  1. Meh, that 'generational luggage' sometimes works. One of the more amusing theories I've read is that after the First Robotech War, the mecha designers took the best ideas from Human and Zentradi mecha when designing the next generation; thus explaining why the Alpha fighter is smaller, faster, and armed to the teeth with missles Sometimes crossovers DO work Also, y'know... that picture is just awesome.
  2. The important thing for Toynami to learn here is to copy Aoshima's design and QC ethics. There's just no comparison between the Alpha and Beta in terms of quality and greatly streamlined design. Anything else they design in-house from here on out has to live up to this standard.
  3. I think the "missles" in question are actually the yellowish sensor system. That's supposed to sit flush with the top of the fighter, but CMs doesn't. The Toynami one does, however.
  4. Bioware will be discussing Mass Effect 2 at the GDC in mid-March this year. It's a 60-minute presentation and will touch on the lessons they've learned from the first game. Info here
  5. Alphas schmalphas. Now that we have both flying mecha and the soon-to-be-released Cyclone produced to everyone's satisfaction, it's time for some Southern Cross mecha. I needs me my hovertanks!
  6. *Waves fingers hypnotically at Cap'n* Hovertank. Say it with me. Hover... tank...
  7. That's kind of odd because Southern Cross always had some of my favourite mecha and I just love the armour designs. Very cool.
  8. They serve all the purposes Bridge Bunnies have: giving commentary and an audience-view of the main characters
  9. I'm almost shameful to admit that I enjoy this show. It's ham-handed, cliched, very predictable... and yet, rediculously entertaining. There's been some minor arcs, minor character development, and hints of larger stories in the works. Call it a guilty pleasure if you must, but I still find myself watching it every week
  10. The best part about ExoSquad is they were smart enough to get Teryl Rothery to voice some of the characters. That automatically bumps up its value in my book
  11. That's great, but one of the options should be "Ashley Williams"
  12. While I sadly didn't come up with this picture, it seems appropriate given the day. Happy New Year, all
  13. In my brief time with my Beta toy I found that speading the Alpha's feet/thrusters, recessing the "connection points" beside the Beta's missle bays, and having the Alpha cupped on the stand and then sliding the two together gets me the closest fit. Still not as perfect as the anime, but that's to be expected. The Alpha's arms are supposed to fit into those recessed connection points and mine comes pretty darn close to it. Sadly the combined fighter doesn't look quite as cool as it does on the show
  14. Damn, this toy is gi-frickin'-normous! I mean, holy crap! My hand actually got tired as I was holding it up to transform it At first I was worried about the loudness of the rachet joints (it is a Toynami product, afterall) and some of the lower body joints seemed loose and floppy. Transforming it was a bitch and a half, but once I got it into Fighter mode it was nice and tight and solid. I'm a little put-off by all the open space in the toy, but it's nothing I can't live with. I thought the torso units were supposed to slide back and forth, though? And about the cockpit, does it move forward and back at all? 'cuz right now it looks kinda sad. All in all, I love it. Best. Beta. Evar. And about the Beagle/Toynami heads... it looks to me like the Beagle head is more asian in colouring (pale colour, small features, dark hair) while the Toynami is more "Western" and closer to the cartoon. Personally I like the Toynami colour scheme and the Beagle's sculpt, but that's a minor detail. Who buys a Cyclone toy to look at the MeatBoy inside the armour?
  15. It's here! It's here! *prances around with joy* FedEx seems remarkably inept given it's reputation, but after waiting almost two decades for a decent Beta toy, what's two more weeks? I'll come back soon with review report tales of slobbering over my new toy
  16. If they prove incapable of learning from this experience, then yes. In a complete non-sequiter, does the Bartley figure fit inside the other Ride Armours? ie: Can I put Fuke's body inside Ray's RA? That's interested me ever since I saw this fan pic:
  17. That's what I mean. Toynami had better take note of the design and QC of this toy and maintain both those qualities for their next own-designed release (since they're not designing or manufacturing the Cyclone toys).
  18. All I can really hope for is that Toynami has learned their lesson and takes it to heart. I hope all their subsequent toy exclusives that they design themselves are of this same high quality and not a back-slide to being more Alpha's.
  19. I dunno. Given the experiments Nichol-oker did on his girlfriend (to make her more like him... in theory) was pretty sadistic. Joy-buzzering his mob "colluges" to a burned crisp. Not to mention mixing and matching his toxin into dozens of different products, making it almost impossible for anyone who isn't Batman to figure it out. That last one seems more sadistic and long-term than most of anything than Ledg-oker had planned. That was even pointed out in the movie, the latter Joker didn't have any "plans", he merely went with whatever whims grabbed his very warped fancy. But this argument could also be played out in a pure comic-based format, depending on who was writing the Joker (or Batsies, for that matter. Miller vs anyone else, for example). It's a credit to the original creators and embelleshers that the character has so much depth and variety that we're even capable of reasonably having this sort of discussion.
  20. That should be "Scott" since we're talking about Robotech...
  21. There rarely is, but I was shocking at how very little detail was in the CMs back. Oh, well. My Beta is almost certainly going to be in the combined mode more than any other mode.
  22. The good thing about that review is they pointed out that the CMs had no detail on the backside of the Battloid, which is something I didn't know. But now that I do know, it's impossible to un-know.
  23. Nothing at all wrong with that, I just wanted to see if I was understanding you correctly. In fact, that's all the more cool of you to make that choice. If I wore hats, I'd doff mine for you.
