I don't know what would make anyone think they wouldn't have to pay a subscription to play an online game. Games that play online and do not require a subscription (FPS don't count, and Ragnarok does not count as it is still in open Beta) are completely a rarity (somehow "Neverwinter Nights" managed to pull that off, but I don't know offhand of any other games of significance that have been like this.) Bottom line: Online game of worth + no subscription = pipedream (or nearly so) At any rate, I don't see this game getting very far.

While the Gripen doesn't excite me like it does some people, the graphics are absolutely to die for.... and AC4 had some pretty damn impressive models. The interface looks like it was carried over from AC4 also (ok, they're ALL similar, but this one looks directly lifted) Every time I look at the screenshots, I have to go back and play AC4 to attempt to calm myself while waiting for 5. I can't wait!

lol, we could also throw ourselves off cliffs with sharp rocks at the bottom, but some things just aren't cool (like this movie idea) -
Aircraft VS super thread!
Skull Leader replied to Shin Densetsu Kai 7.0's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
The reason they're not the threat they could be is because they're still using stoneage radar and target aquisition gear. If they ever got a hold of some of our advanced fire control systems, a SU-37 would rule the skies..... It's a great deal of what makes our fighters so deadly in BVR combat. -
to say nothing about the drag and weight considerations...

just because a few of the games are canon doesn't mean they all are. All of the Super-CD and PCE games are non-canon (although we often place them in the MII storyline simply because mecha designs are similar), yet they feature one of the Jenius girls as well as Breetai. No need to worry about it, probably just a simple oversight.

New Trailer for Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children
Skull Leader replied to UN Spacy's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
nah, VI was considered the last "real" final fantasy done in true "final fantasy style" before they went to the 3d games. I know it's just my own opinion, but FF died after VI. Oh well, maybe the action in the movie will justify seeing it. I just don't think it's worthy of the Final Fantasy name. -
"Stealth" aboard USS Abraham Lincoln

that has got to be THE ugliest hollywood aircraft I have ever seen.... -
I would point out that your comments are next to worthless in discussion here. You're opening the door for discussion about something that will only lead to serious hate-debate. This discussion is about the physical functionality of the weapon, not the justification for NEEDING it or when to use it.

YES! that is officially the coolest thing I've seen all night....

There is a bootleg set available at Valkyrie Exchange that has the entire series (uncut) for $50... but beware, the subtitles are godawful... you won't understand much.

you mean 1/60 right? the 1/48 doesn't have diecast bodyparts (only the swingbar)

Yeah, we bicker a lot, we're a big happy family! (but I'm not calling AgentONE "Dad"!). And no worries mate... soon you'll be getting your first job, and then you can waste all the money you want on wonderful Macross goodies There certainly is a lot to Macross, and I think it's all worth watching (the newest series out, Macross Zero, friggin ROCKS), do yourself a favor... watch Macross II and Macross 7 before you watch anything else... you will probably have a higher appreciation for them if you do (these are the most heavily debated and if you watch them before seeing anything else, you'll likely be happier about it) There's really only 2 types of fastpacks out there.... the type that follows the movie and the type that follows the TV series. The only true difference is in the arm pieces (TV versions are a little more curved), but the movie version also features the Mauler double-action beam cannon that can be mounted on the shoulder (which is the bomb shiggity) The movie (DYRL) version of the armor is sold separately, so you can put them on any 1/48 valkyrie. the TV version comes packaged ONLY with the VF-1J valkyries that are available, but you could fit them to any valkyrie also. There are lots of kick-ass valkyries to choose from (every member here has a different favorite... I own 2 1/48s and my favorite is the 1/48 Hikaru VF-1S Strike Valkyrie)

This excites me. I'm glad to hear that everything went ok. LOL, now warp speed would be nice! -
What you seek lies HERE . It's the DVD version of the movie "Macross: Do you Remember Love?". Yes, it is only subtitled, but that is how it is meant to be watched... trust me. Watch it, your life will be changed. Lebhead has a huge topic in the "other anime" section on the differences between Robotech and SDF Macross.

and I'll bet he had the ladies lined up around the block to see the massive tackle he's probably packing though! Umm, 1st border, in the Mckinney novels it DID state that Breetai was injured in the face while fighting their "age old" enemies, the invid... sorry. One of those ultra rare instances when something is better explained in R-tech than it is in Macross

hmmm, I see that carry-handle getting re-worked before it gets accepted. It looks cool, but it's far bigger than it has to be. The adaptability of this firearm to many roles should make it a surefire (pardon the pun) hit. And the polymer casing is sure to win friends from out in the field (less weight= happy soldier). As a full-automatic, I would be concerned about jamming or overheating issues, especially with it being a polymer. I guess I'd have to see a rate of fire vs. magazine load before I could say more about that though.

Besides... the first time a "battroid" F-14 took a step or accidentally bumped into a wall, the thing would be completely unflyable (afterburner nozzles would collapse and the fuselage would bend and dent). SWAG energy-conversion armor is what gives the body of the VF series the ability to take hit after hit and still retain it's shape. It's completely mythical and as near as I can tell, impossible to theorize. NERV is right. The VF-1 is closer in size to a F/A-18, the F-14 is nearly half again as long. I'm sorry to say that such a thing is still pretty far off. You could probably build a jet that looks very much like a VF-1 Valkyrie... and it would probably fly, but it would have none of the characteristics we associate with that legendary aircraft. Likewise, I suppose it is "possible" to build a battroid that looks like a VF-1, but it would be unable to transform, probably be a lot slower, and have nowhere NEAR the durability. I'm sure a VF-1 frame could be built to be transformable, but it would be a worthless piece of metal. The conversion equipment would take up too much space, and We don't have jet engines that can separate into as many pieces as the Vf-1's do (different leg segments move independently of the others). In terms of feasibility it just isn't a good idea (yet). Also, given the complaints ground crews had working on F-14s, I imagine working on a VF-1 would be a damn greek tragedy. Ahh, we can dream though.

I agree, Christopher. That's why I put the (IMHO) in there. I've seen both kits up close enough to know they're comparable in detail. The YS may have a slight leg up in it, but not a $100+ difference worth Except for the diehard model collectors (and more power to them), most people won't justify that price for a non-transformable 1/72 model when they can buy a 1/48 FULLY transformable (not to mention already painted) VF-1 for the same price. But I digress... If the kit were more rare, I'd justify that kind of price, but as YS model kits go, this one is about as easy to find as any other. I would also point out that I mean no disregard to VF-5000B, it's always nice to know different places where macross goodies can be found. I just think they're trying to screw someone over (same with the VF-5000 kit they were offering)
-
I beg to differ. I have seen both the YS and the Hase kits up close and they're quite comparable. It's been a while and I cannot remember which was better, but I can remember that for a while just looking at them I could not tell which was which. It's overpriced (IMHO). Resin kits have been going for ultra cheap here for a while now (at least, compared to what they used to). If it was genuine YS, I wouldn't pay more than $50-$75 for it. TOPS. And yes, this is coming from a "Hardcore Fan" (I build the models too)

Space Ship One Launches tomorrow in Mojave,CA
Skull Leader replied to Hiriyu's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Umm, a manned vessel of ANY sort reaching orbit is *always* an accomplishment. There are only about half a billion things that can go wrong from the ground to the stratosphere. You can bet that every time a shuttle went up before, everyone on the ground was holding their breath. Projects like that requre a vast number of people to do their job correctly and then do it again just to make sure nothing was wrong the first time. It's an accomplishment in every sense of the word. How often do we send people that high? Not very often (unless they are passing IN to outer space). Low-cost proof of concept (at least, compared to the govt.) is another accomplishment. For the costs involved in covering a single shuttle flight from liftoff to recovery could fund the SS1 project many times over. It's proving that less "qualified" (in the sense that they're not govt. licensed astronauts.. read: the average man) people are capable of reaching space for a mere fraction of the cost of what the goverment operates for. The commercialization of space travel is going to be what sets the first colony on mars. I'll bet that right now. It was the same thing in the 1400s when Britain was colonizing North America. While governments gave their consent, it was private companies that actually did the colonizing. This is a crucial step in the future colonization of mankind.
