  1. I may not be a Mac7 convert yet but I am most definitely impressed by Fukuyama's performance. I did wonder out loud when he sang Totsugeki Love Heart 'earlier than expected' during his segment, but when it was time for the encore and he plucked the chords for Diamond Crevasse in accompaniment to May'n's pure vocals, the night was complete. I really, really wish the official recordings will be released somehow. The sound system was actually much improved over last year's and was only let down by the overly bass-heavy equalization of the backing tracks. When Fukuyama played the guitar, every note was crystal clear. Hope very much to catch him and his F-Band (or JAM Project) next year! :-)
  2. Weighted legs = ballast for stable posing without stand.
  3. Well, Robot Damashii = mostly plastic; Revoltech = mostly PVC I'd take the less sticky option whenever I can. :-)
  4. Yup, that's the part. I mean, i don't have a problem with swapping the hip-guns since the Super Packs, but the even larger size of the Armored Pack version means they can't even flip-out 90-degrees like previously. Reading the instructions, I'd expected: 1. Remove stock hip-guns 2. Insert Armored hip-guns There is no 3.... right? Wrong. You've got to: 3. Separate the outer hip armor from the new hip-guns 4. Attach ONLY the new hip-guns after leg armor is done but BEFORE you lock the legs to the wings for fighter mode 5. Reattach the outer hip armor onto a squirming piece of hip-gun almost purely by FEEL because the pegs don't align easily Hmm.
  5. Got mine today! Well, I love the overall aggro styling, but the previous problems with the intake armor are now transferred to the hip-armor. Trying to put those pieces on in fighter mode (or any mode) is pretty frustrating. I simply take the exercise as a one-time deal – I am not likely to ever take the armor off. Graham is right about the poorly designed forearm armor: poor oversight on an otherwise solid figure. Right now, I've got the Skull Squadron lined up thus: To make space, ol' Konig is back in battroid mode. I tried using the new 'gerwalk struts' from Armored Ozma to see if it could improve the stance on Michel's ride. In a word: NO. The struts restrict the legs to the 'official' straight-up connected pose, so it's only helpful for supporting the armored pack gerwalk ON THE STAND. Still, Armored Battroid cuts a real mean presence. I don't give a rats ass if the number of missiles is correct... the effect of seeing all those Yoshinol cans is good enough for me. 8/10
  6. Well, the armored 25S should arrive in Singapore soon, but meanwhile here are a couple of pix of the GALLIA 4 SET for Michel's ride: Basically, the set is priced to milk every drop you've got to give, but what the heck, the episode where the sonic gear is used is pretty fun and memorable. It's also a good excuse to strip off the Super Pack and display something a little more unique. At the moment, I've got Alto saluting while cradling the sniper rifle, and the otherwise useless fold booster (pink!) strapped onto Ozma's jet. FWIW, the finishing on the 4 speakers look really nice, with a metallic green finish on the main diaphragm and alternate colored 'lights' for the inner and outer pieces. The clip-on attachment is of course non anime-accurate... A closer look at the miniscule Ranka Lee in trademark 'Kira Kira' pose. This will probably be the only VF-25 I'll keep in gerwalk mode. Looking forward to Ozma's 'bulky-lee' :-)
  7. Ah. Maybe Yamato USA will continue to be the saints and ship fully acclimatised models to those who have trouble with the joint in question?
  8. Here's my Patlabor shelf at the moment. Most recent additions are the OVA red Brocken (after HLJ went on 50% discount), and the 2 sets of CM's figure collections. The whole enchilada... Still hoping for saner prices on the AVS and Mk-II, and an eventual P2 edition of the 1/24 Ingram. Close up of Capt Gotoh's car, 3 slacker mechs, SV2-2 members (except Izumi & Ohta in their AV-98s), and Chief Mech Sakaki. I think the female figure next to the stooping Gotoh is probably Nagumo. AND, I have made an unofficial 'upgrade' for the Ohta's old Taisyo by grafting a pair of real hands from the Zero's spares. looks pretty kosher to me! :-) The Type-98 Command Car... luckily it's the same design in the 1st movie as well as the TV series. (I didn't care for the boxy version in the 1st OVA). Shigeo is calling the shots as other crew members tend to Ohta's Ingram. BTW, I also purchased some diecut white circle stickers from a stationery shop and used them to cover the gaping screw holes on my Ingrams. Just out of the frame: 2 more mechs racing in with a revolver cannon on trolley. Kanuka's Ingram 3 versus the unloved Brocken... and the 'old' Charawheels Command Car sitting pretty between the giants.
  9. These limited production 'toys' are just like hot fashion items. You like it, you splurge right away. Or else you wonder what might have been.
  10. Saw it on Saturday. Saya was well-acted but some parts of the Japanese flashbacks produced unintentional laughs because the old bodyguard played things too seriously. Didn't really care for the new girl character. Sword fights were entertaining, but Saya came off as almost invincible. Ending was weak. 6/10
  11. Excellent! I see you've modified the Taisyo's arms :-)
  12. Oh, THOSE :-) What you're looking at are no-name bootlegs. I had a couple of them for awhile before giving them away to my neighbor's kid. They're hard plastic, 13" tall. The mold is based off the pretty good Bandai LMHG kits, although the joints are simplified of course (no molded rubber forearms etc). Nice for display but the big let-down is the no-pose chop-chop hands. They simply can't hold any of the provided (undersized) weapons. If you were crazy enough to replace/mod the hands, then you could have more fun. Another minus: the hip joints are incredibly loose and there is no polycap in the leg socket to help.
  13. Thanks for your input on these, Penguin. Wow, you really bit the bullet on the plastic AVS! orz I'm definitely getting those as well but probably after the prices 'subside' on HLJ. At a local store, they cost 110 USD each!! As for the WAVE Helldiver, as much as I like the design, I will probably pass – in the hopes of a CM's version someday. As for the Yamato Ingram, I think these will only be made in limited quantities due to the price and economic situation. So, the P2 version that I'm hoping to see will probably come out at an opportune time, like in... 2013? (20th anniversary of the movie's release). That's 5 years from now, but looking at how the 1/48 VF-1s have been rolling out non-stop, I think that's how it's gonna be.
  14. Excellent! Do you like one over the other? From the shot, it's obvious the WAVE Helldiver is definitely going to be larger than the CM's Ingram... which makes me wonder how to gauge the CM's scale all over again.
  15. That's one of the biggest unanswered questions around here. Nobody has seen a proper photo of the WAVE Ingram next to the CM's version. WAVE claims their scale is 1/48, while CM's doesn't state their scale. Also, the CM's Ingram is roughly 17.3cm to the tip of its big antenna; the WAVE Helldiver is 17cm to the top of its head. Makes me think the Helldiver will look physically larger than the CM's Ingram.
  16. Gorgeous shots, I love the lighting! I only got my armor set recently and work has kept me from taking pix.
  17. Pix from Japan's 2chan bbs of the just released CM's AVS and Mark-II: I like the retention of the cockpit feature, but I'm not sure if the pilot figure is included... might have to make do with a spare from the gohkin releases. Also, it seems the ugly sprue scar on the sample's cockpits has been greatly reduced. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for a sale... someday.
  18. From the head shots, it seems the face shield is peeking up a bit more than I'd like. Makes Alphonse look sleepy!
  19. New album 'Fantasies' by Canadian indie-rockers METRIC: http://ilovemetric.com I love how they channel the best of the Pixies dynamics with well written songs :-)
  20. I'll wait for the P2 edition, thanks! (And a sale)
  21. Yes it is, isn't it? But I just felt that Izumi's 'regular' opponents were the Tyrant, Pickel-Kun, Griffon; while Ohta fought Brocken more. At least that's how I remember from the manga. He would go for his pistol and then his fists before using the stick! LOL When I first handled the figure after the limbs popped off, I remember imagining what the Chinese factory workers would say:"!@#$ this sh!t. YOU try to insert tiny peg joints under a cloth cover at 50 pieces per hour, 7 days a week. Foreman's not gonna be able to SEE the limp-legs anyway."
  22. Yeah, that might work. But, I think the 1/60 gun will make the Brocken look out of proportion, like a midget wielding a MG. Also, the pistol grip on the 1/6 is thicker than the included versions.
  23. Yo. In any case, you should indeed obtain at least ONE of the CM's Brave Gohkin Ingrams. I'd chosen the 'TV' route over the movie versions because... well, there are just a LOT MORE labors featured in the TV and OVA series. After you've gotten the Ingram, and seen how wel made it is, you'd probably want the Brave Gohkin Griffon next. The harder to find version is the web-exclusive 'Aqua' pack... comes with thrashed No. 2 head in Griffon's fist! :-) As for the terrible, terrible M.A.S. AV-0 and Brocken... wait for a sale at HLJ to minimize any pains. With your modeling skills, you shouldn't have much problems dealing with the joints.
  24. And now for Brocken on the wrong side of the law! Here's a classic re-imagined encounter with Ohta's No. 2 Ingram... Hard to beat the sheer power of mil-spec labors... Ohta takes a left to the head... gets him MAD! Deftly applied stunstick whacks the visor (and the operator's smile) away... Coup de grace... Ohta style. THE END.
  25. When you find yourself in times of trouble, MG-42 calls out to me... Too bad the supplied 'power hose' is too short to connect the gun to the waist port. Detailing is pretty good for a solid-molded piece. Nothing fancy, you have to attach the fix-folded bi-pod and the side-swivel handle. Pretty 'Jin-Roh' if you let your imagination run wild :-) For the curious, the up-sized weapons are NOT 1/6 scale, as can be seen here compared with a Dragon Toys MG-42 below.
