A matte finish won't avoid chipping, especially when applied over a smooth plastic surface.  You should hit every raised edge with sandpaper to roughen it up, especially where it's likely to contact another painted surface:

Repainting a transformable toy can be a daunting task!  

Thanks for the tips @tekering.  I don’t plan to transform it much sense it will be in my SDFM HMR diorama.

Yep brushed the color on and then brushed matte finish to avoid chipping.

Looking for a new or used Yamato VF-1 1/60 Super Strike parts set.  

They are reliable for the most part.  Shipping can be a little sluggish tho.

@Kuma Style Once you get those super parts on you’ll be hooked!! The VF-25 renewals are awesome! One gripe it the thigh joints get loose.  But that can be rectified with some nail polish or super glue to tighten them up.
