  1. I think that Fire Bomber as a touring act is long over and done with...although, judging from the performance on the Macross 7 bonus stuff, I'm not sure that that's a bad thing. As for Mari, she's performing at Okaton in Atlanta (sorry, I don't know the dates), and again at Geghis Cohen in Hollywood on August 13. Her website is http://www.marimusic.com
  2. Just another race. Just as humans came from monkeys, Zolans came from marsupials. That kinda makes sense...thanks.
  3. Is there any consensus as to what the Zolans are? Are they mutated humans, or are they another race uplifted by the Proroculture, or what?
  4. Now if only Kawamori had remembered and gave the world a new Macross TV series or something as a present... Yeah, I know, there's no pleasing me.
  5. But Evangelion had half the number of episodes on a equivalent budget. More time could be spent per episode and numerous other factors. If you must compare M7 to something, try Gundam. Same size with about the same size budget. Point well taken. And M7 holds up pretty well when compared to, say, V Gundam. And I liked some of the animation loops...the VF-11 transformation was pretty good for cannon fodder (although not as nice as one from SDF with the battroid going through an explosion and coming out a gerwalk). And I just watched Dynamite 7 again last night, and was once again impressed with the animation there. Beautiful stuff.
  6. Well...yes and no. Some of the animation was very nice (although not as good as Evangelion, which debuted a year later), but the one thing that always galled me about M7 is that the animators have NO idea how to show someone playing a guitar convincingly. I mean, it's a small thing, but I get tired of Basara only playing one chord for an entire song...
  7. Yep, she did. But she sounded so cute that it was hard to take any offense. And now I'm definitely kicking myself for not taking any pics...although Mari signed my CD.
  8. Wasurekaketeru energy... Now hurry up! Tori modosouze! I have to agree with the majority about the first twelve episodes. My interet didn't really peak until Millia got into her old Valkryie and starting lecturing Basara on how to fly.
  9. At the AX panel they definitely said that could release DYRL domestically as part of the "merchandising rights." They aslo said that Tatsunoko were co-producers of the movie, which is why the deal covered DYRL as well. What was weird about it was that it was completely an afterthought...it wasn't part of their presentation; they only addressed the issue because someone asked at the Q&A. And of course, no word on when the DVD would actually come out... I could've asked, but I was carrying three bags of Hasegawa models, and I was afraid someone from HG would confiscate them if they knew...
  10. No, I didn't get the Divine Miss West's autograph, although I probably should've...It would've been interesting to get a photo of them together as well. Missed opportunities, I suppose. As for the special occasion, I think it was just because Mari's new CD is coming out on Tuesday, although she had a box of advance copies with her. Put it up if you get the chance (and if you like adult contemporary), it's excellent. And yes, Reba and her husband knew EXACTLY who they were seeing. The fact that they were there with a guy from C/FO proves that... At any rate, I hope she plays out more often. On another note, I'm glad Macrossworld is here...I don't know anyone else who would appreciate the weirdness. Thanks guys!
  11. I saw Mari Iijima perform at the Genghis Cohen Cantina last night. I didn't know exactly what to expect, but I certainly wasn't expecting the show to be anywhere near as good as it was. She did an excellent version of "Desperado," believe it or not, as well as other songs spanning her career. Before doing a song from her first album, she told a funny story about having a crush on Ryuichi Sakamoto when he was producing her first album (apparently, he wouldn't even kiss her cheek, although later, when she ran into him in a coffee shop, he insited that she sit in his lap, which made her boyfriend pretty upset). Towards the end of the set, she said, "I think I've made my peace with Macross," and asked how many people there were anime fans. Quite a few hands shot up, and she said, "See? On the one hand, it's nice. On the other, I've made twenty f***ing albums, but it's Macross everyone remembers!" She said she'd been trying to figure out what do for Macross, and had practiced "0-G Love," but finally decided on something else. Then she launched into "Do You Remember Love," which was awesome. At the encore, she said she didn't know what to play. Someone shouted out for "My Boyfriend's a Pilot," to which she said, "Wow, that one is REALLY an anime song..." I shouted out for "Tenshi no Engoku," which she then played. At any rate, it was a great show, and her new CD, "Gems" (a kinda sorta greatest hits), is really, really good. The bizarre part of the evening involved the couple in front of me. The man worked for Star Trek, and was talking about it before the show. He also called his wife "Reba," which got me wondering. After the show, after getting a signed CD from Mari, I talked to them a bit, and the man said, "You know, my wife here played Minmay in America," so I found myself chatting with Reba West... She was also very nice, and I felt comfortable enough to say that I thought Mari had had better songs to work with, and she agreed. So yeah...interesting night...
  12. Yes, it comes with decals for all four versions. Now I just hope that they'll re-release the non-FAST Pack VF-1 in some form...nothing kills my model-making joy like the thought that if I mess this one up, I can't replace it...
  13. Well, the two Minmay Guard designs have touring information on them, so I assume that they're meant to be, um, guarding Minmay as she travels from show to show. The REALLY odd part, though, is that the tour dates are for 2013 (in Paris, I believe) and 2014 (on the Moon)...Minmay would be off on the Megaroad at that point...
  14. Well...the problem seems to be that in the original series, the gunpods generally don't say U.N. Spacy at all. In Mac0, all of them have the words right side up on the left side and upside down on the right side (in fighter mode). I figure this is now the official way to do it, so I've been using it for all my VF-1s, as well.
  15. I've said it before, I'll say it again...I think the love triangle would have been a lot more convincing if Basara had shown even the slightest bit of interest in Mylene.
  16. I'm siding with justvinnie and Keith on this one...only seven Protodeviln were ever released in this universe, and all of them are still sealed on Varauta at the time of M0. My best guess is, as others have said, that the AFOS is some kind of Protoculture mecha...but I'm still wondering (as is everyone, I guess) about the blood forming Roy Waka...especially since the AFOS itself started bleeding at the end of episode 2...
  17. For what it's worth, I think "Bullitie" is a heck of a lot better than "Vrlitwhai."
  18. I've gone from desperately WANTING to like M7 to genuinely having affection for it, and it only took me seven years! I still don't like it as much as the original (I think it would have been improved by cutting it down by about 13 episodes, and by treating the Protodeviln more seriously...especially Zomd and Goram), but I think it has some interesting twists on the original plot.
  19. Vermillion's not the most masculine of colors either, yet I don't see anyone questioning Hikaru, Max or Kakizaki's manhood...
  20. I'm really surprised Hasegawa hasn't come out with Gerwalks yet...after making the fighter and the battroid, I would imagine it would be relatively cheap for them to make one...
  21. Well, I have a pretty clear memory (in ep. 44 or 45, whichever the one was when the cast was confronted with Geperunichi in person for the first time) of Irina calling Ivano "kare," or "him." I might be mistaken about it, but I'm pretty sure I'm not.
  22. Veddy, veddy interesting...I was expecting the last "Coming soon" box on the character list to be filled by either Global or Claudia...
  23. It would also be nice if they went all out, Studio Ghibli style, and one could watch the entrie movie in storyboards.
  24. Technically, it wasn't for Americans. CotB was done (along with the equally horribly dubbed Megazone Part II) for Japanese people to help them learn English, using British and Austrailian voice actors living in Hong Kong.
  25. Even Max and Millia??? BURN THE HERTIC!!
