    Bandai DX VF-31

I had little interest in the -30 when it came out, but those pics really sell it. Touch of regret. Missile pod notwithstanding, I think the proportions are a little better with the -30, esp the forearms. The -31's are really thin and just don't look as good.
  2. For that price, I'm almost tempted to get UW Devastator. Almost. I'm still disheartened by the number of shortcuts taken with the individual Constructicons, even on the superior Takara version. I'm surprised they didn't make their own toon-accurate Mixmaster, given their proclivities of late. I have UW Bruticus PO'd with HLJ, and I've been looking at PE's add-on sets. I really wish they'd offer a basic hands and feet set for like $20. I'd buy a set for my Menasor and for Bruticus.
  3. When your Arcadia arrives and you put it next to the old Yammie, I think you'll be pleased. One caveat: watch those ankles! Max's ride sure is purty.
  4. I'd love a MP Cyclonus...I've always really liked his design. I've been eyeballing Xtransbot's Eligos for some time now, and if TT could match that, I'd go for the official. Unfortunately, TT are not pumping MPs out very quickly, certainly not as fast as third parties. Gotta say, though, seeing Eligos sitting on its retractable landing gear with mini Megatron in that little detailed cockpit fills me with all sorts of happiness. A new MP Megatron is high on the want/need list, too. I have Appollyon, and he's a pretty cool figure, but I'd still like to have an official version. I wish they'd made a distinct mold for CW Cyclonus instead of recycling that awful Silverbolt mold, esp after Titans Return Galvatron and Scourge were shown at NY Toy Fair. Both of those figs are very true to their G1 look, and I wish there was an equally accurate leader or voyager Cyclonus figure coming. Can't wait to get that Galvatron.
  5. Yeah, the dragon idea is intriguing, but at the end of the day, I still think I'd prefer a more anthropomorphic battroid.
  6. To include new in-scale Dinobots (all 5 this time), Constructicons, Skyfire, Insecticons, Reflector, and new Seekers. I want a complete roster of the First Season in MP glory; that's not much to ask considering the roster of bots 30+ years on. For now, Leader class Jetfire does a good job of filling the Skyfire void, but I'd love to have him in an official MP. I loved his character; ironic that his voice was supplied by the voice of Grimlock, Mr. Gregg Berger. I'd also love the Constructicons, but I guess the CW figures are the closest we're going to get. If they make a new MP F-15 Con mold, I hope they can reproduce the original transformation where the arms form the spine of the fighter; I've always liked that, and the only other version that replicated it was the Robot Masters line. http://www.transformertoys.co.uk/resources/review/robot+masters/+skywarp+/2541
  7. Wow, that GoaGaiGar combination scene is pure sweet mecha porn. Lovely artwork throughout, too.
  8. Well, judging by their placement, they will be mounted to both inside and outside lower legs in B and G modes, if indeed they are also mounted topside.
  9. Saw it today with my wife; we both enjoyed it. John Goodman was great, and my hat's off to the writers, director, and Mary Winstead for creating a realistic strong, intelligent female protagonist, esp in a film of this genre, where they are generally helpless and make poor decisions. I enjoyed how the movie maintains its tension throughout, punctuated by a few humorous moments. Good movie. I'm not a doomsday planner by any means, but that bunker is pure awesome.
  10. Somehow, space is even more interesting when she's talking about it.
  11. I'll agree we need more Cons, and I'm hoping for an all new MP Seeker mold, though I'm not holding my breath. However, the first season of the show is the only one I own and care for, and I'd love to see all those characters get the MP treatment. The Third Parties have a serious lead, but I'd still like to see TT make official toys. While the first season was by no means high art, I've always felt that there was a more serious tone to the show that was lost from second season forward. I noticed this at the age of 13 or 14, and although TF was my favorite show, I lost interest in it and had only a passing interest in most of the characters thereafter. So, that's where my bias originates. That said, although the Generations Springer and Arcee are really excellent figures IMO, I'd love to see both get the MP treatment, along with Blitzwing and Astrotrain. B/c triple changers, when done well, are awesome. The Titan's Return/Headmaster stuff coming this year should scratch the itch for many fans of later seasons. I've already PO'd Galvatron from HLJ. The new Scourge figure coming out is much more accurate to the Movie character, although I've always thought his Space Hovercraft mode was ludicrous, and still prefer the more realistic CHUG version loosely based on the X-48.

    BANDAI DX YF-19!!

The idea that two companies producing similar items from a particular IP are unable to produce those items simultaneously seems odd to me, esp if both have a license to produce said items. I will give no pretense as to understanding Japanese law in such a matter, but this sort of thing happens all the time. From a company's standpoint, esp in this case where both companies are producing nearly the same thing within a niche market, and each threatens the sales of the other, it's within each's best business interest to come to an agreement among themselves as to release dates, or producing variations so as not to step on each other's proverbial feet. Anyway, while I'm not wholly interested in obtaining another -19 from Bandai, the YF-21 is another matter entirely. I'd love to see what kind of engineering solutions they'd incorporate. The Yammie was decent, but favored the fighter to the detriment of its battroid. I'd like to have a more balanced toy.
  13. +Hound, Mirage, Trailbreaker, Sunstreaker, Cliffjumper, Brawn, Windcharger, Huffer, and Gears. That would fill out the original '84 Autobot roster nicely.

    BANDAI DX YF-19!!

With both an Advance and an Arcadia YF-19, I'm pretty satisfied on the -19 front. I'm with Mommar: for me to invest in more Bandai -19 toys, they'll have to roll out something new and interesting, and hopefully, remold the piece under the uni-boob to make it nice and contoured. The Supernova scheme would be tempting. Honestly, though, Delta toys notwithstanding, I'd rather see Bandai attempt some of Kawamori's earlier valk designs. I'm quite impressed with how well my Advance has held up ( been in battroid with full packs for months, with only minor changes to its pose, and not an iota of drooping, sagging, or loosening of the joints, nor have the wing packs fallen off- my Arcadia can only hold a certain pose due to the right ankle joint becoming completely friction-less and floppy after only a couple transformations ) While I think Arcadia beats Bandai in some areas, esp landing gear, clear plastic for lights, etc, overall The Advance demonstrates to me that their joints, esp those all important ankle joints, hold up for the long term. The Advance also shows some nice engineering, nice detailing, and lovely tampo all over (almost too much). So hopefully, they'll consider doing some of the as-yet unproduced older valk designs. I'd love to see them do a VF-9 or a VF-14. I'm all in for a Space Pope.
  15. Referring back to Seti88's photo, I'm digging the right paint scheme. I dislike yellow and gold, and pretty much most of their color variations, so a gold-less valk is the one for me. Still hoping those are mini-Koenigs on the wingtips.
  16. I've never seen the film nor read the manga, but the mecha designs are amazing. Those models are beautiful already without even being painted. I've always been fond of the Jagd Mirage "Green Demon", after seeing pics of a custom model at some convention years ago. It's such an intricate, delicate, and insectile design-very eyecatching. It'd make for a tedious, but rewarding production model. But so many of the other FSS mecha would also make great displays. I forget who posted it above, but I agree that these designs approach high art in this medium.

    BANDAI DX YF-19!!

That;s some serious handi-work on that Advance. There seems to be no shortage of amazing talent out there. Wish I had just a smidge. As for a possible Bandai YF-19 color scheme, I'll second Supernova. It always reminds me of this: http://www.mahq.net/mecha/macross/modelgraphix/yf-19-6th.htm That blue on white with all the various markings just looks fantastic.
  18. QFT. I didn't care for the Tornado packs, as they were just so over the top. The Super Packs looked good to me, although I'm glad they attach to the more solid wing roots rather than the wings themselves. I guess I prefer the simpler, less busy look. While there's something cool about oversized guns, boosters, and other add-on equipment so often featured in anime, they don't usually agree with gravity when realized in plastic Those -262 packs do look like mini-Koenigs. It'd be kinda cool if they separated and transformed to provide backup for the main valk, controlled by a backseater, or as A.I. controlled drones.
  19. That last line gives me both a good chuckle...and serious pause. Honestly, I don't think I'd have regret, at least not so much as I've had with other toy purchases over the years. Mileage varies. For fans, and for TT, it's a positive that they had a second use for the mold, warts and all, to recoup the cost of production. I'm still mulling whether to pick up one of them or just let it go. I must admit, I've been fascinated with the all-in-one tractor-trailer transformer idea ever since I saw the first TF commercial back in '83 and thought Prime was both cab and trailer forming the robot. Something about the engineering involved really grabbed me and has maintained a tenacious grasp over the past few decades. I still regret never picking up a Road ranger Gobot. I also never had the G1 Motormaster, who intrigued me, but was also so simplistic and brick-like that I have no regrets. When the Combiners were announced, I happily awaited a new all-in-one Motormaster, just to have my hopes dashed. He's still a decent figure, but I somehow feel like I've been cheated. I also built a fully functional, albeit partsforming, all-in-one tractor-trailer transformer from LEGO when I was in my late teens, based largely on the transforming scheme of Road Ranger. It worked well, but it hasn't survived the ravages of time, sadly. Anyway, the MP and UW/CW Magnus toys hold a certain fascination for me more from an engineering standpoint than for any connection with the character. Perhaps TMI, but this is where my interest in MP Magnus originates.
  20. I also noticed that MP Magnus doesn't have painted tail-lights, either. I mean, c'mon. While clear red plastic would be really nice and preferable, painted lights would at least show they tried. Small details like this should be a hallmark of the MP series. I also agree that TT are taking their slavish inspiration from the animation a bit too far for today's aesthetic sensibilities. I'd like my MP toys to be as realistic as possible in their vehicle modes, and to have tasteful color choices and schemes to make for a more aesthetically pleasing figure in both modes, regardless of the tacky 80's colorations. For those in the know, since these are really aimed at the Aisian market with no regard to the West, do the target audience share this viewpoint, or do they like the toon-accuracy as much as Takara would have us think? I'm genuinely curious. I wonder if any of them are complaining about TT's color choices, too. If so, there should be a petition.
  21. Correct on both counts. That said, the red bumper looks like poop. Both Delta and Ultra Magnuses are available on HLJ currently. I'm on the fence whether to get one of them. After my previous post, curiosity took me to Youtube for a UM review. Overall, the fig looks pretty solid to me. The buttflap doesn't bother me all that much; waist swivel would have been nice, but I could live without it; and the little gaps between the shin plates and the legs are a non-issue to me. The only two things I don't like are the limited shoulder articulation, which was, ironically, done far better on the leader class CW figure, and that terrible red bumper. So, since I have the UW Ultra Magnus, I'm starting to favor the idea of getting Delta Magnus, since I like his color scheme, mostly, and his lovely blue truck cab looks far better with all that chrome. Really wish those extending arms were silver, though, or at least had some other colored paint apps to break up all that stark black. My eyes are drawn to them, not in a good way. Nevertheless, I'll likely cave within the next 24 hrs and preorder some DM goodness. Also on HLJ, a few of the upcoming Titans Return figs/Headmasters are available for PO: Galvatron (which I PO'd without hesitation) , Hardhead, and Skull (big Crocodile headmaster). I'm assuming that Takara's Galvatron will benefit, as most of their releases do, from better paint apps than Hasbro's, plus his PO price is $35, about $5 less than domestic pricing at any retailer except TRU. I PW'd him and hopefully will get a better shipping deal. Hopefully.
  22. Delta Magnus would have looked better if the sliding arm bits had been done in the silver to match the legs, IMO. That black contrasts too much and just doesn't look right. These pics are starting to make me regret not getting MP UM, regardless of his flaws. He looks pretty sharp in that picture. Delta looks good, too, ecept for the aformentioned black bits. That blue paint job is lovely. And, for the love of God, who's questionable idea was it to put a red bumper on UM? I realize it's based off the G1 figure, but the 80's were often gaudy, as in this case, and good sense should override nostalgia. DM's truck mode looks amazing, and far more realistic with his chrome bumper.
  23. The Arcadia looks great by candlelight. just sayin'
  24. "Such heroic nonsense." Such a great line in a a great scene of pointless slaughter. There's a part of me that will never forgive Hasbro for this scene, or for killing Prime. Yet, UM was blasted to pieces, and just reassembled good-as-new. But yeah, MP Megatron is a must. Judging by MP Shockwave's legs, they've found a solution to bulk up the legs in bot mode, and hopefully that'll carry over. And, yep, the new Machine Robo/Gobots are pretty sweet, and hopefully they'll be reasonably priced when they finally get around to opening preorders. I'm thinking/hoping around $50. Less would be better, but considering these are kinda niche, plus production costs, I'm thinking the $50 range puts them comparably with most of the MP car-bots. I honestly don't know how popular MR is in Japan, so I welcome any correction to my assumption.
