  1. Anyone else notice an eerie similarity between Titanfall (video below) and Shingeki No Kyojin (Attack on Titan) anime. Especially with all the dudes flying around the battlefield, and the obvious mechanical/biological, respectively, "titans" ?
  2. And the PWNAGE on Dust 514 continues with a vengeance! I left the beginner's queue a while back, and suffered a few minor setbacks because once you go out into public matches, nearly 90% of players have prototype gears / weapons and have at least several orders of magnitude more SP than a newer player. After some skill upgrades and some readjustments to my equipment I'm being productive again, averaging a KDR of about 6.0. I'm working in getting into a logistics suit, but changing over to a tactical sniper rifle made a huge difference for me... lower damage but high ROF. And there was this really fun game last week. There was this guy who I kept taking down, and his team's logistics kept reviving him, this went on for about 4 times before he decided to respawn. I would have /ragequit the game if some spineless sniper kept doing that to me . (Then I took out the logistics healer. )
  3. Got mixed feelings about F2P... this is how I think it's gonna go down: Yes, you can fly the Mig-21, 23, 25, 29, F-14, 15, 16, 18 for free... but pay (Prices reflect aesthetic awesomeness and not real world capabilities) $10 for Moebius Colored F-22 $10 for Yellow-13 SU-37 $15 for T-50 PAK-FA $20 for Shinden $49.99 for "Elite Aces Pack" which gives you a whole squadron of Idolm@ster planes (by the way Azusa is my favorite), and a whole host of "moe anime girl" themed planes. You watch... I'm calling it
  4. So the fun with Dust 514 continues. This time, I decided to try my hand at sniping - with spectacular results! In just 1 weekend of playing, I racked up 143 kills with only 14 deaths. It was enough to put me on the KDR leaderboards with a statistic of 10.21 (it has gone up since then). Sniping is totally h4x0rzed in this game. The maps are huge relative to the people playing in them, lots of places to hide. LOL think I'm going to stop playing with this character, be a d!ck and just to lock my place. When I looked today I was in the 600's (cut off is 1000) in terms of rank. This character was an alt anyways.
  5. Mother nature has a perfect combat record.
  6. That was my thought too. The Ulysses asteroid is partly responsible for the proliferation of all the super weapons we've seen in the AC games. But yea... no more door gunner and/or helicopter action please. It was one of the main reasons Assault Horizon felt like a dumb and unfocused rail shooter.
  7. At 1:50 it looked like he was about to shoot out a Hadouken at point blank range .
  8. I have been playing Dust 514. Being a long time (though on hiatus now) EVE player I found the fit customization interface to be very familiar and user friendly. Just like with ships on Eve Online, the dropsuits have slots constrained by PG/CPU. There is some stuff that I think needs a lot of work. Hit detection just seems a bit off for some reason, but perhaps because I'm using the shotgun, which has a wide spread. Sometimes I hit another player point blank with no damage registering. I'm also not a big fan of microtransactions. Thankfully most of the purchaseable gear out there is not incredibly better than what you can purchase with ISK, and certainly not better than the advanced Proto equipment, but some things like the XP Boosters you pretty much have to buy with AUR's. Unfortunately the boosters make a whole chunk of difference if you want to level your soldier at a reasonable pace. Also, the map and gameplay variety is a bit crappy at the moment . Some wave-assault styled PvE would actually make a nice addition to this game. Anyways I started the game as a plain old Assault but spraying the AR got boring fast. I am currently running a Shotgun-Scout build and it's A LOT more fun! I am 1 level away from actual Scout suits, so I am just running the basic Minmatar Light: - Weapon: Shotgun (plain vanilla) / Militia Scrambler Pistol (or Nova Knives ). - Highs: Shield Extender ... with a shotgun I didn't feel the need for a damage mod, most enemies fall in one or two hits. - Lows: Kinetic Stabs , Profile Dampener. Basically, my speed is my tank, I just run really fast, try and get behind guys while they're "distracted" shooting at my team members, unload the shottie, then run for cover. It's also useful in Domination sneaking up on guys capping objectives, then saying hello to them while they're hacking away. In addition to speed, the damps make your harder to detect. It's a high risk / high reward style of play so expect to get burned on a few rounds. But sometimes ....
  9. Calling it: Skull Face = The Boss. Ressurected via nano machines... the first generation nanites were kind of crappy hence all the scar tissue .
  10. Maybe.... just maybe in E3 we learn that Keifer Sutherland and David Hayter are the same person IRL! OMG.... they r like identical
  11. Best Type-Moon series was Carnival Phantasm .
  12. I have high hopes that Hasegawa will eventually tackle all the superplanes. It's been a clear progression: first a whole line of IM@S customs, then the Shinden, and now these.
  13. You mean real warplanes can't carry like 90 missiles? ...
  14. Good call on splitting up the pieces... perhaps it's a good time to actually learn to manipulate 3D models. I played a little bit with Blender this afternoon running it alongside a youtube tutorial. I admit that I did not create the Arrow model myself but got it from the web (Please don't sue me ) from this site: http://wcmdf.solsector.net/confed_fighters_hi.htm . Strangely when I import the 3DS in blender it's already neatly separated into various objects, and I can export out individually... will run a few more tests tomorrow. All told, after 2.5 models, the status bar tells me that there is 90-95% filament left. There is no number, only a bar unfortunately.
  15. Sorry GU-11, I'm not sure. You can check with the manufacturer : http://cubify.com/ I think they sell the machines and supplies directly from their website. I would not try to use a 3rd party plastic/filament for this.... if someone can ship the machine to Malaysia, then you can certainly obtain the "official" plastic cartridges from them too. Good luck.
  16. I have printed 2 models thus far and experimented extensively with the software, and here is a quick review. The results were slightly above my expectations. It's definitely not going to drive real models and toys out of business anytime soon, but with some practice and planning you can get some really sharp looking prints. Printer: The machine has a small touchpad to control all basic functionality (much like an office copier/printer ... you get the picture). Through the touchpad it walks you through some basic setup steps like the aforementioned gap setting. Overall, the user interface is good - simple, uncluttered, and intuitive. Once all is setup is complete, and you select the print file, the machine does its thing. Print time varies by model complexity and size. The sample below took about 90 minutes. It's quite amazing to watch though, seeing how the "structural support" is layed out, and then the model is built layer by layer, it might be a good time lapse video to make someday. During print, the level of noise is acceptable. Definitely less than an airbrush compressor, I don't have tools to measure the decibels, but it's about as loud as an old dot matrix printer. So yeah... your wife / girlfriend / parents / or Fido will be alerted to the noise of your minitature spaceship foundry as they walk past your workshoop or room . There is no discernable smell or anything coming from the device while operating. Setup and Cleanup: The instructions on how to set the initial "gap" between the pad and the printjet are a bit misleading. It reads like the gap should be just wide enough for a piece of paper to slide through without friction, but that is not the case. After 2 aborted attempts to print my model getting a "stream failure", I realized that there simply wasn't enough clearance between the pad and the jet. This was easily fixed by setting the gap roughly ~ 1cm. Right before printing you will need to apply some print glue to the pad. When finished, cleanup is easy. Soaking the printing pad in a bucket of warm water and just a little bit of soap will rinse off any residue from the "print glue" right off. Model Quality: Inherently, some models will print better than others. For models that are longer (or wider) than they are tall(i.e. most vehicles, cars, airplanes, spaceships, etc.) my first thought was to print it like they would appear in a nature, meaning flat against the pad (i.e. an airplane sitting on a runway). As you can see from the picture below, this produces some quality issues: mainly the layering is very visible especially around rounded structures. Problem #2 is that basically the whole underside of this model will have small connectors to the support structures that you will have to manually remove later. As you can see.... in unskilled hands this can spell disaster. Solution? I went back to the software, reoriented the model with the noise pointing up (i.e. an airplane on a full vertical climb). This greatly reduces the visual effects of the layering, and the number of support structures needed.... except for the rear which now suffers from the same problem. Like I said, some models work better than others. The models do feel solid and durable so swoosh to your heart's content with no guilt (you can build lots more if they break ). Here are some shots (... and in keeping with the WC theme of this thread): Some puttying on the back and some paint can definitely further enhance presentation. Software: The software is nice. Some basic tools to resize, rescale and reposition the model across the x, y, or z axis. I'm not sure what the healing options does.... I have not had the software complain about any files yet. Once you are done, the software compiles the model into a cube file. Here is a pic: Overall, hours of fun, it is about as idiot and patience proof as you can get with this product. If you want perfection though, definitely go with shapeways or something. Fortunately I think the technology will just get better and cheaper if this thing catches on.
  17. Movies like these are good to educate the general population regarding the scope of WW2. Most Americans think that the second world war was basically: Hitler invades some countries > Pearl Harbor > D-Day > A-Bombs All of the above events are significant, but probably due to cold war politics, Soviet and Chinese contributions are greatly overlooked. The success of events like D-Days and the Pacific campaign, can partly be attributed to the fact that Germany had committed tons of resources to fighting on its Eastern front, and likewise Japan had to commit lots of forces to hold on to China.
