  1. I agree. There is no mention in the show when the sample was shown that there are from Bandai. They didn't even said that it is a product. From my limited understanding of Japanese, it seem that Kawamori just show off some 3D sculpt of this design. And the girl goes: wah, how much does it cost to create these. Enough money to buy a car?! and so on. But my command of Japanese is fairly limited, so I could be wrong. I watch the video at work, so didn't replay a few time to try to understand more.
  2. Hi, If you are starting the second list for the 1/72 monster, please add me in for 1. I been waiting for this while regretting not getting my name on the 1st list for a long time now.
  3. I am in for one if there is any left.
  4. Thanks for posting these links. The first link is where I first learn about pastel chalk wash. It was good to re-read it again. I was trying to find a idiot proof method when I work on my first model. I really recommend this method to any first timer. It is very easy and you can redo from start very easily if you make a mistake or don't like the result. With a little bit of patient (on shallow panel line, the chalk get wiped off quite easily) I manage to get very good result using this technique. I am very happy with the final look. Even beginner can achieve pro result with this. It feels like cheating. The extra bonus of weathering effect is also a big plus. For a first timer, panelling and weathering are very daunting tasks. The risk of ruining the result of hours of hard work makes me feel really uneasy, until I learn about this method.
  5. No problem Andy, the problem is really minimal (like Straycatt said) and it is mainly due to the original nose cone being not symmetrical. I am sure it is easy to fix, I was just asking for advise from more experienced resin kit builder for some advise in how to deal with it. Anyone who is still thinking of getting this kit, please do so before it run out. It is so nice that I am thinking of getting another one.
  6. The kit arrived just now. The casting quality is very good. This seems to be the best looking VF-4 compared to the club-M and the Retppu version. Thanks Andy. There is just one small problem (carried over from the original kit, I guess), the thruster panel (not sure if this is indeed for thruster or not, have not check the line art) next to the cockpit is slightly miss-aligned. The pair on the port side seems ok, but the starboard side pair need some work. Anyone have any idea how to deal with this? My expericen in resin or model building is very limited, any advise will be helpful. the isside of this thruster panel is also not smooth. Some sanding will remedy that, I think. But I can't imagine how I go about sanding the inside of the panel without doing other damage. What sort of tools will be useful to do this ? A great kit in general. Very happy that I decided not to pass on this. vf4_small_prob.bmp
  7. I am waiting for the same kit to arrive on the mail. I will be keeping a close watch on this thread (even I have no plan yet to start building the VF-4 soon). Thanks for sharing and I wish you all the luck and may the modelling God watch over your work.
  8. I agree. Take the YF-19 and YF-21 in Macross plus, they are both bigger then VF-1 even if they come later in the time line. This is indeed a difficult problem for any prequel. But I am not too concern about this myself. The VF-0S looks good at that size, I think. The VF-1 is a bit small, but since I know them since my childhood, I sort of get use to them. I have yet to see both VF-1 and the other bigger 1/72 models side by side in real life, so I don't know for sure how I would react to that. (need to speed up my macross model building schedule.....)
  9. jeffQ, I am thinking of making my next model that can be posed in flight or landing mode. I am at a lost at how to create the hinge for the door of the landing gear bay. Where can I buy the small hinges you used in your model? Did you make them yourself?
  10. 1/32 perfect transformation from Hasegawa? That will be sweet, but I am not as hopeful as you are. Even some Gerwalk model will be nice.
  11. Welcome to Macross World Forum! Your work is great. I am a member of HKML too. seen your work there. I hope more people from HKML will post here. Many people like the great model created by the member from HKML. How long does it take for you to finish this transforming VF-0S ?
  12. Just seen this: http://www.hkml.net/Discuz/viewthread.php?...;extra=page%3D1 I think it is impressive. Very creative custom. Seems like it was based on (or a copy) of a project reported in Model Graphix. Anyone know which issue?
  13. He is saying that he will start work soon and will not have so much time building air craft models. H also said that he has about 109 F-14 kits build. Amazing work. I wish I can find time to build a few more macross kit. Big F, I have post a message there to told him about our interest here about his work too.
  14. I will give it a try. I still need to find a shop in UK that have a good stock of Gunze stuff. Will report back on the different between the two.
  15. Hi, I been using base white as primer when the top color is too light to use the grey surfacer. At first I use the grey surfacer first and just before painting, use the base white to cover up the grey. But after I found out that you can also sand the base white and it seems to fill small imperfection just like the surfacer, I start to use it as primer. It is not as good as the grey surfacer in showing area that need more preparation, but it is convenient and I have less risk of convering up the fine panel lines in the hase kits (I am still very bad at re-scribing panel lines, and painting) if I don't need to cover the grey with a few layes of base white. I notice that apart from their wonderful grey surfacer, there is a white color version, called white surfacer. I wonder if anyone who has try this can tell me if this is this the same as the base white ? Is it worth trying out? Thanks in advance.
  16. Someone at the HKML did a nice pair of super VF-1J for Max and Milia. His picture could be of some use to you. http://www.hkml.net/Discuz/viewthread.php?...;extra=page%3D4 There are more picture in page 2 (post 23).
  17. I am speechless. I can't wait to see this bird fly. Choosing the Nora color scheme instead of the Ivanov one will make this more striking in flight, I think. I hope you are planning to take some video so that we can enjoy the glory of this creation in its "natural" environment.
  18. I saw this at a hk forum: Macross 25å‘¨å¹´è¨˜å¿µä½œå“ - 制作ãŒå§‹å‹•ï¼ Good News マクロス25周年記念作å“ã¨ãªã‚‹ マクロス最新作ã®åˆ¶ä½œãŒå§‹å‹•ï¼ 1982å¹´10月3æ—¥(æ—¥)åˆå¾Œ2時ã‹ã‚‰æ”¾é€ã‚’開始ã—ãŸã€Œè¶…時空è¦å¡žãƒžã‚¯ãƒã‚¹ã€ã€‚ 今年10月ã§ã€ãƒžã‚¯ãƒã‚¹ã‚·ãƒªãƒ¼ã‚ºã¯ãƒ†ãƒ¬ãƒ“放é€é–‹å§‹ã‹ã‚‰å››åŠä¸–紀を迎ãˆã¾ã™ã€‚ ãã®ãƒžã‚¯ãƒã‚¹ã®æœ€æ–°ä½œã€Œãƒžã‚¯ãƒã‚¹25(ä»®)ã€ãŒã„よã„ã‚ˆå§‹å‹•ï¼ ã¾ãŸã€ç¾åœ¨ç™ºå£²ä¸ã®Newtype7月å·ã«ã¦ã€ マクロス最新作ã«ã¤ã„ã¦ã®æƒ…å ±ã‚„8月18æ—¥ã«é–‹å‚¬ã•ã‚Œã‚‹25周年記念ライブ <Minmay meets Fire Bomber>ã®æƒ…å ±ãªã©ã€ 6ページã«æ¸¡ã£ã¦æŽ²è¼‰ï¼ From www.macross.co.jp My Japanese is not good enough for proper translation, but seems like there will be some 6 pages coverage of a live recording event "Minmay meets fire bomber" which is scheduled for 18th Aug in the July edition of the Newtype magazine. I wish we can see some of these pages.... On another item: Has anyone seen this Macross mad movie ? Most of the scene are pretty HQ, wonder where it came from. Have not seen these before (please forgive my ignorance if this is obvious).

I read up on different techniques and end up trying the safest. I use pastel chalk. It is very easy to work with and erorr prove. Since you can just wash it off with water and redo if you make a mistake. The chalk is cheap too, I bought a few standard weathering colors chalk bar for just a few pounds. Just shave the bar into powder using an old knife and mix some water and washing liquid (to help bind the powder together once dried).

Thank you guys for the encouraging remarks. This is indeed my first model. I did spend a lot of time to try to get things right, it took me over 5 months (with many disasters on the way) to build that. The pictures are "not very good" in the sense that it hide a lot of imperfection. The real things look worst then what the pictures imply. I mainly screwed up on the use of Future floor polish. I tried to airbrush it on, but that didn't works too well. And I turned to use hand brush. After many layers, the finishing is very bad. It looks grainy and uneven. It is quite hard to see from the pictures. Sorry to dispel everyone's good regards but here is some pictures I have taken just now to shows what I mean. But in general I am quick happy and did enjoy building the kit. From a reasonable distant, it looks great (I know many people here don't like the nora's strange colour scheme, but it looks very striking and aggressive to me). The final result give me great satisfaction. I have bought some super clear from the mr. color range and will try that in my next build to see if it is going to be easier to work with that Future.
  22. completed this a while back. I appreciate that advises from people in this forum when I was stuck with some difficulties. This is my first model and the result is not that great, I am working on a VF-0S battroid now. Here is some pictures to share. My camera skill is also not that good.
  23. I have no experience on decal printing. But I have access to color laser printer. I have been thinking of trying to print off some decal to see if it will works well. But I am yet to find a good source to buy one or two peices of clear decal paper for laser printer. I have recieve warning from Anasazi about laser printing being non-opaque. Especially if the paint color on the model is a brighter color then the decal color.
