  1. YOU can't infer what my answer would be based on my post?.....sorry I can't possibly make it any simpler for you.....

But anyway, how much more expensive is a Macross PT valk compared to a Macross CD?

Wow....so if the number of individual units of expensive Valks sold does not exceed that of individual CD sales......we should infer that VF and Mecha "pillar" should be eliminated from Macross?

    Really?

The valkyrie toys are expensive to produce, and have a razor thin profit margin and sell in small quantities.

CDs are cheap to produce and have high profit margin and sell in huge quantities.

  2. Yes...of course. The parallel world explanation is merely a device to shrug off inconsistencies between the shows. It's Macross's Grand Unified Theory!

However, the three main concepts of Macross will never change and can be expected to be played out in each animated series, including the next one. Thanks for posting the vid.

Actually, during the same Q&A session Producer Kawamori complained that the 3 pillars of Macross limited what he could do story wise. He wanted to get rid of one to be able to tell a new type of Macross story. He already did this once with the Musiculture.

  3. If this is indeed the case, does that not undermine his whole premise about all the media being dramatic points of view of the same historical events?? The guy needs to settle on what he wants! Either they are parallel worlds or they are dramatic interpretations of historical events....

in a nutshell, he changed his mind. that is just what we heard when he did his question and answer session at the takarazuka macross museum event. tomorrow he may have a different explanation. but for now each and every macross story takes place in an independent parallel world.

  4. I will actually give M7 some credit here. It was a disappointment to the fans of the original. M7 fit the times for the younger generation of highly emotional effeminate males. It did bring some fans into the franchise with its different reach (very similar to Star Wars episode 1) but still only had 10% of the audience that SDFM did (someone posted the viewer numbers once).

I think you are missing the even more obvious effect of M7. It was not "highly emotional effeminate males" but actual young girls that was brought into Macross fandom. Initially male fans of M7 may have been indifferent to this, but once the girls grew up to be women of child bearing age, they quickly saw the benefits.

The result is, today we have another generation of Macross fans, who are the offspring of fans of M7. Living here in Japan I have seen ample proof of this. At the last crossover live event, fully half of the audience were female. During the performance of Totsugeki Love Heart, Yoshiki Fukuyama had the audience sing the chorus, with directions that all the females do it, followed by the males. The female sung chorus was just as loud, if not louder than the males.

And those young girls, are now middle aged women with discretionary income. One of the few macross events still frequently being held, is the Oshare Macross. Held at the Marui department stores they have merchandice like jewelry and such that is primarily marketed towards women. This puts money in the pockets of Big West, funding future Macross products.

Even if some of us are not M7 fans, we must thank the series for ensuring the future of Macross.

Please, Agent ONE. visit us in Japan and lets have a drink at Fire BomBAR and you can see how diverse the M7 fanbase actually is.

  5. you may think its simple, but to do that an expensive metal rig has to be built that fits flush to the side of the monsters face, just to print that one detail.

Is that why they don't do the tampo printing? That the toys are limited run in general? I always wondered why they don't do the simple stuff like for instance way back when the konig monster came out I was unhappy that they didn't print the two eyeballs symbls on the sides. So I guess we can just put it down to them being a smaller company?

  6. two things you say that are mutualy exclusive are tampo printing and limited run. The cliché(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pad_printing) is very expensive, the smaller the run the greater the cost per unit. If you make a 100,000 units like a star wars toy, the cost per unit becomes negligible. But for under 5,000 unit runs like for Macross, its cost prohibitive.

If they were to do premium edition versions of the toys where everything was tampo printed I would probably buy it.

The 30th anniversary VF-1 though with all the colors of the rainbow? Naaah. not my thing.

Maybe they should do a poll asking how much collectors would pay to have a toy where you didn't have to add the stickers and do limited run of these for the lazy people like me? I find it annoying to do personally. And then there is the problem of them rubbing off easily over time. I could make an exception for VF-17 though since it is a stealth valk and having logos would be stupid. The marking would not make sense.

  7. Went on a shopping spree in denden town Osaka with Variable Fighter and another MF member today. Met them at Firebombar the night before and they graciously offered to show me and my wife around all the best collectable stores and I picked up an insane amount of valks and other macross collectibles (with the help of my amazing wife!). I shipped them all today so no pics yet. I'll wait till they get home and show my full macross haul from my Japan trip all at once! But the best deals of the day were a version 1 elintseeker for 6000 yen and a miriya vf22s for 7000 yen both boxed and perfect condition from mandarake. I can't even begin to describe how awesome that place is.

Glad to help. See you again next time.

  8. No I mean like tactical missile battery turrets theoretically perched right on top of solid concrete wall sections and that unload there ammo until the monster of the week falls over dead. ICBMs have the luxury of being hidden away in carved out bunkers as a one-shot weapon for the rare event of nuclear war, but even still are being decommissioned left and right because they are so expensive to f

the main reason I see, is that it would make for a boring movie.

  9. Who says a Japanese company won't make Pacific Rim figures? I can definitely see Kaiyodo releasing them as part of the Revoltech line. The Revoltech line has certainly been focused on Hollywood stuff lately.

As for the suggestion that the movie was unpopular in Japan... well if true, I'm quite sure that politics has little or nothing to do with it. I can think of more non-political reasons why the movie wasn't a hit at the theaters.

That said, the reviews on Amazon Japan (under the Blu-ray release) are very favorable towards the movie.

It was my fault for bringing up the politics. I vote to drop it and just carry on with instead, which toy company anywhere in the world should make Pacific Rim toys, and why.

  10. NOPE. We need a thumbs down smiley. Revoltech has proved to be the ultimate crap in the collecting figures world. Its the poor mans toy. The plastic eventually looks like its melting. Nah I give it to Sentinel. Man look at what they did with the getters. No one has done such an amazing job as Sentinel to make a bunch of overly obese robots look so dam good.

well the sentinel costs 500% of what the revoltech version does, so naturally it is much higher quality. And sentinel still lacks others in its line to play with.

  11. Wow! I never knew the tensions were so high. It will certainly make me think twice about ever visiting Japan (being Chinese).

Please dont take it wrong, its about Japanese not liking the Movie Pacific Rim, not you. If you visit I will be glad to show you around the Kansai area. And the Tokyo guys would likely say the same. And we will all introduce you to Japanese who have no problem with whatever nationality you are.
