I don´t think it´s about whether Yamato will continue to produce more macross toys after they´re done with the SDF Macross/DYRL license or not (we´ve done a lot of threads about that) but whether people will get interested in those less-known valks. Considering most old Macross fans adore the TV series above any other attempt of expanding macross , and since they´re the mayority of those who buy current toys, I would assume people will not support any of the new lines as they´ve done with the current VF-1 line. in short words , once the VF-1 is gone Yamato will see their ongoing profits fall to the floor IMO. I mean , why else would they keep making more VF-1 variants ? cause they want to milk it as far as they can before their cash cow dies. Anyway , independently of this , Yamato will surely expand their macross line in hopes of getting some sort of profit from those who remain interested in macross after they cannot longer produce anymore reeditions of the macross icon.

Mmmmm...some people have actually misunderstood the question. I was asking whether you would continue to buy Yamato toys once they no longer continue to produce SDF/DYRL/FB2012 toys and instead start making other valks like : Macross M3 , Macross 7 , Macross VF-X2 , Macross Zero , etc... So far it looks like Yamato will have no solid market once they´re done with the VF-1s or SDF toys , I´m thinking we´ll live yet another drought a year from now.

I recently was remembering the old times with all the stuff about the 1/55 and the reissues and all that and I started thinking about what good times we´re having right now , but then I started thinking about the future. I mean , it´s not like I want to sound pessimist but I don´t really think this will continue to be this way forever.Hopefully it does though (thanks to M0 ). Anyway , I was thinking , if things continue to be this good and Yamato decides to expand his macross line to other series/games , would any of the hardcore fans continue to buy Yamato toys ? I mean , would anyone really be interested in buying VF-5000s , VF-14s , or VF-9s ? We´re all abosulutelly mad about the VF-1 and that´s a good enough reason to buy all these toys even if we have to sell one of our vital organs if we need to do so , but could Yamato justify the produccion of new valks ? I hope the good times continue after the VF-1 variants are exhausted. Well this poll is just to more or less quantify the notion of most members on whether they´ll continue to buy yamato toys once the VF-1 stops being produced.
  4. Well. I have the ANBU/ONE version......they have it spelt as Schwalbe-One (Two, etc.). I ran Schwalbe through Babelfish......using a German to English translator (b/c there wasn't a Russian term for Schwalbe). Schwalbe = Swallow (in German) So is it german? I thought it was russian... the Swallow Squad? that is not very intimidating Actually , it could be quite intimidating , sometimes.
  5. Ditto on that one. If they wanted to show a more mature and darker side of spidy they should´ve gone with the simbiotic/Venom saga , and then cover something about Carnage. A 2-on-1 fight with sprider-man in the same style as in the first movie would´ve been great. I don´t really like that much the Doc.
  6. Yeah he was VERY young when he started his career , specially for what he did in Macross and Gundam.
  7. I don´t know if anyone knew this but this past 28 of February our holy froating head celebrated his 43th birthday. I know this is kinda late but: Congratulations oh merciful God !!! Actually, it´s not that I feel the need to do this but he´s a great man and his work brings some happyness and enjoyment to our lives
  8. I´m curious to know what particular song do you identify the most with Macross. what song do you think representates macross the best ? I don´t know if anyone will agree with me but for It´s Idol Talk , when I listen to that song all those images of valks and space come to my head and all. Interestingly enough , some of M0 OST songs are starting to get really good after a while.
  9. Holy freaking crap Damn , I totally forgot about this toy until you opened this thread and that little memory cane out of that dark side of my brain. To tell you the truth , I still think this things are pretty fun and awesome. Anyway , from what I remember I actually bought on of those Takara models , in fact, I remmeber having the black one (see the pics on the link).

    1/48 BR "blue camo"

Ok , I´ve seen somre very good , in fact , quite awesome customs here but THAT is simply a work of art , think of all the resources and time that went into making such a beautiful custom. I remeber that colour scheme appearing in some mag , and I really feel happy someone actually got around doing it , specially someone like you Jung. Kudos man BTW , Excellent choice on the J
  11. I do agree with what you said about Matrix and Star Wars But Macross Zero is more slightly tied to the other works of the same fictional universe. Matrix mantained the same characters, and I can't say they were really ruined in the sequels; they added mostly useless characters, and some character like the French at least was funny although he did nothing in the final. What showed signs of decay was the fact agents weren't badasses anymore, since anyone was willing to fight against them and could manage to survive. It was how they story was wrapped in Revolutions what really turned the sequels into a crap. Star Wars also mantained as many old characters as it could. Qui-Gon Jinn was nobody, Darth Maul too. People cared for the emperor, Obi-Wan, Anakyn, Yoda, Boba-Fett... and indeed they ruined one of the best villain ever showing him as that kid. They didn't stop at that, but from the beginning they turned battles into slapstick farces. The story itself... well, events are going in the direction they should, it's just they chose ludicrous plot devices and character development to make them going. Macross Zero of the old show can ruin only Focker, and I don't feel it's doing it, aside from drawing differently. No inexperienced and bungler guy has still saved the day, so battles are safe, too. The only thing added was a person who the show insisted in showing she was born special, and what she has done so far is still insignificant. It's obvious she will do more things later, but I think this is a proper introduction which laid some limits, and in itself, unlike Macross 7, it doesn't have any relevance for events happened in the original series. The story of Macross Zero itself doesn't have connections with the story of SDF, as it seems it could be a bridge for something which is following Macross 7. But it's only when you've watched it you start talking about why it was received that way Hearing people talking about a thing without really having seen it first can sometimes leads to a will of disagree with those people once you've seen the thing About why a person perceives a thing in a way, it's too difficult to say, especially if you want do discern whether it was a matter of the show or of the person. I myself have rewatched something and discovered it was different from what I remembered. Once I was seeing Evangelion with my cousin. It was the first time he saw the episode, and he kept asking what was happening and why. I thought it was obvious what was happening (weird things because of an angel's attack), and if it wasn't clear you should have just waited until something would have revealed it to you. James Hudnall wrote the reason why people find something boring is because there is too much neutral. There should be a shift in polarity between a scene and the other, a positive scene (a character doing fine) should turn into a negative, and a negative one can even turn into a more negative one. This shift of polarity marks the impact the story is having on characters. In a good show the shift should became bigger each time, until the climax. I don't buy the lack of development many claim. It's just that some people don't think the story is having too much impact on the characters so far, so they don't see the way they are changed, too. Obviously, when you don't like a thing you aren't pushed examining it further, and maybe you can even miss some details, resulting in that you don't understand later things and so you dislike the show even more. In Macross Plus the lead's goals were clear from the beginning: winning the project and Myung. These grails were contended by an apt villain, and the way the grails came closer or further to the lead marked the progress in the story and what is called growth in the characters. In Macross Zero the lead didn't have clear grails so far. It has been a mix of survival, both own and others', pride of being an ace, and the AFOS' head. Getting the girl is a separate matter. So, at the end, Macross Zero is losing not because it's bad in itself, it's losing simply because of a formula. Sad but true. FV This pretty much resumes it all. totally agree , even in the part where M0 failed to follow the formula from the beginning
  12. Awesome animation and action sequences badass jet desings nice music No content at all I simply can´t understand how Gonzo could produce 4 episodes to date with absolutelly no story or resolutions on character´s backgrounds.

    Max VF-1S

I´m not sure if this toy alone is worth a thread but does anyone feel fond of this variant ? At first I never payed much attention or gave much vredit to this variant but as of late I´ve started to REALLY like it. It´d be nice to see Yamato make this toy in 1/48 , otherwise I could get a 1A and a 1S and swap the heads (I´ll get a Max 1S and a Roy 1A , I should paint the dots on the heads though)
  14. On the contrary, I think they'll actually come really close to their projection. Yamato only shows off what they're near or already completed with, and given we've already received painted pictures of it, I think july is pretty safe to bet on. Despite the possibility of change in the sculpt, I don't think it will change much or at all, for that matter. It's projects that they keep mum about that are questionable. *cough*YF-19FP*cough*. I'm telling ya.... I think my conspiracy theory with that valk is somewhat possible. Maybe we'll see a 1/60 Macross plus line soon in the horizon. I don't know, we already saw painted GBP armor in February and it got pushed back 3 months for no reason. damn , you´re right , I totally fogot about the GBP Now that I think of it , apart from the armour I think I´ll pretty much stay away from Yamato toys from quite lot of time until they release a bigger more detailed line of the M0 mechas.
  15. OMG , the world is about to end! the 1/48 trend is starting to dissapear ? Does this mean the decline of the 1/48 line ? Dun dun dun
  16. You know what ? to hell with Macross Zero , we all agree it´s an utter piece of crap. In fact , to hell with Macross altogether. Since we´ll be getting a new series in less than a year , with the same plot as SDF Macross once again we should just boycot this crap that is M0 and all other varied series. There , are you happy ? If you want Character development then by all means don´t watch something that´s only 5 episodes long. If you want a long spanning plot then don´t watch a 5 episode OVA. Just why don´t you go back to your M7 bashing threads and make yourselves happy ? It looks as if you´ve found a new hobby on bashing M0 since the minute people stopped making M7 threads and you could no longer ruin those threads , and since M+ and SDF Macross are entirely perfect you find yourselves unable to bitch about those cause all the community would go after you. That´s just lame. I know I´ll get a fair share of crap coming my way cause of this but some people´s attitude is just lame , I could understand this sort of crap when talking about crap like M7 or MII but when we finally get a decent series those who were left with nothing to complain start to find really absurd reasons (except character development) to critize a new project. And just to piss people off I simply will not read your responses or enter this thread again So whatever you have to say about this I won´t even bother reading it
  17. Why can't someone be entitled to their opinion? Why this need to "explain away" others' opinions simply because they differ from yours? It's as if they disagree with you, then their outlook or perspective is somehow skewed, distorted, or misguided. Plenty of folks don't dig Zero because there's just not quite as much to dig. Mac+ was decidedly different from SDF, and yet, some of these same folks ate it right up. People have differing tastes. And if they don't dig what you do, it doesn't mean their thought processes are somehow muddled or screwed up-- that if they were enlightened enough to approach Zero the way you have, they'd see it for how great it really is. It just means they don't dig what you do. And what's there doesn't do enough for them. I've noticed a trend here, Aegis. You tend to back up your opinions and views by disparaging those who disagree, and by painting them and why they feel the way they do in a decidedly negative light, as if they're somehow daffy or ig'nant for not embracing Zero, M7, and whatnot. Can we please move away from maligning those who see differently, and arguing the virtues and lack of the series/toy/whatever itself? Reasons I'm lukewarm to Zero: Little character development: most of what's there doesn't have the bite that stories I do dig have. Yes. I expect good character interaction. I expect something that isn't bland, and am going to be dissapointed if I'm not satiated. Sue me. Mediocre CG: what's there just doesn't do it for me. Valks are way overweathered, dogfight animations come across as a little bit fake and jarring, and the mecha designs just don't tickle my sense of aesthetics. They're not horrid.. they're just not classics, even though I do like the VF-0 in fighter mode. Character Design: I actually like most of the designs, although Roy could have used more oomph. But the lack of character development doesn't make them come out alive enough. And the way they're rendered is decidedly plain and understated. Understated's fine when you have good dialogue driving the characters and giving them life anyway. But you don't. Plot: I don't dig magic and tribal mysticism in my "real-type-mecha" animes. Just not my thing. I do like the Aphos angle lots, but with only one more episode left, 'Mori's got a lot of 'splainin' to do. Music: It's just... there. Sara's singing doesn't have enough oomph, and she doesn't work her star material, nor has her singing been entwined with the action in a bigger than life way, yet anyway. Both of these are Macross traditions. So far, her singing's just a reason to: show her nekkid, make flowers bloom, and make rocks float. If I wanted tribal sing song, I'd watch Pocahontas. -Al Hey , I´m just pointing out WHY some people may not like it. I ain´t saying it´s bad not to like it. Chill out man , no one is trying to discriminate anyone like we were in some sort of Ku Klux Klan Formost , I don´t think Macross Zero is THE most incredibly awesome anime out there , but as far as other anime titles it´s certainly one of the most well acomplished OVA series out there as well as a great Macross series in itself. I donñt know if you have a continous habit of watching a variety of OVA series , but if you want really deep character development you should really watch TV series instead of M0 , in fact if you ain´t really used to watching OVA series and you´re watching Zero just because it´s macross then simply don´t watch it. Again I´m not saying in any way you´re some sort of idiot because you don´t like it , what I´ve said are just recommendation and simple observations as to why you don´t like it in contrast to my points on why I like it. As I said before, those people like you who don´t like it probably expexted some sort of documental on the events before SW1 , with everything reflecting every single thing in SDF Macross or the style of M+. Unfortunatelly this is never the case with Macross , cause it´s always different. It´s funny to see people assume M0 is all about spirita and all that crap cause so far it´s has never even been remotedly mentioned in the OVAs. For the M7 haters I should point out that If there´s ever been a Macross series radically different to M7 that´s surely M0. There´s absolutelly no focus on the music as seen in M7, there´s a lot on enphasis on the Mecha development and the plot is MUCH more deeper and relevatn to the continity than in M7. And no , I don´t love M7 , you can give that title to some other geek out there but I have quite a lot of things against M7 unlike some others I´ve an obejective judgement on that series and I don´t see why we should discuss this in this thread. I would appreciate if M7 haters stay away from M0 threads as it seems that when there´s a lack of M7 bashing threads they find the necessity to screw the good mood on other people´s threads (not saying you´re on of them but your comments on M7 will surely attract those kind of people). The only point I should agree with you is in the character development department , in comparison to other Macross series Macross Zero has shown a definitive lack of character development , but since I´m watching it mostly because of the plot and action I don´t give a crap about the characters. I think you´re fairly alone on your opinion in regard to the CG since M0 has already won a award for its animation merits. I don´t know how you can judge the plot already considering the OVAs are not even finnished yet. If I had done the same with Plus or SDF Macross I would´ve thrown those 2 titles to the bin in the firts 2 episodes ; if you´re enlightened enough to judge something way ahead of its definitive end then kudos to you but some of us try to reserve our judgement until its finished. At least we didn´t get another M7 kinda anime or a Sentou Yuosei Yukikaze
  18. this coming from a guy who has a sig saying that there is nothing wrong with robotech. Protoculture anybody? The difference being that all of the psychic phenomena in Robotech were in the show right from the start. Robotech and the powers/effects of Protoculture in that show were a big thing since day one. Same thing with Evangelion, Angel Cop, and a whole host of other shows that I enjoy, because the non-technological bits were planned right from the start and not introduced until several sequels later on, and then we're told "Okay, this is how it's always been and now everything is like this." Unlike in Macross where there's NO mention of "magic" or "anima spirita" until Macross 7, and now it's being further reinforced by Zero. Thank you very much, but I prefer the tone and style Macross Plus (and to a lesser extent) SDF had for the universe. Macross' pure tech story is one of the few things that really attracted me to it, and now that it's being changed I don't like it very much. you should Rewatch Macross. I think you missed the episode where Exedol is shocked by the powers shown in Linn Kaifun´s movie and reffers to the protoculture and its powers. Now , who exactly were the anima spirita ? Protoculture beings with spirita powers. See. Anyway , I don´t know why everyone is assuming Sara is using Spirita , since Mayan is supposedly a Protoculture Vessel ( which obviously functions under the commands of the protoculture ) and the islanders included Sara are suppossed to be Protoculture decendants then why should it be Spirita and not a simple reaction from the Protoculture Vessel to Sara´s song which could very well be taken as command s by the Vessel/island ?
  19. I´ve noticed , after a lot od threads and debates , that those people dissapointed with Macross Zero are the very same people that expected it to be a SDF Macross remake (in an unfounded way since we all new what it was about since its announcement) ; I don´t mean a remake per se but rather that they were expecting M0 to have almost the same plot , with the same characters (only younger) and the same mechas. From the momment M0 was announced alll of those people ignored what every macross fan should have embedded in their minds : every single macross series has to be different to all others. Why ? cause Kawamori and BW/SN don´t like to make lame copies of their old work. Why people find the VF-0 ugly ? cause they wanted a CG VF-1 and got a slightly different mecha with a different name Why do people dislike the character designs ? cause it ain´t Mikimoto´s work Why don´t they like the music ? cause it ain´t Yoko Kano´s work etc, etc, etc... I feel pity for those who fall into all that nostalgic feelings and want retro looking remakes , that´s just lame IMO , why ? cause otherwise we would be getting the same crap with every single new series like Gundam and that would take away what makes macross special. I like the plot foremost , since it deals with a great part of that unkown side of macross. The animation is simply top notch and the characters are OK. I have to admit I´m a great fan of the mechas since it reflects the new tendencies Kawamori has taken to his work and I pretty much like this. I just hope this time the story goes a bit deeper , beyond the mecha battles.
  20. This kinda threads are so freaking funny.
  21. You´ve lived a whole year without feeling eager to see the other episodes ? man you have will power Do yourself a favour and get the other 2 Eps. Anyway , The only real thing that I don´t like about this toy is the ugly looking Vf-19-ish upper leg parts. I think they´re too big for the overall proportions of the plane. Just a question but why did they have to flatten the battroid nosecone ? if they wanted it to look proportioned and nice looking they should´ve used a more realistic nosecone according to the lineart. This makes the Vf-0 look like the tiny K&M figures.

    M0 toys

Well , now that we´re gonna have the possibility to buy M0 toys for cheap , be it some VF-0s or SV-51s or even Destroids , has anyone thought of customising theirs ? I´m expecting a lot of Vf-1 customisers to get into painting or moding their 0s and Svs. I was a bit hesitant to the idea of buying one of the 1/100 figures cause I didn´t want to make the same mistake of buying the smaller crappier version of the VF. But considering that now these are gonna be relatively cheap and quite detailed I may buy at least one VF-0S or D so I can repaint it in Millia´s colour scheme or Hikaru´s , maybe a Fire 0S ! It´ll be interesting to see how the customised SVs will turn out.
  23. When this toy was anounced I limited myself to the following philosophy : - Why bitch and moan about how crapy you find THIS toy if we know we´re gonna get a bigger , high quality version of the VF-0 ? WE KNOW they´re gonna milk this cow till it dies , and that means a whole variety of products for potential buyers. And a 1/60 or 1/72 is definitively gonna be part of this so boys , just calm down. Although I´m probably gonna wait for the bigger toy I think this toy is a hell of a detailed figure , look at the panel lines they are even more refined than the 1/60s. The sculpt itself is very nice looking. I won´t make any other unnecessary comments about the hips or the lower intake parts or the landing year. For only 4000 yens this thing is really worth it. Considering this is the first Yamato toy ever to be released at that price from the very start I´m really expectant to see its success.
  24. Since those notes were made before he came to Mayan I´m thinking he travelled around the world making some research on ancient cicilisations until he finally found Mayan. Or he simply made notes on how all these things resembled something about overtechnology or the protoculture.
  25. Aegis!

    Yay my Q-Rau came

OK , This is my only grip with this toy : Can it really do original poses ? and I mean decent poses , not the ones posted by other members where all you could see is the Q-rau moving its arms sideways or its legs bending its feet I want to see if this toy can take a GU-11 and poin it sideways while kneeling down. Or seeing it standing on its hands etc...you get the idea , if you ever saw the 1/48 funny poses thread you know how many poses you can get with the 1/48 and I wanna know if this toy is really that posable or is just a stiff piece of plastic.
