  1. wow andy, you are a handy bugger now aren't you!!! that is a very cool idea & seems easy.did you bend the wire in place or did you do a test fit & bend it over & over till it fit the valk? i like how you've re-done the display cubes too.what happened to all the gundam stuff that was in there? did they find new homes?
  2. i may have a spare recast tv style 1/60 pilot that i could part with.i have to double check to make sure it's still in my inventory though.......
  3. jasonc,i've seen a plane painted red baron style w/ the greyed out belly, but i can't remember were.i remember thinking how good it looked that way though.my feeling would be,if you do do the grey underbelly, tone down the red on top some,so as not to have a bright glossy red "crashing" into the light grey at the bottom.
  4. yeah devin(anasazi37), hope all your personal stuff works out for you. as you can see,you & your awsome work are missed very much here. jasonc, can't wait to see how she turns out for ya.having a new lady friend myself,i can understand how custom valks has slid to the back burner slightly.boyfriend/girlfriend stuff almost never includes working on custom valks
  5. yes, yes, welcome to the dark side my friend.you'll wanna just leave your wallet in the basket by the door, yamato now controls that.the dark side isn't stronger, but it is quicker,easier..........more seductive. i agree w/ your thoughts about the 1/60's,but that really changed for me when i got the VE-1 & VT-1.when i had my 1/60 VF-1S strikevalk,i wasn't liking it's armour fitment,my fast/strike packs just never would sit even on their mounts & the leg armours would come off w/ just the lightest handling.it was my first 1/60 too,so figuring out how to transform it the first time, was an escapade to say the least. my VE-1 & VT-1 are a whole different story though.all the armours fit snug & tight & they mount true w/o sitting crooked or needing adjustment.the transformations seem easier to get just from a quick glance to see how the parts move,i like how the cockpit canopies/heatshields click in nice & tight, not falling off in evasive manuevers.i'm not sure if yamato perfected the 1/60 line before releasing the elint & ostrich, but it seems like it.i heard the valks w/ 2 pilots in them were difficult to transform into battroid mode w/o having to wrestle w/ the chest plate to fenagle it into position, but that issue seems to have been corrected,at least it seems that way w/ my 1/60's.
  6. well, with my bonus from work,i'm saving to do a 1/48 custom. my big present this year, was my grandfather paid my way for me to join him & the rest of my familiy on there cruise to bermuda.all expenses paid, owner's suite, butler, the whole 9 yards.best time i've ever had w/ a christmas gift. i've been hinting around to my girl that i've been wanting a WW1 style german fighter ace black leather jacket.i just love that early double-breasted style black leather jacket, very slick & classy looking.mom & dad are giving me some parts to put on my hotrod,so i really can't complain this year at all
  7. alot of guys recommended a gundam marker to me for panel lining.i was surprised at how well my first 1/55 turned out whn i used 1 of these.i had never done any custom work to a valk & it turned out damn-near perfect.my only complaint was that after 2 valks, the tip seemed to dull to work easily anymore.i'd have to say it was worth it though.even for only 2
  8. jasonc, definately use a little grey in your red baron custom.i think it would look sweet w/ the belly of the valk painted that light gray kinda the way the modern fighters do for camo against the sky.i don't know if the original von richtoven had his that way,but it would blend very nicely w/ a modern take on his paint scheme. i am planning a 1/48 VF-1S custom max(for a while now),but i'm still in the collecting pieces & parts stage.i'll definately post pics when i'm done.it's another custom that i know has been done-to-death,but i'm doing it cause i've always wanted 1.especially now that rohby has cast probably the most perfect & detailed VF-1S head ever.combine that w/ some of anisazi37's incredibly perfect decals & it'll be just perfect.
  9. so,these 3rd releases are having issues w/ the bp8 breaking easily or broke upon arrival? i've yet to get a yammie w/ any qc issues, just lucky i guess.you guys must handle your valks like a gorrilla to be breaking that backpack piece.i consider myself rather rough w/ my 1/60 & 1/48 valks & i've yet to break a hip or backpack piece
  10. hmmm,i wouldn't buy a reissue skystriker.a reissue USS FLAGG,now i'd buy that for sure
  11. i saw this SCAR weapons system demonstrated on gunny's show "mail call".the tech went through all the possible combos & uses for this weapon & i was highly impressed with it's versatility.the materials used in it's components were made to take abuse, mistreatment & dirt & mud like an AK & still work w/o issues for it's service life.i was under the impression all branches of armed forces were adopting this,i'd not heard the army was still pushing to have the xm-8.it would just be smarter to standardize arms w/ a system like the SCAR.it would save alot of $ & still be able to meet the differing needs of the miltiary branches.i would normally be for the ability to get different arms to meet your needs, but the SCAR seems to work w/ it's many configurations.issue these exclusively to the troops, but still allow special forces, seals, recon, etc to select whatever they want for their missions.it'll save $ & keep the bad-ass black ops guys unrestricted to their arsenal.just my $0.02
  12. what's up chi-ho(wabbit) dude,i think you have alot of valid points with this.this is a macross only site, that means the subject material is bound to repeat.that's just simple logic.new folks here will never stop being a nOOb unless they learn about the various macross series, toys etc.longterm, old school members shouldn't bash them or rudely belittle their inquiries w/ a "look in this thread for the 1000th time" or other such responses.those of us who are veterans here have to act as good hosts.come on,that's why we're so cool to begin with,so it'd be ashame to see that perception changing after all these years here.cool begets cool man.a few years ago when i was a nOOb here,i was lucky enough to have nothing but positive experiences w/ the vets & even found them eager to befriend a new guy like me.if i'd had a more negative experience,i'd most likely be long gone.in the past everyone always knew us as the cool group.treating new folks badly just makes you look like a tool.
  13. i definately like the 1 we have color-wise.wasn't robotech.com using a black background? yuck,no thanks.let's NOT flatter them with imitation.i would like to see the invision skin replaced w/ a macross 1 from some of the talented fans here though.we'd really be uptown then
  14. hmm,my dad was in 'nam for 2 tours.1967 w/ the 101st airbourne & 1968 w/ the 82nd.he said he never had 1 issue w/ his M-16 that he was issued there.no jamming,no missfires, nothing.he never said anything about noisey sling hardware either.he knew a few guys that had jams w/ theirs, but he noticed that only happened to those who didn't clean them like they should.i just can't imagine sling hardware making enough noise to be heard over say.......ma-deuce ammo slung on your chest.what about the rest of your web-gear? wouldn't that be louder than sling clips? were the noise complaints mostly from SOG groups or SEAL teams were silence was crutial? if your in the bad-bush on patrol, your rifle wouldn't be hanging at a relaxed stance on your shoulder,it'd be cocked & locked to keep your ass alive.wrapping the sling around your arm & keeping a little tension on it while on your sweep would keep any metal silent.if your squad got rolled-on by Charlie while on patrol,it wasn't your sling hardware that gave you away,it was most likely his spies that told him were your patrol would be.my dad noticed that when he'd deliberately "get lost" or deviate slightly from the map coordinates they were given, the ambushes decreased by like %50.started to catch Charlie w/ his pants down alot more too. in vietnam, playing it by the book got you killed.adapting in the field to what the battlefield dictated kept you alive.noisy slings or not
  15. that photo above shows how i hold this baby at all times as well as a good view of that double trigger saftey
  16. chowser, i really love these new SA XD pistols.i'm not sure if the grip safety works exactly the same as the 1911,cause i've never shot 1 of those.i've held 1 a long, long time ago,but i can't remember what that grip safety even looked like. my SA actually has no push button safety on it at all.the grip safety has to be depressed at the same time as the trigger & secondary safety directly beside the trigger.when all 3 are depressed, only then will the gun discharge.i feel this actually gives you an enormous amount of control over the weapon.some have argued that it would be too complicated in a high-stress tactical situation, but i disagree.this thing would be an advantage i think cause, you have no button safety to fumble with.it's ready to go when you are.i've noticed that i have adapted my carry style w/ this weapon as well.i hold it with my trigger finger on the outside of the trigger guard at all times until i'm ready to discharge it at a target.i didn't realize i had started to do this until i noticed 1 day that i was holding it that way even when i was dissassembling it for cleaning.it just seems to be real easy to adapt very quickly to this very different type of pistol/safety system.
  17. yah, bummer guys i heard on the news today that suckers gonna pop her cherry big time in less than 24 hours
  18. man, nice HK's chowser.i'm considering getting a stainless slide for my SA XD-9.i love the 2-tone look & living just a few miles from a saltwater ocean kinda makes it practical for me too.i've noticed very small areas on my black slide want to start rusting a little too soon for as new as this baby is.i've started to clean it on a more frequent basis as a result.
  19. man dude, you got a custom title w/ only 36 posts!!!!! mental note-must come up w/ snappy catch phrase,so mods custom title me
  20. wow, those really do look great.they still have bugs to be worked out?? man,if those are the test set,i can't wait to see the finished product
  21. the next logical choice for you my friend has got to be "do you remember love" .the movie is just sooooo awsome even 20 years later.you can get a good bootleg copy from hong kong for around $15 (get the orange cover/FX version).sdf-macross is definately worth the $,but look around alot before you buy,you could get lucky & pick it up cheap on ebay or something.macross zero is also a very cost-effective way to see some more macross.i got mine shipped from hong kong for $11 each dvd. give macross 7 a chance.a friend graciously loaned me his dvd's of this series & i'm glad he did.it's a great series.it just drags a little until the 10th episode.you have to just grin & bear it till then, cause after episode 10,you'll get addicted & won't be able to wait to see the next episode.definately give it a try too
  22. "folks, folks, let's move along, there's nothing to see here"
  23. hey man, don't piss in our cheerios dude kawamori will leave us a written document answering all questions upon his final moments on this earth.......right? that's gonna happen....isn't it? i hope it doesn't say "haha got you fanboys!!!!"
  24. yeah chowser, you've always been able to buy an automatic weapon(especially if you are a policeman or government agent),the ban didn't affect that.you just had to go to a class 3 gun dealer & pay major coin & do major paper work to get your ar-15 or mp-5.the ban just affected certain aspects of popular "assault weapons".no bayonet mounts, high capacity mags, they didn't like pistol grips for some reason either.the ban seem to be really singling out the AK-47,but it doesn't state that exactly.the rules for owning a "legal" AK were just dumb.changed stocks, grips & no bayonet lug didn't make an already non-automatic rifle any less lethal.just made it look funny.my dad faced kalishnikovs in the jungle of vietnam & i'm really after that exact particular model cause of it's roll that it played in that part of history.they look pretty cool hanging on the wall with that bayonet fixed too
  25. do it,do it,come on, do it bsu legato.do it cause that's what Josie Wales would do.
