  1. I wouldn't be surprised to learn that the fighter mode was displayed like that to show how much higher the legs rest in fighter mode vs. version 1. -b.
  2. Thanks for posting the link - I have mixed feelings about the trailer, but I'm still very game to see the movie. -b.
  3. ...suspect that the extended version is more fleshed-out in terms of story or plot development. Based on the story and premise this is a good thing because if you start editing for time or content this movie has/had the potential to be a jumbled mess. I'll give the theatrical version a go later this week to see if that theory pans out or not. -b.
  4. Sorry, dude just found this pic while browsing and...real-life homemade scrap-metal BAY-FORMERS PRIME FTW! I dare you to find me a pick with two hotties next to G1 Prime. *edit to add link from where I nabbed the picture - linky -b.
  5. Ok, just purchased and watched the extended cut on Blu-ray today. I hadn't seen the movie prior to today but was well aware of the mixed reviews. I have to say I enjoyed it, I can also see why or how an edited theatrical cut would be harder to follow than the extended version. All in all I'm glad I purchased it and I can see myself watching this on more than this one occasion (even if I have to constantly adjust the volume for my neighbors during the fantasy scenes - damn the music and effects are LOUD). -b.
  6. The design/look of the YF-29 as really grown on me since I've had some time with the Bandai DX in addition to giving me hope for the VF-25 v2. On the note of the 19 or 29 and which is the better buy, hopefully I'm not the only one that finds it funny or odd that the talk of better QC (at least for these two releases) has trended in favor of one particular direction/company over another. -b.
  7. Those pics are awesome Swoosh! I always enjoy seeing your posts in the "picture" threads. My wallet, not so much, because I end up wanting to buy more toys after seeing them. -b.
  8. ...I don't think anyone here can argue what they feel is more aesthetically pleasing, G1 or Bay-formers because beauty is in the eye of the beholder - the more logical debate is what would or could translate into better box-office success. You take that into consideration then more likely then not some hard-core G1 fans are gonna be pissed because stuff designed in the 70's and 80's are probably not going to appeal to a younger, OR a more modern audience. There are talented folks that have made some pretty cool videos (Megatron O's ) and then there are the professionals at ILM, those folks that make effects for huge scale productions, that go on to gross a gazillion dollars. The first video that transitioned from the animated footage of TF:TM into CG was really cool, and I'd love to see Hasbro do something like that and release it to DVD/Blu-ray but in no way in hell would I go to see that in the theater. And I'm a 30-something that grew up watching Transformers on TV. And to the point of the first live action Transformers being a "good" movie - well taken into consideration how "not good" ROTF was and how "not as bad" as DOTM was, well then relatively speaking Transformers becomes damn near Oscar worthy. And oh yeah, it's possible to like G1 AND the live action designs. Because you like one "style" does not mean you can't also like the other. -b.
  9. Ok. Really. We need a pissing contest about how long the movie has been out now too? For my part posting spoiler-ish comments really was a mistake driven by my incorrect assumption that people who'd been posting recently had already seen the film. Regardless of what country they reside. PS - I also don't read any movie threads about movies I want to see once the movie is released until I've seen it. But that's just my strategy on how avoid spoilers. -b.
  10. My bad. Assumed most, or all that were posting during these past couple days had seen the film. -b.
  11. Well my DMK01 and 02 kits are on the way from HLJ. I'll more than likely not build Bumblebee since he appears to painting and what not to look better, but I'll build Optimus Prime right out of the box. Will post pics when completed. Please wish the non-modeler luck. -b.
  12. Yep. And you're 100% correct about the reason behind the "killing" of the older characters. You're probably right about Einstein-bot, it was hard to tell. I thought Optimus asked Sentinel for mercy, or something along those lines just before or after his arm got lopped off - but with all of Sam's screaming and frenetic action it was hard to keep track of dialogue. -b.
  13. The fans disappointment in the trilogy is exactly why we'd like to see another Transformers film made. So it can be done, right (whatever that may mean to the viewer), or at least better. *EDIT TO ADD* - VFTF1, your script is awesome!!! -b.
  14. Sure would like to see a trailer, or teaser trailer for the prequel. Hopefully it can stand on it's own and not partially or completely sully John Carpenter's "The Thing". -b.
  15. You're addressing (I think) multiple people and points of view and these views are not necessarily all of G1 vs. all of the live action films. For my .02 the G1 argument was purely about the design of the Transformers in their bot-mode and how that would not translate to mass appeal or box office success, not how the actual characters would act in a given situation. Optimus Prime killing the giant miscellaneous-con in the beginning of ROTF was incredibly out of character for the Prime we grew up with or know from the many cartoons and/or comics, but totally in character for what was created for the live-action movies - especially after viewing the trilogy on a whole. Unfortunately I think the subject matter alone would make praise for a Transformer on the merits of pure script or movie-making pedigree are pretty slim. I mean...it's sentient robots that turn into cars for the sake of hiding in plain sight AKA either 1/2 hour animated commercials or 3 hour long commercials for children/adult collectors toys and merchandise. And most of us fans being big kids or adult collectors we eat this stuff up. -b.
  16. Agreed. The Autobots tended to act more like Decepticons in these movies with Prime having plenty of out of character moments. Somebody brought up a point in one of these threads that the Autobots were pretty hard core when it came to "dealing" with Decepticons but then asked for mercy when captured. Reminds me of the scene in TF:TM when Prime said to Megs "you who are without mercy now plea for it? I thought you were made of sterner stuff." I caught the part when Sentinel said Spock's line but I totally glossed over the part of the little bots watching the old episode of Trek. Hell, that might be the only piece of plot in the whole movie! -b.
  17. Not sure who Dr. Smoov is, but there are some talented folks out their that are capable of putting together fan-made films, or at least clips of CG vehicles transforming like their G1 counterparts. And yeah, Wash was in DOTM, and his character was a huge waste of space. It does suck about Firefly and Serenity. Re: the Bay Transformer films I really wanted to just sit back and enjoy them for what they were. The actual designs don't bother me - but the non-plot and intellectually insulting characters (human and robot) made it so damn hard to really like the movies, this despite having some favorites like Bumblebee and Prime (from the combined 15 minutes of him actually being bad-ass). Re: G1 - I'd love to have a nice Blu-ray release of the Transformers: The Movie. -b.
  18. Transformers as they appeared in the original G1 carton, movie or many comic adaptions would not translate well into a live action format. With the way CG and even practical effects have evolved I seriously doubt the movie-going public would have made the Transformer live-action films as monetarily successful as they've been. And don't forget that's why big budget blockbusters get made, not to satisfy the wants and needs of fanboys and girls. Hell, Serenity was a great example of that, it was a good show as Firefly and by a wing and a prayer got a theater release. As well liked as it was by fans and I think critics it didn't make the coin to continue the franchise in TV or movie form. Sorry to all of the old-school fans, or fans of the old-school, that want to see Prime in all his G1 goodness, either from the cartoons or movies it just won't get butts into the seats. Stylized like Dreamwave or IDW or not. Better of for worse you might as well cozy up to "Bay-formers" or similar designs or just let go of hope of seeing the type of Transformers movies you seem to want so badly. And if part 4 gets made, or if they re-boot for the love of God I hope they don't put another screaming nerd in the lead role (looking at you Shia). -b.
  19. Agreed about being on the tail-end of this particular (or our) nostalgia boom. It's too bad, but I am grateful to have had the means to take part in buying the types products I've wanted since I was a kid. Hopefully with Frontier and any other future Macross shows the fan base grows with a newer/younger audience and in turn keep companies making products I want to spend my disposable income on. On topic - without denying the glowing reviews I'm still on the fence about the VF-19, and without having watched any of Macross 7 I'm also pretty ambivalent about the relatively expensive "maybe it does, maybe it doesn't" MP3 playing Sound Booster. -b.
  20. RZA? Really? REALLY? Scratch what I said earlier about casting/story and the chance for that matinee ticket... -b.
  21. What, no love for the Dual Mode kits? http://www.tfw2005.com/transformers-news/transformers-movie-toys--products-30/more-dual-model-optimus-prime-images-172632/ http://www.toysdaily.com/discuz/thread-158208-1-4.html Looks nice right out of the box, hopefully it can be posed without fear of parts popping off every which way. -b.
  22. Yeah, with all the love being heaped onto both I may have to bite the bullet and find some money for the 19. I'd already broken down against my original "not that aesthetically pleasing" argument against the 29 and pre-ordered a few months ago. *shipping notice from AmiAmi about an hour ago. However, about that Hot Toys statement - those things aren't cheap either so pick your poison! Hey, hey - I have three, Iron Man Mark VI, War Machine and Machiko (the "she" Predator) and after only opening the Iron Man FIGURES I have to say these are closer to toy-models a-la Yamato than action figures or that phrase you used that I refuse to re-type. -b.
