  1. yah,i see your point about it costing alot to have a shop tool you up a mold.my friend chris has an edge, cause he's the big boss in the shop he's at.i'm sure you remember him from the old days here.he made the original 1/55 heads, heatshields & other parts here on macrossworld.there use to be a link to his parts & installation instructions on the first page of this board.he's friend's w/ shawn i believe too, cause he asked about him first when we started our chat.
  2. from the way he was explaining it to me,he could do it either way.make molds, hardparts whatever he wanted.he made some kind of custom joints out of brass for his gundam mecha that he entered into the model contest at otakon.it allowed sick articulation in the feet of his zeon mecha
  3. for the love of pete man, don't do something grown up with your money.that's just wrong.mortgages are headaches.crash on your friends couch & buy more toys
  4. oh,chris barretta told me he only lurks here once & a while, but he DOES have access to that kind of CAD programs & lathe equipment.he is a custom tool fabricator for black & decker's R&D program.he told me that he can make anything you could possibly want for a valkyrie or any mecha.lucky dog
  5. exactly mr fulcy.CAD meaning computer aided design.i know a few of these techno-fabricators from my hotrod hobbie.i'm just going on a hunch, but aren't you military mr. B-52 GUNNER? if so,start making nice w/ the guys at the machine shop were you serve.no good military base is without a good machine shop.i believe they have them on aircraft carriers as well.if they have the ability to make surgical intruments, then those guys work w/ high quality stock.instuments are made of VERY pure stainless & aluminums.they have the ability to polish to a mirror finish if they can make instruments,so you might have some resources at your disposal after all
  6. which part do you need vacum for? is it after the resin is poured in the molds to keep it's shape? reason i ask is,if you know anybody w/ access to any type of CAD equipment, then you should be able to make molds easily out of something sturdy.i bumped into resin guru chris barretta at otakon this year & we talked for a long while.he operates a shop w/ extensive CAD gear & he said you can pretty much make anything you need w/ that.he didn't mention about the specifics of resin casting, but is vacum absolutely needed to make parts?
  7. yes,the heatshield splitting & going into the chest when not in use is correct i'm sure of it.the tv series was rife w/ mistakes,so maybe this fact was only in tech journals of valkyrie workings.
  8. opus,is your statement based on a yamato vf-1d toy or on line art that you've seen? i'm curious cause i'm sure yamato had to differ alot on their toys from the anime to make things work for their products.
  9. hmmm,i know i read about this somewere.although,i do remember seeing the heatshield split in two on isamu's valk in macross plus.the camera dives toward his valk & just as it gets to the heatshield,it splits in two & you see him looking up at the camera. oh,well.i guess i'm not remembering my source material from my vf-1d custom all those years ago correctly. does anyone know if the heatshield from the ve-1 & vt-1 is supposed to be identicle to the vf-1d?
  10. man, renato, you are correct & i was wrong.it is animated in 1 piece that slides from under the chestplate in the first few episodes of sdf macross.maybe it's a technical journal i'm thinking of.anyway,it IS supposed to be a 2 piece design.i guess i remember seeing it when i was researching my vf-1d 1/55 custom.i think the explaination for it was " 2 seater cockpit is too long for a single shield,so a 2 piece was developed that slid from the sides of the canopy & joined in the center" anyway,my original question was: is this cannon for the ve-1 & vt-1 from the movie as it is for the vf-1d from the tv series or did yamato just re-use old molds?
  11. i think i ment to say episode 1.i'm gonna have to watch again, but somewere in that sequence, hikaru's 1d's heatshield comes from the sides, not under the chestplate.
  12. dr vandermeer, the guy i talked too, just refered to the alpha as being not worth the $80 price tag quality-wise.he seemed to be very disapointed in seeing the finished product after all the hype.i've always thought southerncross hardware was ugly,so i'm not interested at all.the cyclones are ok,but i sure wouldn't shell out hundreds of dollars for 1.i never tire of vf-1's.there's so many nice 1's from yamato lately.
  13. i believe in the episode that roy tells hikaru to put the vf-1d into gerwalk instead of battroid cause it would be easier for him to fly it (2nd episode i believe).it slides down into the sides of the nose/cockpit instead of tucking up inside the chest plate.
  14. man,i just transformed my vt-1 superostrich for the 1st time today & that thing was a B#$ch.this is the first time i've transformed 1 of these new 2 seaters w/ that bigger chestplate that everybody was talking about & man,it was alot harder than a standard 1 seater 1/60.the main issue i saw w/ these,is that the metal clip that the chestplate attaches to down in the landing gear well won't slide forward easily w/ the heatshield in place.i found i had to use a mechanics pick tool to pull it up over the rise in the landing gear well to get it to slide into it's final position in battroid mode.i had to take the passenger out of mine too, cause i think misa's helmet was causing the heatshield to ride up too high.i still love this vt-1,but man,i wasn't expecting such a difference in design to the 1 seater 1/60
  15. my friend(mechamaniac) has both the M&M 1j's & his are both flawless.i like these 2 better than hikaru's 1j purely for the fact that the custom clear armour set yamato made looks sick on the m&m's 1j's.if you have a set,get a m&m.the bright, solid colours set that clear armour off like no other white valk can
  16. hey andy, that's great that you can help me & neil out in that department.i have another question though, how big is the file on that download? i only have a basic hotmail account,so i can't recieve anything larger than 1mb as an attachment.if this is a large download,i may ask you to accept mine for me(especially since you have a cable connection too) when it's time to order mine.can you just put in the order for mine & neil's at the same time as you order yours? is that doable?
  17. yes,if episode 2 of sdf macross showed the vf-1d's heatshield sliding from the top, that is wrong.it slides from the sides in 2 pieces that meet in the center.the ve-1 & vt-1 are both variable to all 3 modes, but just aren't shown doing that in the movie.i was wondering if this heatshield deployment method was standard for all 2 seaters in the tv series & movie,or is yamato just using this style carried over from it's vf-1d to save on mold tooling.when the 1/55 custom craze was big around here, all vf-1d kits had this special heatshield included.but,i never remember anybody making a special 1 for the ve-1 & vt-1.as much as we attend to the details around here,it just makes me wonder if this is cannon or not
  18. i transformed my yamato vt-1 superostrich for the 1st time today & i noticed the heatshield is a 2 piece design just like the (VF-1D)tv version trainer(the VE-1 is the same too).i remember from my 1/55 custom days that this style heatshield was correct, but is this true for 2 seater DYRL? valks too?.what i'm refering to,is in the anime, the heatshield slides from the sides in 2 pieces instead of sliding down from the top like standard 1 seater valks.this process was only animated in the tv series on the 1D & not in DYRL?,but they look the same,so it got me to wondering.anybody else wonder this,or is it just me? *****no comments from the peanut gallery****** i know i could probably just check the compendium, but i thought it would be more fun to discuss here.here's a pic of the heatshield:
  19. i haven't seen it personally, but everybody who went to hg's panel at otakon & saw the new mpc alpha told me that it sucks.not worth picking up
  20. yeah,i'm w/ neil.if i can pay a little extra to get a set sent to me on nice stock, then i definately want a set.my printer sucks too,so it'd do me no good to download a set.any chance of this?
  21. hehehe "i had sex with your honor student"....... ...."then macronized him"
  22. i much prefer the 1/48 over the 1/60 also for articulation, perfect transformation & it's size.i found my first 1 much easier to transform than the 1/60.i was easily able to action pose it only a few minutes out of it's box.before this,i was use to "undoing the puzzle" of my 1/60 & 1/72 plus valks.i had to get comfortable in a seat, cause i knew transformation time was gonna be a few minutes till i was finished(my vf-11 was a nightmare for me).yamato's cryptic directions weren't much help w/ just kanji & arrows pointing at things for an explaination.i liked how i could transform my 1/48 in a few minutes w/o looking at the instructions. on the flipside though,i LOVE my 1/60 elintseeker & ostrich.i think their armour sets are very acurate looking & fit together easily & securely.i had a 1/60 strike roy & i remember struggling to get the packs on the posts & once they were on,alligning them seemed to require much fenagling.i worried about using too much force on these cause the little metal posts didn't look too sturdy.the 1/60 lacks in the transformation department, but the sculpt, armour detail & fitment & attention to asthetic detail on the ve-1 & vt-1 make me love them despite the transformation issues
  23. the saying "if this__is a rockin',don't come a nockin'" isn't originally from "will & grace" it was a popular sticker that custom van guys put on their rides back in the '70's.that's when that saying originated
  24. yeah,i just came from otakon were 1 guy(pandora's cube) in the dealer room was trying to get $89 for the 3-disc boxes.across the room animego had a booth set up & you could buy the sets directly from them for $55 per box & you got a free shirt.
  25. isn't perfect edition DYRL? different than the official region 2 disc? i think they're not the same.does your perfect edition have a region 2 code only on it? i could be wrong, but i think the region 2 DYRL? that soluscud007 was refering to is the exclusive japanese version
