  1. yes. more pay == more effort into work. It always depends on the industry and of course the individual, but I can tell you asside from the minor outlier, union work less effective than non-union. This is how it works: The union protects the workers so they can suck ass and nobody can fire them. Unions = sh!t work. Here here brother. We had a guy here at my work who is completely incompitent and only still has a job because of the union. Luckily he is no longer our problem though, we transferred him off to the Tomahawk group, so if in a couple years you hear about T-Hawks going off course and hitting the wrong target you know who to blame.
  2. Ok how about a better example, let's list all the animated series/movies that have been translated to live action with comments about them. I'll start: Flintstones: Let's not even go into how bad they messed this up Scooby Doo: Decent, but only becuase they were making fun of themselves the whole time. Gundam: I think the reasons for why the gundam LA movie was bad are too many to list Those are all I can think of now that weren't comic books first. I know someone may bring this up, "what about going the other directions, look how many good LA movies/shows have gone to animated well." Just think about that first, it is so much easier to do sci-fi and fantasy in an animated format, you can go more extreme for far less money and go into more depth on the characters and give them more adventures. The "Real" Ghostbusters is a great example, good movies, lots of fun and translated well to small screen cartoons because of its partially comedic nature. WHere it ran into trouble was after the second movie and the cartoon tried to work the continuity of the movies back into the cartoon despite the fact that the second movie destroyed the cartoon continuity. Basically going from any animated medium, or comic medium to a live action medium is going to be extremely difficult and its not just the technological considerations. There is so much history in the story of any anime or comic before it goes to film that you cannot hope to fill in all the back story successfully and please all the fans.
  3. This brings to mind two great quotes I was brought up with: 1) If it ain't broke, don't fix it. (Macross is fine and works well as an anime, why run the risk?" 2) Just because you can do something doesn't mean you should. (I could, if I wanted to go out and just start randomly blowing away all the bad drivers I encounter, and there are times I am tempted, but it doesn't mean I will.) Yes a live action version of Macross "could" be made if big west wanted to, and could be made in the states if HG would allow it. However should it be made, probably not because no matter what when an animated feature translates to movie there are far too many comprimises made to make it work and very few fans of the original end up satisified.
  4. Close up of the MSPs, the endcover and stencilling is almost a direct rip from my round simulators at work.
  5. Thanks A1. Anyway this is a non-update. I have not done anything on the fighter itself but threw together a preliminary MSP (Missile Simulator Pod) to hang off the wings since the first varient I will make is the trainer. The MSP is based loosely in concept and design in the Simulators we use for our launchers here at work. It will undergo many revisions and redetailing but I like it so far and it should add a little something extra to the trainer varient S-1000. Also I am asking for a little help, I have an idea for the squadron logo I want on the trainers but do not have the artistic talent to create it. Basically it would go on the wing anhedral and it should be cartoony. What I am thinking is a RImdook (basically a sentient Velociraptor) chasing after a cadet that looks suspisciously like Spaceman Spiff. Any takers on this one would be greatly appreciated. I'm going to start in on the detailing today, and have decided not to put a boarding ladder on this, no real place to put one. Appreciate any comments you all have.
  6. Hey man for 1/100 scale it was pretty nice, too bad we may never get them.
  7. And since this beasty is being flown by mercs, how about my first try at a little creative wing art, sorry no nudity here, the lady has too much class. A cookie to whomever figures out who she is first.
  8. Registry
  9. Get out the fork this beast is done:
  10. Last Update for the evening: 1) Fixed the lateral nose thrusters, put them into a much tighter pack closer to the nose since the Plasers were moved. 2) Played with various positions on the Plasers, moved them back to where I first moved them, suggestions? 3) cut and installed the control surfaces on the wings and dorsal tail, it grew one me 4) played with the color some more, trying to figure out the perfect shade of mustard yellow for the trainer varient, which is the first version I will do. I think this is about the most I can do on this at work for now, I will start panelling and detail work tonight or tomorrow. Thing is it still feels like something is missing, not sure what that could be though, any ideas?
  11. I'm fairly middle of the road about M7, mostly I just can't stand Mylene and Basara, those two are very annoying, plus the idea of using music as a physical weapon, well that just seems strange to me. I would have much prefered it if they had something along the lines that Basara's voice somehow, maybe throught that harness of his, tapped into the fabric of space time, using it as a weapon. Possibly some holdover SUpervision Army/Protoculture weapon, kind of like how Sara can control gravity with her singing in Mac-0.
  12. New Underside
  13. As per Akilae's suggestion I played around with the PLASER Cannon placement this morning. I put them back under the nose like they were on the original, just slid back quite bit. I kind of like them there. I also installed the landing gear, and in the process had to redo the ventral thrusters on the engines. I think it came out well over all. Since I m oved the PLASER cannons I am going to redo the lateral nose thrusters. I will play around with the PLASER placement a little more as well. Then move onto the control surfaces and after that I think my work computer will be out of the game and it will be time to take this bad boy home to detail it. Oh yeah and since we have an undercarriage we also have the obligatory landed shot. Comments?
  14. Update time: Except for a couple small fixes, as well as the wingtip cannons and thrusters, which I will do tomorrow night, call this beasty done. I've done it up in the colors of the 77th Tactical Reaction Wing, a mercenary group flying under the monicker of Black Knights. Enjoy.
  15. IF you want to know how big a 1:72 scale Nimitz Class Aircraft Carrier model would be, check this out. This is a picture I took in Fredricksburg, TX at the Nimitz museum about a year ago with my nephew's digital camera.
  16. I will eventually do a PDE powered version, but the changes there will only be to the engines and shouldn't be too major to accomplish.
  17. Last update for tonight. I am about at the limits of what my work computer can take on here and still work at a reasonable speed. However I still have some things I want to do on here before I start doing the really detailed stuff at home. Anyway here is what I have done: 1) Added a Dorstal fin, it may or may not stay, I am not quite feeling right about it. 2) Installed all the main thruster banks, I will do a tally later, needless to say this little beasty should be fairly manueverable. 3) I installed sensor pods on the anhedraled dogtooth area, not quite sure about where or not I will keep those though, thoughts? I still have the undercarriage and control surfaces to model in before I start detailing and am still open to suggestions on how to improve the design, any ideas? Something just seems to be missing right now and I am not sure what.
  18. Looks like I'm Metafilter too:
  19. LOL, I love that.
