  1. Hi folks, we have a new podcast up at: www.destroyallpodcasts.com Continuing our Gainax theme, it's Royal Space Force: The Wings of Honneamise!
  2. Wow, you're right. Now that you mention it, that DOES sound like Mospeada. Mospeada DID have a half-assed budget with weak, inconsistent animation and poor dialogue. The entire series was animated by AnimeFriend and it doesn't look so hot even for the '80s.

    Jetfire

I do have all of Masterforce.org on my hard drive at home, yes.

    Jetfire

Well, I'm the Ginrai who ran the website Masterforce.org and I was using the name in the '90s so it wasn't that common when I started using it. But yeah, I'm the same Ginrai who posts crap on CollectionDX pretty regularly these days.
  5. Uh, and everyone went on about how stupid it was the Toynami Valkyries had lights.

    Jetfire

Yeah, I was the one who wrote that analysis of Jetfire variations. Notice that it's attributed to Ginrai.

Convertors were not bootlegs either. They were just domestic releases of really cheap train station toys that were poor quality in the first place, manufactured originally by Takatoku's partner that handled their cheapy releases, Mark. Some of the Convertors releases even have Takatoku or the TT diamond logo on them.

    Jetfire

Jetfire never came with a heatshield.
  9. For the record, my podcast is nothing like this stuff.
  10. Nitpicky fans whining about a toy being chunky does not mean the toy sold badly. They were toys for children, who were the main audience of Macross 7. If they were such bad sellers, I doubt Bandai would have bothered to reissue them. I didn't say anything about you bashing Bandai, I just said what you were saying wasn't based on any facts. Okeedokie.
  11. How do you know they didn't sell? And Bandai has put out a lot of Macross branded crap over the years (remembering that Banpresto is part of Bandai), but they didn't do a big push with deluxe toys again until there was another TV series, which is pretty typical of Bandai's modus operandi. You're making a lot of unfounded assumptions about Bandai.
  12. Well the original poster was complaining that the train TFs he's seen favor robot mode over train mode and these ones favor train mode over robot mode, which seemed to be what he was looking for. Though you're right, the combined JRX or Rail Racer mode looks really good.
  13. JRX / Rail Railer from Transformer: Car Robot a.k.a. Transformers: Robots in Disguise are really good.
  14. Hahaha. Okay! We can do that. I have Brother. I do want to do some of the older stuff like Sonatine first, though.
  15. Well there's that, but I think the character drama is very different. Gunbuster is a story about losing touch with friends and loved ones and friends and loved ones dying. Evangelion is a story about very damaged people who can't relate to others in a normal manner. Gendo is controlling and afraid of human contact, Shinji is a crazy suicidal shut in with no self esteem, Rei is basically autistic, Asuka has serious self esteem issues and overcompensates with aggression, Misato's daddy left her when she was really little too, but instead of being a shut in like Shinji she tries to sleep with men or at least flirt with/tease them to get them to like her... it's just a parade of mental conditions like a Psychology 101 text book. Yes, Noriko has daddy issues but everyone in Evangelion needs some serious therapy. Well, Funimation only sent us the DVD and there wasn't anything like that there so I can't comment, but the I do hope that Shinji has more of a character arc this time instead of starting the series as a whiney crybaby and still being a whiney crybaby at the end like in End of Evangelion.
  16. Sometimes that can work, though. I think both Gundam and Baldios work great as films even though you can sometimes tell where stuff was cut out. I'm pretty sure Mike has a copy of that. I will bug him about it. Thanks for the suggestion!
  17. Well, also remember that we were not reviewing Evangelion, we were reviewing Evangelion 1.11, so I don't think there's really much to go into. Things like End of Evangelion have more meat we visually dissect, but that's not really going on in 1.11. Glad you liked it! We always try to avoid being dull and clinical. I'm sure we will! Maybe we'll even review 2.02 or whatever it's called if that comes out here first.
  18. Well, the show is always a balance of humor and serious criticism and we try to play to the material. More serious material = more serious criticism. I'm of the opinion that Evangelion 1.11 is really not that deep. It's a good monster movie, like Godzilla, done up with some meaningless Christian symbolism and psychological problems, but this film at least is nowhere near as clever as Gunbuster. So RahXephon, I understand there's a compilation movie, right? I doubt I could get the rest of the crew to sit through an entire series but we could probably do the movie. Is it any good? And we are definitely going to do some more John Woo stuff, but it had been a while since we did much anime so we're devoting some time to that for now. I do want to do more live action asian movies soon. I've been jonesing to do some yakuza movies (Beat Takeshi stuff, Kinji Fukasaku stuff), and that would be a good place to get our John Woo on. Do you have a particular John Woo movie you'd like to see us cover?
  19. What exactly didn't you like about this podcast?
  20. Hey there folks! We have a new podcast up at: www.destroyallpodcasts.com It's about Evangelion 1.11: You Are (Not) Alone. Yes, we finally talked about Evangelion. This is part of our ongoing Gainax series! Give us feedback, yo.
  21. Hope everyone enjoyed this! We've got a whole bunch more Gainax content coming. Next week: Evangelion 1.11.
  22. A) Kawamori didn't direct Macross 7 B) Macross obviously doesn't care and liberally uses both movie and series based on whatever the director or animator feels like that episode.
  23. But the feet are farther forward of the line on the VF-17.
  24. Uh, I think that's just foreshortening. The VF-17 is closer to the "camera", hence it appears larger.
