Ok, hello everyone! I've been gone from this thread for a while. School work is never done, but the semester is almost over. Thanks to Gubaba I finally have a good copy of the first 20 episodes of the remastered set I was looking for. Now that I've caught up and just watched through ep. 4 I can finally give my opinions. However since I'm late I'll focus on ep. 4. I'd like to note though I have been reading everything up till now, I agree with a lot of it as well. You know I usually hate the vampire gimmick, but it is different enough this time that it doesn't bother me so much. I'd like to look the other direction for a second and note the enemy characters. Gigil is already getting annoyed with Gepelnitch (that is how I'm going to spell it from this point on, it has like 7 different spellings and I can't keep up). It is clear why Gigil ultimately ended up going against Gepelnitch, though the real reason he does later is a certain Protodeviln, but we won't talk about that plot device just yet. Still he seems to be fed up with Gepelnitch going behind his back on some plan he sees no point on. Gigil prefers the old attack and drain their spiritia technique that worked for them in the past. Since this is supposed to be early on I'll feign knowledge of what the past for them really is since we aren't suppose to know yet. Soo.... anyone else wonder why they designed City 7 to have buildings protrude out the dome? That seems to be just reckless and dangerous. The tops of those buildings better be super airtight and heavily fortified because if they blow off you have a huge air leak for the dome. While we are on the fact of the easy to reach buildings... fat lot of good that protective shell did. They started closing it at the beginning of the battle and it didn't finish until after the battle ended, lol. Of course I know why, the power to move that shell is all in the hinge at the front and moving something from a hinge of that much mass (the shell must have a lot of mass/be heavily armored to be strong enough to resist attack) isn't easy so of course it will move slow. Also you don't want the shell closing fast because if something that massive just smacks down on the dome it could cause massive damage... not to mention wrecking the protruding buildings... The Frontier Island One dome got it right. Got rid of the protrusions and even was able to close the shell on a dime. Still a lot of mass to move at once but it is clear to me (from an engineering standpoint) that the Island One dome on Frontier was designed to be able to let the shell close down quicker without worrying about any damage as a result. I'd feel safer under that dome than City 7. So yeah I didn't talk about any character stuff save for Gigil, but most people got to that already and I was late even for this episode. Maybe next week I'll get in something good for ep. 5. Hell I'll write up the first review if you like... that is if studying for my finals doesn't get in the way...

Because Perceptor is freaking awesome.. though I'd try using bigger words myself. Staying on topic... I haven't watched 2 yet... sorry.

People need to learn about external hard drives... makes these problems moot.

You know you're a Macross addict when you....
Master Dex replied to Morpheus's topic in Movies and TV Series
I don't see why you'd need to enter a time loop in order to make yourself in the past remember to watch the episode. Just go back in time, dispose of your forgetful self and take your own place and watch the episode as you should have. Rightful order restored, no need to loop a section of space-time causing havoc for other people. All in all just doing that results in about 3 new quantum universes being made, and the original (relatively speaking) is still the one where you missed the episode and then disappeared after going back in time, but nonetheless, from a personal stand point the problem is solved. -
I always thought the only thing that stopped humanity from becoming more like the Zentradi was the Zentradi themselves, when they kind of killed everyone. True Minmay changed how everyone on the Macross as it was, but no one else on Earth even knew who she was. Minmay was only a galactic superstar because of the population of Earth was zapped (quite effectively I might add). The people of the Macross were bound together alone by more than Minmay music though, everyone else on Earth seemed to be against them, and the super cool totally awesome Global wasn't about to just let nothing come of these people after all they went through. In the end a lot of Zentradi were cultured but it wasn't really the rousing success of Fleet of the Strongest Women (will not talk further since that is a later episode) but this came about with the annihilation of the human race and Bodolza had to be killed as well. I believe in the power of song and culture as much as anyone here and that it can do a lot, but in the end it wasn't Minmay or her music that helped humanity become better, that only made some 50,000 people get along well enough and cause some giant aliens to rethink their life. In the end what helped humanity become better and a little less belligerent was several million big honkin space guns. Also Global still feared they'd become like the Zentradi one day after getting the factory satellite, they were preparing to fight another war if more Zentradi showed up. The Colonization project was the next step in stopping them from becoming worse. Spreading them out was the best way, but that also thins the influence of said culture. It isn't that surprising that despite what people know as true in history, some people like the bridge bunnies regarded the Minmay effect as something from that movie (DYRL), and others have just forgotten there are other ways but just shooting it out and hoping to get around to the next day, because that method of dealing with things never quite went away either. Remember not all Zentradi laid down arms quietly. Some might not see the music taming method as being really that effective, after 35 years people might think all Minmay did was give the people on the Macross a morale boost. Some remember of course (Max, Millia, Exsedol, Chiba, etc.) but they were around back then. If you ask me, humanity doesn't do that great a job of teaching the newer generations just how important music and culture is to their race after SW1. People keep having to learn it over again!

That was nice technobabble there (about the Diamond Force bit). I'd like to do a technobabble match someday, see how long we can go against each other. As for the explosions... hmm... Well I just was letting myself suspend disbelief that somehow those explosions were causing shock waves for those people. Clearly that makes no sense but I never thought that it might be something else. *puts on engineering hat because he feels oddly compelled to dwell on this when he shouldn't* If we go by your idea, then hmm... well we have to assume the dome is made out of a durable material. Can't be glass that would be too fragile for space. Plastics wouldn't take much of a beating before giving either. I think we'd have to assume some type of transparent steel or aluminum, which we have yet to successfully create on a large scale, but in the age of M7 it is quite conceivable. I would have to hope the dome is rated against high kinetic energy impacts. I could do the equations to find the approximate kinetic energy of an impact collision of something the size of a valkyrie with a large surface like the dome... but it is the weekend and I don't feel like doing Dynamics homework right now, lol. It would depend on the velocity of the object anyway and that is only a guess for that at best. Assuming something like a valkyrie impacting our dome wouldn't cause a rupture resulting is explosive decompression, then it comes down to whether or not the impact would generate some type of internal shock wave off the dome wall that could generate the resultant wind. I have to admit I find such a thing highly unlikely. More likely I'd see a tremor induced from the impact, but it the mass of City 7 compared to the impacting mass might make it negligible. I think no matter how we look at it, we need to be able to suspend our disbelief. Even if the dome was cracking due to such stresses I'd be more worried about explosive decompression which would cause the wind to go in the other direction, lol. So it really doesn't matter which it is, just that we don't dwell on it too much as we will never figure it out, lol. I just remembered though that Frontier showed dome ruptures due to fire and impact. The kind of impacts there would certainly cause cracking and rupturing like what we saw in Frontier. Definitely a good idea Frontier had those emergency decompression shelters, I assume they are there in City 7 as well. *takes off engineering hat and hides it thinking he might have talked too much again while trying to examine a pointless subject* ...

Kind of yeah. However I've noticed when Veffidas starts drumming Planet Dance without any other instruments it doesn't quite sound like you'd expect. Though come to think of it it would make more sense if she was drumming Totsugeki Love Heart.... hmm... Just what is she playing at?

Ok, just got around to watching ep.1. Granted I only first saw the show about a year and a half ago, but it still brings back memories to when I didn't really know where the story was going. I remember when I first started watching this show I was someone who came it thinking I was going to hate it based on what I heard from other people. When I first saw the first episode, the music was a bit catchy by having just come up of several rather amazing episodes of Frontier, I was left disillusioned rather quickly. Some time later after having watched the entire SDF Macross in it's original form (for the first time I might add, before it was just Robotech, man was I missing out). I decided I should keep going and try to watch the rest of Macross 7 and give it a chance. I watched the first episode again just to get back into what was going on. I was still left somewhat confused by a lot of things (mostly the stuff Gubaba mentioned). I wonder how an explosion in space can cause large gusts of wind inside the city when it is sealed by a dome (especially when explosions in vacuum create no shock wave due to lack of air). Gubaba is right, this will probably never be answered. One thing that did get me though is, I could help me think that some of the songs, especially Totsugeki Love Heart (at the time I didn't know the names of any of them, I could name any Fire Bomber song today after 3 seconds of listening), was really catchy. I was liking the music. Maybe that is what kept me going and continued watching the show. Fast forward to now and after seeing the whole thing I had to re-evaluate a lot of things. I've become a full fledged Fire Bomber/Yoshiki Fukuyama fan now, and loving that music really makes this show worthwhile (especially if you like Planet Dance, lol). I also now really do like this series. I hadn't seen episode one since the time when I didn't think I'd even like it at all. Watching this episode again after having gain a large appreciation for the series makes a huge difference! I really enjoyed seeing this again. The mystery of what Basara was going to be up to, when he shows up in a fight, shooting at everyone, only to reveal he is there to sing to the enemy (and anyone else willing to listen). Knowing what I know now the effort doesn't seem as crazy or pointless but then it was rather shocking. Seemed way more out there than anything I had seen in SDFM or even Frontier at the point of the show (which was only about half way through and didn't seem as far fetched to me then). Also I have to agree with Pete, despite everything we say in the Gamlin appreciation thread if we ignore all that comes later, episode one Gamlin is a prick, lol. This was a great idea I think to revisit this show in paced intervals instead of some marathon. I'll look forward to seeing the next one again, and examining what it is Pete says there that proves Basara is more three dimensional than many think (though I already believe it). I only wish I could watch the show is pristine awesome quality. Without Torrent access until later this month though I'm stuck with watching the episodes on Veoh, which is how I saw the show the first time actually, lol.

Wish I could do torrents through my school's network, but I cant. I think I'll be doing that download while I'm home for thanksgiving though. I'd love to have the remastered series now. I'd also love to join in on this, but I haven't rewatched ep.1 yet so I'll come back when I have. Could be today, or tomorrow. I'm too busy marathon listening to Re.Fire right now since I only just got it in the mail (****ing postal service), lol.

That clever evil son of a ..... ahem, that is, only he could find a way to broadcast the worst butchering of great music to the whole galaxy, lol.

FINALLY!!! My ReFire CD finally arrived today. Figures it would come a day after I downloaded an online copy. Murphy's Law is my life. Having listened to everything at least once, this is an amazing album. Here is to more Fire Bomber as time goes on! We really should get some translations of those liner notes, I've heard some things but I'd like to read it all too.

I finally am able to listen to all the songs of ReFire, not because my CD finally arrived, no I am still waiting very aggravated for that to happen. I can listen now because a download that isn't a torrent is finally available (by markcell unsurprisingly). Since I have it on the wait (supposedly) anyway, this will do for now. BOMBAA!!

You an also get Flexi-Displays from the source... LAFToys... I don't often post here (I have no pictures to share) but I see often that no matter how many times it is mentioned where the stands come from, no one really ever seems to know. For the record I don't even have any, but I want some. I am waiting till I get my second valk (I only have one). I don't know when that will be.

Also people, let us not forget: GAMLIN KICK!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wah.. I still don't have ReFire... I think something got messed up with my shipment. It was shipped 10 days ago and I still don't have it. It has never taken me this long to get something from Japan or Hong Kong (it is Hong Kong in this case). I sent the people a message to let them know I am still waiting on the shipment. I have only heard the songs on Youtube... and I can't download a torrent in the meantime because my school's internet setup blocks Torrents.

The chances of finding a good dub of anything Macross related after Plus is zero so just find a decent sub, unless that is what you meant. Macross 7 varies from person to person, but Fire Bomber is just awesome no matter what.

Bandai 1/72 Scale Macross Frontier Model Kit Thread Ver.3
Master Dex replied to azrael's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
This might not be the right place for it, but has there been any update on that 1/48 VF-25 model, is that actually going to happen? If so will they due all of the 25s or just Alto? On a side note, I might have to get that VF-27... -
Wow, the new animation actually makes me like how Minmay looks. I never was the biggest fan of Minmay (songs are good though). I like the new Millia artwork and the opening sequence (need it in full HD!)

Just to add on to that, Max also barely aged in 35 years, but the reason for that was explained by one of the show runners as an effect of him being a 'genius'. Can't argue with that, lol.

Continuing to wait for my copy of ReFire to ship... don't know what is taking so long, the order has been in 'preparing order' stage for almost a week now... I might have to give them a call. EDIT: It was shipped this morning, finally! Now I play the waiting game... again.

You can be in thousands of battles without being really old. It isn't like they only had one battle per year. There were probably battled everyday. These are the Zentradi we are talking about here.

Thank you, I'm glad someone gets it. I am actually not against debating physics of stuff from TV shows, but if it isn't even going to be discussed correctly (no offense to anyone) then there is no point. It is best to remember in the long term stuff is done to look cool, discussing physics is not to explain things but to try and reconcile how it might work if such a thing could be real (more for the purpose of amusement in my case rather than me actually thinking it could be done).

People need to stop arguing about the physics of the asteroid sniper scene please! First of all some of those physics are really off (though one of the posts got it mostly right), and before you bash me for saying that I am very saddened that I know enough to say I know that some of the physics conversation here wasn't right... I now know I really am an engineer.... I think we need to let the asteroid sniper thing go, it isn't worth it. Itano is both partly right and partly wrong, I'm not elaborating on my opinion because it really doesn't matter (someone will disagree anyway). What I will say though is, that asteroid sniper scene was freaking awesome, as well as any itano circus scene. I don't really care what the man bad mouths, stuff looks cool.

That also comes with the 1/48s though probably larger. Just a fill in piece, on the 1/48s it helps keep the backpack from falling when the Super parts boosters are attached. I don't know about the 1/60 version.

Master Dex replied to Morpheus's topic in Movies and TV Series
I'm a Macross addict because my fascination with the Fire Bomber music made me like Macross 7 and it set me on a path to listening and becoming a full on fan of Yoshiki Fukuyama. Indeed, BOMBAA!!
