They're not snapped down onto the mounts all the way, so I wouldn't worry. Typical BDF (Bandai Display Fail).

Star Trek: Picard (CBS All-Access)
Chronocidal replied to UN Spacy's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Ok, I'm going to admit, I'm intrigued, if only because I feel like they're trying to mashup Trek with LOTR? I figure that character was a Romulan, but I'm like, "Wait, was that Space Elrond?" Like.. I don't want to get excited that it could be good, because it looks like a very gritty, almost Firefly-esque twist on the Trek universe.. but at the same time, I like Firefly, and while I doubt they're really going to adhere to anything in the established Trek canon, I'm interested to see what the premise is. In any case, I already have Prime anyway, so no reason not to check it out.- 2171 replies

I don't really need two, but I basically plan on kitbashing one with one of my Hikaru versions, and painting it in a not sucky scheme.
-
Working now, go for it! https://hlj.com/hi-metal-r-vf-4g-lightning-iii-bans58061
-
HLJ still doesn't load the HMR VF-4 if you search "VF-4," despite the listing being there. I think the link we have might be a preliminary listing, considering there's no image.
-
I got one from AmiAmi, so not too worried, but HLJ is just flat broken tonight. I've loaded, added to cart, failed to check out, removed from cart, re-added, and failed again, at least 10 times across three different browsers. I think they actually broke the listing itself.
-
So... HLJ has been sitting telling me to refresh my cart, because something about the order changed. WTF?
-
Either that, or their search function is completely useless. Given the recent history, I'm betting that's the more likely option. It hasn't worked since they removed the advanced search option.
-
I think I can only call this Pre-order Mild-Dysfunction. Really was easy to get through AmiAmi, even with the site crashing.
-
Why is HLJ's search so utterly terrible now?

STAR WARS Merchandise Episode - 2
Chronocidal replied to Black Valkyrie's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
That's kind of the one I meant, but the mechanisms in that particular X-Wing mold seemed to get sloppier and lousier with every new issue. Seriously needs a revamp using wings that aren't sloppy vinyl, an s-foil mechanism that isn't so limp that the top wings are level, properly scaled engine exhausts, and a nose that doesn't look like Luke spent an hour trying to ram through a closed hangar bay door. -

Fun as it would be to have one in that scale, I'd much rather they just stick to the original pseudo-studio scale mold, and refine it so the wing mechanism doesn't suck. -
Yeah, I wouldn't blame them for not doing anymore at all, but I was hoping they would at least try and capitalize on Mirage's, since I figure that's the best chance we have at ever seeing the conehead version. I don't mind Keith's, but I really wanted a couple with the normal delta wing.

I'm guessing prepping it for some necessary paintwork. Honestly, I think this might be the only Bandai Macross product that can be taken this far apart on purpose.
-
I really don't care how she did it, I just want Bandai to get around to making the other 262s. We got the last of the main characters, so unless they plan on another Kairos version (which I will happily buy several of), we're long overdue for some of the other valks shown in the series. I want at least three 262-Ba versions, including Mirage, Bogue, and the Elvis version. We should also see Arad's and Chuck's packs... someday. Maybe they're waiting for another Delta movie to make anything new?

STAR WARS Merchandise Episode - 2
Chronocidal replied to Black Valkyrie's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Got my kit over the weekend, and can confirm the holes are drilled wider from the inside. If it doesn't make the holes too big though, I might actually take a needle file to them and cut out square corners for a lot of them. The little round holes just don't look right. (Would also help to have a yellow bulb, rather than blue-white.) The bonkers part though is that they included the bulk of the windowed sections in both solid and clear plastic... with the holes drilled in both. I would have much preferred to just use the transparent pieces, and scratch off paint where I wanted lights to show through. Also, the box is obnoxiously huge. It's probably about the same footprint as the PG Falcon, but a quarter of the thickness. Don't know why they didn't make it more compact, and thicker, because there's really a ton of room inside for no particularly good reason. I'm probably going to save the cover art, but ditch the box and store the parts in something easier to store in my closet. -
Your most recent Macross or toy purchase! General thread.

Waiting on my Max 1A, since I shipped it slower, but should be here soon I hope! Also, for those tracking the 1/100 fighter collection, next two are announced. Don't know much about the F-1, but the F-4J looks like it might be this bicentennial scheme. -
WAR OF THE WORLDS Trailer. BBC (Miniseries)
Chronocidal replied to 505thAirborne's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I'm going to be that weirdo who preferred the Tom Cruise movie to most other depictions of the story, just because I felt it flowed better, stuck mostly to the original premise, and didn't spend so much time navel gazing. Granted, I read the book a very long time ago (probably before high school), so I may get more from it now, but I remember a good chunk of the center section of the book being one of the most mind-numbing slogs I've ever experienced. Based off that impression, I thought the treatment of the situation with the farm house in the Cruise version was actually a fair upgrade.- 22 replies

It's not completely unheard of, since I believe they do reissue certain products sold on the TWE site, like certain Gundam kits, and possibly some of the other related merchandise. Their history with Macross TWE items though has been a case of "better buy it during the first run, or may God have mercy on your wallet." The most painfully egregious case was the VF-25 armor packs. Despite reissuing both Alto's and Ozma's VF-25s multiple times, the armor packs were never sold again. You know.. despite the fact that Ozma was never seen without his, and his set was basically the most iconic mech design in the entire series. Everyone invested in Bandai Macross merchandise knows their standard operating procedure, so when Bandai issues a product that is designed to be compatible with a pile of products they haven't even confessed that they're making yet, you buy the exclusive pieces in advance. I hadn't heard about the re-release of the missiles, but maybe there's hope that this strike pack pre-order mess drilled into their head how terrible their treatment of their customers is with those sorts of exclusive extras, and releasing a single production run of an extra that applies to an entire product line that may go for several years still is just an incredibly stupid idea.
-
Yeah, Bandai shot themselves in the foot with the strike packs, due to the way they released them. Since they included swappable colored skull insignias for the entire squad, they showed their hand for future releases, and it somehow didn't dawn on them that people, knowing how often TWE items are re-released, would buy multiple sets ahead of time to use on future DX VF-1s.

I don't mean the font changed. I mean the font is wrong. Trek has used the exact same font face for every ship marking since TMP going forward. It's a fairly standard font, "Starfleet Bold Extended BT / Millennium." Two variants, one with outlines for registries, one without for text. Unless this is some incredibly oddball case where the CGI artists just didn't care because the ship would never be seen that closely, they screwed it up hard. Actually.. given how similarly screwed-up the arrowhead logo is, it might just be that their printing process is not capable of printing on angled surfaces. The whole logo looks twice as tall as it should be. Also, yuck. That paintjob is nasty. What even happened there? It honestly looks like someone ran over it, because the shaded panels look like treadmarks.

I think the "panic" comes from the fact that they're not moving forward with what anyone actually wants them to release. (ie the destroids and zentraedi stuff) They're digging into the previous releases, and selling non-canon (and mostly uninspired) rehashes. People want the movie they came to see to start playing, but they keep spamming us with trailers for unwanted sequels.
-
I'm more curious about the sudden change in font on the markings along the side of the ship. Still looks good though, it is one of the few non-plot focus vessels designed to look really good on screen.

Yeah, I'm not going to stress if I can't get a pre-order. Odds are this one will be available without much trouble.

If that lance is one large piece, how sturdy is the material at the thinnest part of the handle? That looks like the weight of the part may be enough to just snap it, unless there is some sort of stronger internal reinforcement.
