1. I was under the impression that the Marduk war took place in 2080 and lasted months rather than years...

More speculation on your part or is it from specific reference material?

Actually I haven't updated those dates in about six years, I just recently got the DVD version of the movie, and need to fix that, since it says 80 years after the last war, I need to adjust it to about 2090 or 2091, although the way I was running it in my campaign other Marduk forces faced outlying colonies.

I like MII but one of the biggest flaws is fleet size in the show, there should be tons of Terran built vessels eighty years after the last war, but there only seems to be about five or six capitol ships and maybe a couple dozen smaller vessels.

2. wow. those are some pleasant names.

the macross cannon always was the main reason I liked the MacII

Those aren't canon names, I used them for an RPG I ran for a short time; and most of the stats are guess information based on trying to measure and determine distances from other ships in the show.

3. Actually the Global looking fellow is one of the brain washed Macross crew glued to a monitor.   It is more of a easter egg/gag then a real appearance to me.

They refer to him as Captain so I guess Goval got demoted. Unless you are talking about somebody else. He also has a beard instead of a mustache and no accent, although that could simply be because he was an unnamed character. Also, he would be much older looking.

427859

I think you guys might be referring to two different people, the guy with the mustache is I think part of the security force and the gentlemen with the beard is named somewhere on the Macross Compendium.

Higgins, the guy on the right side is the new captain of the SDF-01.

4. You know what I really don't appreciate having myself likened to some 16 year old twit that can't spell or use proper grammar.

The fact of the matter is the majority of games that I've ever seen Nintendo put out are targeted towards younger audiences.

As for the VHS and Beta thing, I'm not even going there because obviously you can't have a conversation without insulting someone.

5. well, i'm planning on getting a PS3 eventually, so if they rerelease DYRL? on blu-ray, (highly doubtful), then i would buy it.

i'm not getting the HD-DVD drive for my 360 though.

415180

I'm having serious doubts the PS3 is gonna survive.

Sony's following the traditional pattern of the video game industry, where the dominant hardware company grows overconfident, believes they are invincible, and then shoots themself in the head.

415183

All the companies are having the same problem 360's smoking problem, the Wii's retarded name and several other considerations that just aren't making me personally happy with all three companies.

415188

Only Sony is making the same mistakes that led to the fall of the House of Atari, the Kingdom of Sega, and the Nintendo Empire.

MS is still playing the traditional "Man, I wish I was number 1" role, and Nintendo is doing their own thing, which has become what they're best known for post-SNES.

Of course, Nintendo's the only one to fall and remain relevant, so clearly they're doing something right.

415189

I think that's mainly from the fact that nintendo's market is little kid type of games alot of the time.

As for Sony they'll always pull crap and bounce back from it, let's not forget Beta.

7. That would make sense pre-Space War I but during Space War I it didn't really seem to matter especially since they had video games that depicted the VF-1.
They were still equipped mainly for F-mode takeoff and landing.
I was referring to just taking off and landing in gerwalk mode. They show the Valkyrie having no problems going from a stand-still to great speeds in fighter mode with little problems. Also, it would be faster to deploy the Valkyrie in gerwalk mode than it would be to prepare and launch a Valkyrie in fighter mode. They don't have to line the gerwalk up with anything nor attach it to a catapult nor launch it down a runway to get it up to speed.

In space, reaction mass matters.

While in an atmosphere you have a limitless supply of air to propel yourself with, in space you have to carry something to eject for every twist, turn, and boost.

Launching from a catapult sent them moving towards the enemies for no reaction mass cost, thereby increasing the VF's operational time.

It saves fuel, in short.

Dunno if the Macross' internal hangers had catapults, though.

On the ground, it's probably just a matter of what mode the VF was parked in. Easier to launch in your current mode than it is to transform and takeoff.

414222

Easier to land in Gerwalk mode than it is to land in fighter mode seeing as you can come from nearly any angle then hover and land especially on carrier landings. On land, if in Gerwalk mode, the VFs would only need to walk from cover then take off. It would be every VF at the same time as opposed rolling out the VF, lining it up on the runway, queuing the VFs as not all of them can use the runway at the same time, taking off then circling until the entire squadron makes it off the ground, then forming up and attacking.

414306

It may also have more to do with tradition and the fact that the poor schmoes in the control tower don't have to track 600 Valk's taking off simultaneously, god think of the air traffic control nightmare that would cause.

8. Okay does anyone know how fast the main engines of the Macross propels it, and if it's really fast wouldn't people get turned into paste even with artificial gravity.

This may sound like a stupid topic, but I've been re-reading David Weber's Honor Harrington series and the idea of inertial compensators has been niggling at the back of my head especially when the did the sling shot around Saturn.

9. If someone needs line art let me know I've got the cleaned up stuff on my site plus I still have all the original 600dpi scans that I used for them. The only stuff I haven't scanned yet is from the new Kawamori book.

Myself I'd be extremely happy if they came out with a series of books that covered one specific thing in each book; like mecha, valks, characters, ships, background stuff etc.

10. IMHO, SWI (Space War 1) is simply much easier to say than things like "Terrain-Zentraedi War of the Sol System."

Yes, it does imply that there was more than 1... maybe it's another untold story of the years between 2012 and 2045?

409776

Could there have possibly been large scale skirmishes between SDF and MPlus that just haven't been fleshed out yet in the actual timeline that could be considered SW2 to whatever.

409820

Wasn't the first space war between Spacy and the AUN Alliance?

Granted it wasn't large scale, but until the last month or so, neither was the Macross's "SW1"...

410003

Yes and no, it pretty much amounted to the AUN hijacking a destroyer blowing up the Mars base convoy and then getting blown up themselves from what I remember.

12. The quick summary goes something like this:

We discovered the hard way that Internet Explorer has become a liability, rather than a useful tool in this little endeavor, as IE 6 doesn't quite support a lot of the CSS elements we're using. Everything seems to work in test for NS6+ and Firefox 1.5, so I'm going to go ahead and call that one a success.

Flaming Gauntlet fired a few more artworks at us, namely for the Gigamesh I and II, and the Nosjadeul Ger and Nosjadeul Rau from Macross II: Lovers Again.

We're still cranking on getting the site working, something that isn't exactly helped by the fact that I can't seem to get a day off.

Once we get the main index up, we're going to announce it in our own thread.

406121

Sounds like it's time for MS to start from scratch with a new web browser, just wanted to check and make sure you hadn't gotten arrested for computercide.

Can you see the new index any better by the way.

13. According to This archive, there's a "Monitor Class" version of the Nupetiet which has the splitting ship and cannon, whereas the normal version doesn't contain this weapon... that seems to be a good explanation.

405432

That's all non-canon speculation.

And if nothing else, the "reflex furnace" part flags it as Robotech-ism. Robotech stuff strays pretty far from Macross' "reality" at times.

405445

As stated on the main page it's not all canon, plus some of that data is almost 10 years old from when I did my first page based on Robotech, unfortunately I'm still only one person and don't always remember to catch old Robotech phrasings.

As for my reference to there being two types of Nupetiet I don't ever remember seeing the one in the series splitting so that's where that comes from.

It would also be a little more accurate if I could actually find someone to actually translate stuff for me, but my search goes on.

405547

There are a couple of times in the series when Vrlwhitai could have used a main cannon on his ship but didn't (notably "Viva Maria"). So either his ship didn't have one, or it wasn't working. Considering the all the refit/repair work shown in "Viva Maria" I don't find the second explanation very likely.

Given the only time we see a main gun equipped Nupetiet Vergnitz is in DYRL, do we even need to come up with an in-universe explanation other than the fictional producers of DYRL thinking it would look cool?

405614

The only plausible one I could think of is that the ones in DYRL are either refit or newer models that were built after the possible success of the Gun Destroyer, but oh well.

14. Okay, here goes since I've been getting so much flack over stuff lately not being canon, let me reiterate, the site is not canon, says so on the main page in big letters.

Although I am willing to compromise, next update I'll be adding a suggestion, corrections, questions section, your SC&Q's will be put with date that they were done, I'm always open to any help I can get, mainly because I'm only one person and can't read japanese.

So if you have any of the above just e-mail me or answer here.

Hey Seto how are things going on your end?

16. Okay the update is actually up sooner than I thought it would be, enjoy, click on the updates link at the bottom of the index page for a full list of updates.

17. Nice work guys. I really like what i am seeing. What is the VF-5 going to be named ? Sea Valkyrie maybe :p

404826

Siren, Tsunami, Typhoon?

18. Pardon any rudeness gang, between work, my gaming groups, and the evilness of AOL [although much relieved after taking a case of 12-gauge .00 to about a hundred and fifty AOL discs] I'll hopefully have an update next week, just about done with the Destroids in the UN section.

Hey Fiery I need some non-macross related art help. Please.

19. Interesting new index.

Plain, a little on the bland side. You could consider doing a different set of effects for the left to right fade there, because on low contrast monitors that's going to be nearly impossible to read. I've got a freaking ultrapremium gaming LCD monitor and I can barely read the right side of most of those buttons.

Also, you've got a few minor spelling and context issues there. For starters, the NERV slogan is "God's in his heaven. All's right with the world." See attachment for confirmation. Using the contractions is right and proper, and ironically saves you space so you can use a font that ain't so damn tiny.

Also, that second line of text under "Assault on Reflex Point" is IMPOSSIBLY small. And you've got a typo in the Full Metal Panic one. "An" would need to be "A" to be the proper useage.

402489

Well it'll have to stay that way for awhile, I'm in a rather POed mood with AOL and don't feel like fighting with there crappy service to fix things at the moment.

AOL = Somthing Worse Than The Anti-Christ.

Thanks for the update though and I already knew about the Evangelion thing, about an hour after I did it I finally found my art-book again which had gone AWOL.

Any news on that banner yet.

20. Movies always want to change stuff though. Spider man with web coming out of his wrists instead of cartridges was my main gripe though. And hulk turning variable sizes based on anger like one of the hulk clones in the image comics was a bad idea.

Why do they do it?

I get pissed off for example like in the dolph lundgren punisher movie, where they didn't have the skull emblem on the shirt. Its part of the character.

402338

Same here on the punisher thing although I had many others besides.

Unfortunately all people care about is cash cowing things *cough* silent hill *cough*.

21. Looks o.k., I was into GR back in the day for a while. So the clip where GR is riding alongside the cowboy-ghost rider, is that in homeage to the old Marvel weild west Ghost Rider? Are the badguys in this movie the vampires in the beginning?

402243

Skull looks more Texeira or Garney than McFarlane to me, and I hope that isn't supposed to be the cowboy ghost rider, since it would be horribly inaccurate considering he never had supernatural powers.

22. Hope nobody minds me updating a little info for Ghost Rider since I work in a comic shop, the latest series [6-Issues, November 2005-April 2006/Art By Clayton Crain with Punisher Alumni Garth Ennis doing the writing] has Johnny Blaze trapped in Hell as Ghost Rider sans Zarathos and double crossed by Angels, Demons, and Texas oil barons.

If it wasn't for the chains, bones, and other crap the bike would look very close to the one in the newest comic, also he does use chains alot including one new trick where he spits several chains out of his mouth, as well as being able to spew fire and redirect shot projectiles, I guess being torn apart by demons and devils everynight you learn a few new tricks.

Although they need to add a headlight with the GR emblem on it, but it was also shown in Hearts of Darkness GN that he could also turn any bike into his wheels in a pinch.

Also JB made a deal with whatever they were calling the devil [mephiso possibly] at the time to save Crash Simpsons life from dying of cancer, although the idiot went and got killed in a stupid stunt anyway.

Oh also if I remember correctly John and Dan may actually be brothers I need to dig out my Marvel Knights Encyclopedia and double check though.
