com/macross/magazi...002-page-10.jpg Thanks, LTSO
  21. Oh... he'll be around! This is the perfect spot for the WM Cheng threads. We should bring over his YF-19, Elintseeker, the Yukikaze Super Sylph, and other build-up threads he's done! It would be a shame to waste those on the OLD BOARDS!!!
