  1. From a business perspective I think I can sum up what Bandai was thinking with the SSP's. Did you buy Bandai SSP's? See where I'm going there? Solid business decision for Bandai. They are a for profit company. Not our buddies, not or friends, not looking out for our best interest, not doing it for the "love of the game", etc. I can assure you that a very, very small percentage of Bandai employees are toy fans. They may have been at one time, but doing something for a living has a habit of killing it as a love. I'm a perfect example. I'm in the fast car business. I used to LOVE fast cars. I've always had them. Now I don't want anything to do with them. I think what people aren't understanding about what Bandai does or doesn't is because they are looking at it from only the perspective of a fan. I'm not suggesting that what Bandai does or doesn't do is right or wrong. What they do or don't do just "is".
  2. I can think of 10 right off the top of my head. I understand the intricacies of design and production though. And the million things that can go wrong. Here is an example: The design works/worked in prototype and small scale production. It then goes to the subcontractor that is mass producing them and they have sloppy tolerances. The covers no longer stay on. Bandai decides to either have them glue the covers on or glued them on themselves before they were shipped. That is a business/budget decision. In this case they would have decided that timing and cost trumped the feature. It has nothing to do with ability or desire.
  3. Oh yeah, I've noticed. Bandai doing what Bandai does.

    1/55's revisited

Who is interested in CM updated and modernized SSP's? I've been kicking this around for a bit and a found a place to scan the existing SSP's from the 1984 Hikaru Strike in so I can play wit them in CAD. It's not cheap. About $1000. But, because I'm not interested in making any money on this project if there is even moderate interest costs can be covered to I can do it without losing money. My target would be to copy the Strike Parts. Unlike the CM Super parts they come apart like a Yamato/Arcadia/Bandai DX, etc SSP's. You can run them as Supers or Strikes. The covers are removable. I wouldn't do a whole lot with the arm and leg armors (open to suggestions though). I'd want to do an improvement on the Strike Cannon (quite a few) and some small improvements on the rest of the packs. Maybe work on proportions a bit too. They would be designed for easy disassembly so they could be painted without having to spend a ton of time taping stuff off. Once done they would be 3D printed. Real rough numbers here and they would change the more interest there is but I'm thinking $75/ set for the first 20 sets (covers scanning and printing fees I think) and if there is more interest that price comes down. So who is interested? I don't need a commitment. Just a "hey, I would be down for a couple three sets" or something. I'm trying to gauge what I'm getting myself into. Thanks

Decent deal on a Bandai re-issue VF-1A Super Kikaru. https://order.mandarake.co.jp/order/detailPage/item?itemCode=1149457958&lang=en&ref=mail
  6. Would that be a Metal Structure (or whatever that Gundam monster is called)? And yes, if they make a 1/35 Focker with SSP's I'm absolutely a buyer. I'd probably get two. Especially if they came in like the big Gundam with all the accessories. I'd go $900-1000 per unit.
  7. In anticipation of the Focker and TV FP release soon I'm wondering what symbols Hikaru had on his Super VF-1S Skull One in SDFM? I'm seeing some example with red kites and others with black skulls. I think it's the red kites. Someone is bound to tell me it's both because of animation inconsistencies though. Thanks guys!
  8. Have you considered that maybe you aren't doing it right? I've never had one pop off.
  9. IMO the DX looks "tougher". And you can pull of much more expressive poses than the Yamato's (bottom pic).
  10. A couple of 3D printed Rocinante's (two different paint jobs) from The Expanse.
  11. Groundhog Day, meets the Matrix, meets The Truman Show, meets every movie RR has been in where he plays himself (which got old a long time ago). Hard pass.
  12. You can throw the box away.

  14. A couple of JetFire's just landed. The one in Fighter mode is actually a Matsushiro. It has a Macross symbol on the wing. It's on B+ shape. I have some re-pop stickers on the way. I'm 50/50 on getting it opposed to a real JetFire. Holy smokes JetFire's are starting to go for some pretty big money. I was bidding on a few auctions that went up past $500 and then some. Those were with boxes. But not perfect. Finding one in decent shape without a box is tough. I had one that was bright white in the box about a year ago and sold it for some reason. I should have kept it.
  15. Absolutely do not handle one if you don't want them.

    1/55's revisited

Well, you dirt rats got me back on the Chunkie band wagon. I made some moves over the past few days to improve my collection. On of them was to steal the Strike Packs off of a 1984 Bandai VF-1S Hikaru (the Valk was a little rough) and a "S" head off of a Roy re-issue and put them on a 1A Super Hikaru re-issue so I have a all gray VF-1S Strike Hikaru. It's been driving me crazy that the 1984 VF-1S is white and the other DYRL Valks (1A Max and Hikaru) are gray. He;'s got the green arm armors (the old one won't fit the r-issues) still which is a little funky. But at some point I'll paint all of the Skull Squads SSP's a more screen accurate blue/green. Just bought another 1A Hikaru to replace the one I just butchered and another 1A Max which is getting converted to a Kakazaki. I'll have the whole DYRL Skull Squad in the same color gray.Well, except a naked VF-1S Max.....for now.
  18. Pretty good deal on a Gakken Cyclone. He sent me closer pics. Doesn't appear to be any yellowing. Also sounds like he will take a lower offer. I'm tempted. But I alreday have one. https://www.ebay.com/itm/353224316793?ul_noapp=true
  19. Or that the limits of an affordable design are nearing their development potential. The DX's cost the same as the Yamato (adjusted for inflation) to within a couple bucks. Bandai hit it out out of the park with some stuff and struck out on others. IMO the Bandai and Yamato are a tie. Some people will lean one way because of preferences and others vice versa. That makes it look a lot like there was X amount of Yen available and Yamato and Bandai prioritized differently. Could Bandai make something a lot better and address all the shortcomings? Absolutely. You can guarantee that the engineers/designers at Bandai wanted them to go out the door better. But cost constraints are cost constraints. A frustration of every designer everywhere. I run into the same frustrations with the products I design/sell. Can I make something better. OH HE!! YES I CAN! Will it price those items out of the market? Probably. I think the DX has the slight edge because they pose a LOT better and they look super tough in Battroid. But I will conceded that there are "line items" that go to the Yamato. It's not a bad world we live in when you have the choice between two great options and you can get the one that best suits your desires. What's to complain about? And if you happen to like Yammies, you get to do it for less $$. The price on them is coming down FAST.
  20. Well, it did say wish list!
  21. Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahah!!!! No!
  22. The post is still up. Goofballs I just PM's the Alex Villareal guy asking why you got banned.
